Hello guys I'm planning to start rebuilding and was wondering if anyone can shed some knowledge and advice.

I'm currently using an Igo-W with a smok Magneto. So far i'm liking the double roller coaster build.

Can someone tell me what the differences between the kanthal gauges and silica sizes? What sizes do you recommend i use? I like something that would produce more vape production, not so much throat hit and not drain my battery, if possible?

I'm also thinking of using kanthal flat ribbon. Would this be better than regular kanthal? what size should i get?

Also, i'm a little fuzzy on how ohms work. Is the lower the better? What are the advantages or effects of having certain level ohms?

One last question, How do you know when you should rebuild? (I know some signs include, less vape production, loss in taste, burnt taste, but are there others like visible signs?).

Sorry for so many noob questions. Any help is appreciated, Thank you.

I think you are biting off more than you are ready to chew, ktran378. Just from the questions you are asking, you aren't ready to be using a rebuildable atomizer. But its GOOD that you are asking questions NOW and not later after getting into some trouble. You've got a lot of reading and research to do on your own just yet before you are ready to start rebuilding. A lot of watching You Tube videos to do, too.

The physical skill of wick and coil building is not that tough to learn, but there is so much critical information to know to be able to do the whole rebuildable thing safely.

My ECF buddies have already given you some good resourch information to get you started on the basics you are going to need to know with links to my blogs. Thanks guys. :) There's a lot of experienced RBA users in the Rebuildable Atomizer Systems sub-forum; you can post your own questions there once you have 5 posts.

Is this your first e-cigarette device? How experienced of a vapor are you?

You should already have a backup delivery device to use until you are able to get your mod and RDA set up and performing well. Do you already have a digital multimeter and know how to use it to measure your coil's resistance? What specifically are the batteries that you are using? (brand name, size, chemistry type, etc)

Good luck. :)

This is my third e-cigarette device, being my first mechanical. My first was an ego-twist and my second being an vw innokin itaste. I've been vaping for maybe a year and half. I've ordered a ohms meter but have not a multimeter. I've been using a AW IMR 18490.

Thank you for all the links. they're of much help :). I for sure won't attempt to do any building yet. My local vape shops have been doing rebuilds for me. I try to learn from them and ask many questions as i can.

This is helpful to know. What ohm coils are they building for you?

I actually had a rebuild at a new place today. She didn't check the ohms but she did a dual coil with 28GA kanthal 3/2 wraps.

WOW just...... WOW

I don't know how big are each coils but a 2 3 wrap of 28 gauge usually turns out to be between 0.7 and 0.5. Dual coil and you need to divide this number by 2.

a 0.25 ohm coil would draw about 16 amps from your battery...... I don't know of any 18490 that can deliver that safely.

No. No it can't. Don't use that coil on that battery.

Yeah.. it was really sketchy. It looked like she was new at it. When i walked in, i thought she was the store's model or vaptender but she said she'll do it. I was planning going back tomorrow and having someone else more qualified to do it

I wouldn't go back to that shop.... If you do, make sure that the idiot... I mean the nobel prize winner that builds your coil checks the resistance afterwards and that the resistance is above 0.6 (under your battery amp limit).

You need to learn how to use a multimeter, and to use Ohm's law and know how it relates to your battery maximum continuous discharge rate.

To expand on the safety: Your battery has a C-rating of 8. You multiply the c-rating by your amp-hours. 1100mah=1.1 ah. 1.1x8=8.8A. Your maximum safe amperage is 8.8. Let's round that down to 8. Your minimum resistance should be 0.5Ω. To make sure there are no errors, make that 0.7Ω. 3 wraps/4coils if 28g kanthal, around a 3/32 drill bit will come out at 0.8Ω. If someone tries to hand you anything less than that, tell them you are not comfortable with your battery's ability to safely push that, and request that, as a minimum.

That is very helpful, i will definitely keep that in mind and have them check.
