Hey everyone, my name's Mike and obviously new to the forums :)

I came to the forums because I want to stop smoking and start vaping. I have been smoking for more than 6 years now and I have been trying to stop for the last 2 years because I have a wife and 2 kids now. I learned about vaping through one of my cousins who used to smoke as much as me but has then stopped ever since he picked up his mod.

Does anyone have any tips as to what a good starting mod would be? My cousin told me to get the Galileo V3 but I can't seem to find it anywhere here in the U.S. If anyone knows where I can get a hold of this mod, please let me know.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Just my opinion:

When someone new to vaping wants to jump straight into a mechanical, I usually recommend they start out with a battery regulator that can be dropped into the MOD, and a quality IMR high drain battery.

The Evolv Kick and Artisan Crown are two fine examples.

The reason for the recommendation...
1. Battery safety. There is a bit of a learning curve for battery choice and care when going with a mechanical mod. Until you've had some time to read up the batteries and get a feel for when to change/charge them, it's good to have the piece of mind that a regulator can offer. These regulators will give short circuit, over-drain, and thermal protection.

2. Consistency of power. Such regulators will buck/boost the battery voltage for a consistent hit, from the first to last drag of a battery's charge cycle. When it's time to change the battery, they simply stop working.

3. As you try different types of heads/atomizers/cartomizers, in combination with different flavors/mixes of liquids...you'll find the adjustable nature of the regulator a handy feature.

In time you may well find that some beefy hand built RDA topper where YOU personally build a coil with the heat/air flow of your choice allows you to 'drop' the regulator and vape straight off the battery; however, as a new comer to vaping...you've got some experimenting and stuff to try yet.

So, if you jump right into an APV, and are set on the mechanical style...I'd give a Kick or Crown strong consideration.

If the MOD you like does NOT come with a 'Kick extension of some type', be aware you'll need 18490/18500/18350 batteries instead of 18650, as the regulator adds a bit of length to the battery.

For off the shelf screw it in and vape stuff:
Drippers:
You can't go wrong with a 510 or 306 dripping atty. All the brands I've tried are 'good' (but with life-spans all over the map...some lasted days...some weeks), and the Cisco spec stuff (Ikenvape, Avidvape are EXCELLENT but pricy...the few I've tried lasted for weeks, not days).

Cartomizers:
Boge is always a consistent favorite.
Smoktech makes a good Dual Coil carto.
Either of these can be found pre-punched and fitted into tanks.

I love a good carto in a tank...superb vape, but for me, these are the more expensive route, they have to be changed/replaced after a couple of days (the draw gets really tight even tho' the coil itself is working fine).

Clearomizer class (tho you can find some that aren't 'clear')
Top Coil type: Vivi Nova. Comes in a variety of sizes/capacities. Really easy to use!
Bottom Coil type: Pro Tanks, Evods, etc. All good for the money, and easy to use.
Which size/type/brand you might like best (top/bottom/size/etc) is subjective, and the only way to find out is to order small quantities and try them. Both types can use pre-built replaceable heads or use heads/wicks rebuilt by yourself.

Top Coil clearos with 2 Ohm or higher coils at low power are a personal favorite. Note, I'm a mouth hitter (all day pacifier type vaping with higher nic liquids), not a lung hitter (clouds of lower nic straight to the lung hits)...so you might like something quite different from me.

For rebuildable stuff:
There are dozens if not hundreds of choices out right now!
So far I've personally only tried the following.

KayFun style tanks are easy to build and work really well. I grabbed a pair of 3.1 clones to test out the platform and find them easy to build, and they perform quite well. They are very versatile (air flow and coil/wick choices). They can also be quite large/heavy.

I grabbed an IGO-W as my first RBA. It's easy to build single, dual, or quad coils in, isn't very expensive, and the quality is good. It's also on the heavy side. Only thing I wish it had was adjustable air flow...as it is, you take a tight draw or drill it out yourself. I'm happy with it for the price though.

As you are new, you might want to try a variety of things early on.
I.E.
1 Top coil type (Vivi Nova)
1 Bottom Coil type (Kanger ProTank)
1 510 Dripping atty (for quick easy juice tasting/testing without filling up an entire tank/carto)
1 Box of standard Boge cartomizers.
Possibly an inexpensive rebuildable atomizer to tinker with.

Don't think you have to get it all at once....but do try some different stuff as you go :)

Liquids are the more important part...as well as the more expensive thing to find early on. Put a liquid you don't like in a $500 set-up, and you still will not like it :) In contrast, you can put a good liquid that you do like in a tiny generic KR808 e-cig and still enjoy it.
