I am a smoker of 16 years and I recently bought the Nexus vaporesso. I used this most of the time now and only smoke a few cigarettes a day, but I noticed that vaping gives me shortness of breath. It seems to go away after a couple of hours without vaping but it is worrisome. I am not convinced that vaping is that much safer than cigarettes, I do it because it's easier to do anywhere and doesn't smell bad. Anyone experienced this?

Well your not inhaling tar or jet fuel or any other of the 5,000+ chemicals that are in cigarettes. We know what’s inside of ejuice.PG,VG, flavorings and nicotine(optional). As for shortness of breath, I’m not a doctor and don’t know what it could be but to say your not convinced it’s safer Is just false.

I smoked for 20 years, and can say for sure that after I made a full switch to vaping, my body tells me actively everyday that I am healthier now than I ever was smoking cigarettes. But I can only speak for myself, vaping can be worse for some people if they are sensitive or have reactions to any of the ingredients.

What nic level are you using?
What wattage are you vaping at?
What tank and coil are you using?
Have you tried multiple types of liquid at different nic and VG/PG ratios and flavors?
How much liquid do you go through per day?

Answering these questions can help us narrow down what could be the issue. Without info we can only take wild guesses.

how is it false to say im not convinced it is safer? that makes no sense. We are not doctors and I am not here to debate the safety of vaping. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing as I am, that is all.

I haven't experienced anything other than positive results from not using tobacco.
My platelets levels have returned to normal after being very low for about 5 years,I don't suffer from the lethargy I did because of it. I can run/walk further and faster for longer periods. I don't getc puffed or feel the tightness in my chest or the pounding of my heart after exercise.
Blood circulation is better, guy's, you know what I mean, right?
Another friend has had his lungs function go from 83% to 93% in 18 months of quitting tobacco and using a vape.
About all I can say is i became more aware of my body and how it feels when I quit tobacco.
I just worked on my vaping technique and educated my self about every aspect of vaping I could from gear and juice to research papers and results.
I am confident vaping the way I do is much safer than smoking the way I did for 42yrs

Let me retract the statement and rephrase. It MAY not be for your specific case but for the vast majority it is and by far. If you don’t want to look at look at the ingredients of vaping compared to cigarettes then look at the study’s that have been done, they are in favor of vaping. I’m sorry if I came across as being rude. It’s just I see multiple posts where people bash vaping(not saying you are) because of 1 or 2 symptoms. While a majority of the time they have had far more negative symptoms from smoking. Is vaping GOOD for you? No. Is it a safer alternative? Absolutely. I would allow time for your body to adjust. Hope you don’t give up vaping because of this.

It's probably the VG that's causing your symptoms. 75% is on the high side for VG.

VG is very viscous so it probably coats the lungs more than PG.

I had to experiment with different ratios when I graduated to better equipment. I settled on 60/40 VG/PG. Higher VG caused "heavy lung" for me. High PG caused dry mucous membranes.

I now vape 70/30 VG/PG without much problem although I do cough up phlegm. I think that's from the VG. It doesn't bother me much.

Your body may adjust to the VG after awhile like mine did.

If you just switched... odds are that your are still in full withdrawals from all the poisons from the cigarettes.

Also, your lungs have not cleared up yet, and that can take a few months. Expect that as they heal and the gunk that's built up as the lung tissue is being cleared away, you can have a lot of "side effects".

I can't answer all of those questions because I don't know enough about vaping yet, I am using 3 mg liquid but it was fairly weak so I put a couple of Nic packs in it 10%.

I probably go through I suggest 2 ML a day. maybe it will pass once i get used to it.

As this is a fairly small device, the output shouldn't enough to provide the amount of vapour that would "fill/coat" your lungs with VG as a full size tank would... but then, you might be be sensitize to the VG/PG or just the flavouring that is in your liquid.

But that you added more nicotine to it, I'd wonder if it may be a case that you overdid it a bit as "a couple of packs" could make it much stronger than it should be. Nicotine can increase blood pressure, so that could be a factor.

We don't need to be doctors... doctors and scientists HAVE proven that it IS safer, there have been so many tests done, we have read the reports, seen the facts. So yes, your statement is simply false. You may feel unsure as you haven't looked into it as deeply as some of us has. And you may feel anxious when vaping, but between 10+ years of testing, a lot of it tried to prove that it was bad/unsafe and it failed every time. If you're not debating it, then consider your statement. You might not be convinced, but the facts are that it is.

