I am new to the whole mechanical mod process. I used a few VV/VW devices, but decided to give RBA and mechanicals a shot. I built my first sub-ohm coil, and verified there were no shorts. I screwed it on and fired it with my Trustfire 18650 protected batteries. It fired for a second, and then shut down. Some Ultrafire 18650s I used for batteries (cheap deal extreme batteries) seemed to work ok, but I only used it a few times to check function. I was hesitant to use them because they don't have any kind of protection. What kind of batteries are you using, and what do you recommend. I am thinking my protection circuits shut down the batteries, as they work now in a 2 ohm coil.

Do not use normal li-ion battery like TrustFire or UltraFire whether it has a built-in PCB in a mechanical mod. You will not know if the built-in PCB is faulty. Some fake and cheap li-on 18650 battery has a crazy PCB that it is not cut off the current although the device draw over 5A. You can go to CandlePower forum to see the review of many kind 18650 batteries. These cheap batteries is just good if you use in a flashlight. You will need a high drain battery (5C) when you use a mechanical mod.

What about AW Li-Ion batteries like the AW 18650 3100mah? I ordered one but it hasn't arrived yet - are they safe to use in mechs or should I only use it in my ZMax?
