New to the e-cigs!

Hey all,

First off I want to say what great help this site has been just from reading the last few hours. It's definitely a lot to take in since I literally just heard about e-cigs only a few days ago

I currently live in Canada and I'm definitely confused about certain things for vapers in Canada (because of the no nicotine thing from health canada) I currently smoke analogs and I really want to make the switch, not just for me but I also want to help my parents quit smoking (and yes it will take some convincing). My main problem seems to be figuring out how nicotine fits in to all of this for Canadians. Now, from what I understand you have to buy liquid nicotine and do it yourself. This kind of brings up a couple more questions..

Is there any way to get around this?
and.. I haven't been able to find any sites that actually come out and say that they sell anything that really has to do with nicotine, so basically are there any??

I'm sure the answers to these questions are here, and I'm probably looking in all the wrong places. I really appreciate any help you guys can give me, and I also appreciate the community you have going on here. Very helpful, kind ect.. keep up the great community guys!

The E-cig situation in Canada is a little on the grim side. Health Canada has banned the sale and importation of E-liquids containing nicotine and have done for some time now. They'd rather nobody sold E-cigs or anything related to E-cigs either but there's no actual ban they are enforcing on the hardware. Yet. There are those working to change the E-cig landscape in Canada as we speak, but that's going to take some time yet.

In the mean time, there are indeed a few vendors across Canada who sell e-liquid with nicotine -- I mean, we're Canadians. We're polite, but we don't like being bullied. Once you get to 5 posts (and give it an hour or two for the forums to update your permissions) and join us in the Canada forum. You can request a list of Canadian vendors who sell e-liquid with nicotine and one of us will PM you with said list so you've got a great place to start.

I can also recommend Happy Vaper as a great vendor who deals in a lot of great hardware. His liquids do not contain nicotine but he's great to deal with for hardware.

Well, it really depends on what you really want out of an E-cig, but Happy Vaper has a few options that I'd definitely recommend as great places to start.

The Joye 510
The good ol' standby that got many a person started. If you prefer a less conspicuous cigarette-like profile, the 510 is a good place to start.
Pros: Slim, light, easy to pocket and gives a good vape when you need it; industry standard 510 connection means attachments you buy for it will work on the many other products that feature a 510 connection.
Cons: 180mAh battery life is rather short; average vape time of 2-4 hours depending on your vaping frequency; the cartridge/atomizer combination they come with is not the ideal way to vape.
Recommended accessories: Boge standard resistance cartomizers; extra batteries and/or personal charging case (PCC).

Bloog MaxxFusion
Much like the 510, the Bloog MaxxFusion is based on the KR808D-1 connection, another very common (though not as common) connection with a range of supported attachments. This is also a slim solution, so also easy to pocket and carry.
Pros: Slim, light, easy to pocket and also gives a good vape when you need it; longer battery life with standard 220mAh batteries, and longer batteries with more life (320mAh) are available. Auto or manual batteries available -- I recomend the 78mm manual batteries personally. Automatic batteries can be damaged by juice leakage. Comes with good cartomizers.
Cons: Battery life is better but still isn't an all-day vape.
Recommended accessories: PCC.

Both of the above kits are available in a range of starter kits that are as simple or comprehensive as you like.

Joye eGo
I think the vast majority of us here have at least one eGo kit in our arsenal. I have 6 myself. That's because they're workhorses. They are essentially the same thing as the 510, but with a much larger battery (650mAh) for much longer vape time between charges. They also have extended batteries of 1000mAh available that'll keep you vaping all day. Of course, such a large battery comes at the cost of form factor, as the eGo is a "fat batt" more resembling a cigar than a cigarette, but the extra battery life is worth it.
Pros: Long-lasting batteries; standard 510 connection plus the eGo connector give you access to a huge range of attachments.
Cons: Larger than a cigarette; come with the same 510 atomizer/cartridge combo as the original 510.
Recommended accessories: eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizers, and plenty of 'em. (Happy does not carry these yet unfortunately, but MadVapes has them for $2.50 a piece. Unfortunately they aren't shipping to Canada at the moment, but I'm sure there are others who carry them. Just not sure who exactly.)

I haven't tried Health Cabin, but I had some serious issues with GHO's liquids. Health-related issues. Not saying everyone will experience this, and this is not an indictment of GHO as a vendor (I've had no issues at all with ordering hardware from them) but I'm not the only one who has experienced such issues with GHO's juices.

Excellent choice. You really can't go wrong with an eGo, which is why most of us have them. I should also note as an an additional benefit to owning an eGo is that if and when you decide you want to try and get into the variable voltage arena, Happy also carries the eGo Booster, which gives your eGo a certain degree of variable voltage capabilities, which is also quite a nice capability. (I have a VV device myself, though not an eGo booster, but I do know once you go VV it's hard to go back. ) But that's something for later.

Another quick question, since I'm still a smoker, would you recommend that I wait to order this kit until I am able to get nicotine with it? Or should I order it right away and maybe see how it works?

Any time! Personally I would order some nic-based juices as you order your kit. I'll PM you with that list I talked about earlier and you can choose a local vendor and pick a few sample juices to try out. Happy ships pretty quickly, and I don't know where you are but it shouldn't take long to get it. (I'm local to him in the GTA so I generally get it the next business day after he ships.) As a recommendation I'd order small bottles each in the 12mg, 18mg and 24mg range so you can try a range of strengths and see which one satisfies you most.

They're rather crap. But they don't ship to Canada anyway. If you're looking for a slim cigarette-like PV, I'd go for the Volt instead. BestVapour here in Canada carries them.

Really? Blu must be shipping with blank or 0mg nic carts then -- either that or the owner imports them himself. The juice in the carts is the reason they wouldn't ship to Canada. Mind you the last time I checked them out was January of 2010 so my information may be out of date.

Blu are ... well, weak. As they come for US customers, they're filled with custom juices from Johnson Creek, which themselves are not bad. However, the battery is weak and the cartomizers don't produce much vapor, flavor or throat hit. And they're terribly overpriced. They're not much better frankly than the cheap E-cigs like HD Smoke you get at variety stores or gas stations here. They certainly taste better than cheap E-cigs since they get their juice from a known and reputable vendor, but that's about it. Totally not worth the money. You're better off getting a Volt, or even a Joye 510 if you really want a slim style PV.

I have never tried any e-cigs/vaping of any type yet. I am a Canadian also and actually heading down to Buffalo this weekend and was looking to try out some of the Blu Cig Disposables which are apparently being sold at some stores. Since I dont have any options right now, (If anyone knows) how long would 1 disposable last is it by each draw?