When I first began vaping again I would occasionally experience some shorness of breath. However it rarely lasted more than about 5-10 minutes. From what I can tell it mostly corrilated to using high nic/PG juices. After increasing the amount of VG in my juce it has been mostly remedied. It may also take a while for your body to accept vaping rather than smoking. After switching I had issues breathing and coughing but it subsided quickly. Allot of the wierdness accosiated with switching to vaping is acctualy your body ridding is self of all the sh** in your lungs from smoking. There is also a possiblity you are sensitive to PG or one of the flavoring compounds in you juice.

Of course, we are not medical docs so any problems should be checked out by a doctor. From my experience, certain ingredients - mainly the PG and certain flavorings cause some type of reaction for me which includes a little shortness of breath and my throat closes so I now avoid those irritants. So you could have an allergy or sensitivity but any issues should be brought to the attention of a doctor. Three or 4 ingredients in vaping versus oodles in analog cigarettes lend much credence that vaping is much safer but only you can decide that.

Hard to offer theories although you have received some:
Could be leftover crud exiting your lungs from smoking
You could be sensitive to one (or more) ingredients. I never experienced shortness of breath but I am PG sensitive and it was like vaping pins and needles. Also cannot vape vanillas for some reason they make me hoarse.
There are reports of folks using high VG getting either phlegm or shortness of breath from too high VG.
You changed your nic from 3 to 10 that might have an effect. You may be getting nic overload. Was it happening at 3 mg?

I don't really want to give advice at this point so I am just sharing my experiences. I still sometimes have congestion in my lungs if I vape too much, but that has decreased since I have found an alternative to PG. It may be worth experimenting with your eliquids in a sort of systematic fashion to see if anything helps.

If nothing helps, see your doctor. My doctor (who vapes) was helpful to me in figuring out I might have a PG allergy, for example. Not all docs are so helpful w/r/t vaping but you may have something else (entirely unrelated) going on in which case you'd want to rule that out, I'd think.

Best of luck, I hope you get it figured out. Vaping is safer than smoking for the vast majority of folks, some folks need some tweaking to get to that place.

Good luck,

Anna

I had a bit of a think about your post and remembered a couple of incidences where I did feel congested and tight in the chest and throat.
When I first stopped smoking and just vaped instead of doing both I found myself dragging really hard on the vape. If i was smoking I wouldve gut dragged the cig to death.
I went through the coils pretty quick and also used quite a bit more juice than I had been while still smoking as well as vaping.
I do remember waking up for a few days feeling like crap, congested and full of flem.
I think rather than concentrating on my vaping technique I was trying to get or was looking for that instant nic hit like I would from a cigarette, kinda lost my way a bit.
I upped the nicotine level and made a conscious effort to take more relaxed puffs and less of them.
I do remember that time as a bit of a struggle and frustrating, the novelty of vaping had worn off, I was missing tobacco and cigarettes, my gear didnt feel right and the coils kept burning out, I couldnt taste my juice(vapers tongue), vaping seemed stupid.
I got passed it and even 6mths later I am still tweaking my vaping experience.
Im cool with it taking time, the first cigarettes I smoked were crap and it took me a while to find the brand of tobacco I liked, the best papers and then filters I liked. I worked on my cigarette smoking technique to get it right so I figure I should expect a similar period of time getting my vaping techniques and gear and juice preferences right.
Hope you stick with it or find a way that works for you to not use tobacco.
Cheers

Vaping is safer, try not to listen to the nay-sayers... please. The most eminent body of UK scientists working on health consider it at least 95% safer.

Sure... in the early days shortness of breath and a certain unpleasantness is normal.

It took me a year to get to 10 watts of power and 5 years to get to 50 watts of power. It's all a question of acclimatization - vapor particles are not the same a smoke... we forget this, often.... it takes a while for a smoker to get used to smoke...

You'll be OK. I've been vaping 5 years. My lungs are good, I do not cough anything at all, I am healthier and wealthier. It's not rocket science.

Trust me... you started on something way more powerful than most of us long-term vapers. You are going to be OK. really... xxx
