So, I just ordered 2 Volt batteries, some carts, liquids, and clearos from smokelessimage.com. My wife intends to quit smoking using these ecigs but still go cold turkey on the nicotine. I did get some tobacco flavoured carts and juice to help her out. As an ex smoker and toker myself, I see the appeal of vaping, so I also ordered some nicotine-free flavours to try for myself. I could see myself getting a little more into vaping as time goes on.

I'm hoping to get some tips to help my wife quit smoking and, perhaps, some suggestions for an inexpensive battery upgrade.

Can you recommend any brands/flavors that actually taste like cigarettes?

Chasing the flavor of your brand of cigarettes can be very frustrating. I found one that reminds me of camel from a local vender, but I'm sure it wouldn't suit someone who is smoking camels now.
My recommendation is to pick flavors that sound appealing to you (fruits, deserts, flavored tobaccos, etc) but don't drive your self crazy looking for the flavor of your brand. Besides, half of the advantage to vaping is not always smelling like cigarettes! :) There are some great tobacco flavors out there that taste like some pipe tobacco smells (never smoked pipe tobacco). Also some good cigar flavors. I stuck to tobaccos my first 6 months, but now I'm mostly a mint vapor (wasn't a big menthol fan when I was a smoker, but a few times I quit Altoids where my replacement for cigarettes... obviously it didn't work too well... the few times I quit... lol)
Your best bet is to go sampling at local shops, provided there are any in your area.

better battery?
The best for new vapors (IMO) is an iStick (I think the 30w are out which the build quality has improved from the 20w) or the MVP20w. Both are great powerful "Advanced Personal Vaporizers" (APVs) that will make your vaping much more enjoyable. Most that upgrade from Ego agree that there is a night and day difference (for the better) between Egos and APVs. It is a big bigger of a device and doesn't resemble any tobacco products (ego's remind me of a long skinny cigar). Generally they last most users all day, and you can vape while you charge if the battery gets low. They accept android phone charge cables so you can just use your cellphone charger to charge it (less cables running around if you have android devices, and great that you can top off the charge in the car or at the computer).
A nautilus tank is a highly regarded tank as well, but be sure and get the BVC coils for it, which is really what makes it shine. It does well on the 20w box mods, though some like to push it slightly above 20w, so the 30w may make sense.
Check youtube for reviews on products before you buy. It will show you the ins and outs, and give you some opinions on what experienced users like/dislike about the products.
101vape is usually my goto site because they have some of the best prices and ship from the US.

I'm his wife, and I think you're right. I may need the nicotine cartos.

I recently got a couple of Volts for my MIL and got blank cartridges for them. I bought Premium Cigarette juice from Vape Wild to fill them and she loves it. I kinda like em myself. That's the easiest and least expensive way I've found to do cig a likes and the flavors they have are great. If you pm me your email, I can have them send you a coupon and I too benefit by getting 1000 points if you decide to purchase. Regardless I recommend their Tobacco flavors over all I have tried or diy'ed.
Tobacco - Cigarette Type E-Liquid - Vape Wild These flavors have helped my wife and her mother.

dude, from what i experienced and saw from people around me, you cannot cut nicotine intake level to 0 immediately if your body is used with intaking nicotine..
Kinda need to lower the intake gradually i suppose? Just purely my piece of mind, not sure if it works.

Hi, Essay Butler, and welcome to ECF.

Personally, if the budget allows, I would get your wife a couple of different nicotine levels, and let her decide which helps the cravings better. My daughter and I quit smoking cold turkey around 8 (almost 9) years ago, but the cravings were still there. Around 2 (almost 3) years ago, the cravings got really intense, and smoking was starting to sound really tempting. After hemming and hawing for a couple of months after starting to research ecigarettes, my daughter picked up a couple of disposables to see if they would qwell the cravings. Much to my surprise, they worked, and we are very happy that vaping has helped us to continue to be ex-smokers. My daughter vapes at 18 mg nicotine, and I have cut down a bit to 12 mg nicotine. The really nice thing about vaping is that you can tailor your nicotine levels to your personal preference. Whatever keeps you away from smoking is the "correct" level for you.

Good luck to both of you. ECF is a great place to come to for research, or just if you need someone to talk to. There are no dumb questions. We are all here to help each other, and this is a great, caring, community.

Hello and welcome to ECF!

As others have said, I'm just going to chime in to support the recommendation of getting a little nicotine. No need to be bashful with the nic, it's there as a tool for you to use - I say take advantage of that.

As for matching the taste of a real cig, I too went down that path for my first SEVERAL months of vaping. I don't even want to say how many different "tobacco" flavors I bought - they all tasted either a) like nothing, or b) nothing like a cigarette. A guy at one local vape shop patiently explained to me about how there's nothing that can really simulate the flavor of burning paper, leaves, etc. As I learned, "tobacco" means more like it tastes how a fresh pack of cigarettes smells... if that makes sense? Personally, as far as tobaccos go, I like Mt. Baker Vapor's "East Coast Tobacco," but it has a lot of taste of nuts and spice to me, sort of like vaping a walk through the Adirondacks. I ended up shifting gears and fell in love with dessert flavors, and now can't get enough of the fruity stuff.

If you body demands that smokey flavor, somebody on another thread suggested this one:

Dirty Ashtray - eLiquid Flavor - ECBlend

I haven't tried it myself, but she said a few drops of that mixed in to another liquid tastes remarkably like a cigarette. Don't think I'm brave enough to give it a try myself though, so I can't speak myself to how it tastes.

Good luck to you both & enjoy!

Hi, and Welcome to ECF!
You can give the "Cold Turkey" route a chance with the no nicotine juice , but much like trying to quit cold turkey in general, it's usually not too successful.
I wouldn't be too concerned about the nicotine in your juice at this stage, after all... it's not technically the nicotine that is causing the damage in smoking. Nicotine is the "Hook" in tobacco, its what keeps us coming back... but it's all the carcinogens, chemicals and tar in the tobacco that is the real enemy. The evidence so far shows if you can cut out all the "other" chemicals in smoking, the nicotine alone isn't much more addictive as caffeine... and about as harmless as well!
Nicotine is also the only stimulant that has a calming effect and increases memory and concentration when used right... and who doesn't want to remain calm and focused at a time like this!?!
You cut out all the carbon monoxide, arsenic, tobacco-specific nitrosamines and the hundreds, even thousands of chemicals that all work together to keep you hooked and ruining your health and you already won... worry about getting off the nicotine later!

Oh, and there is also this...
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-liquid-discussion/230570-wta-e-liquid-issues.html
it's a bit of a read, but it's something to consider for the really tough times!

Good luck and enjoy the journey!

A good starting point would be The ISTICK 30 watt with the Aspire mini 1.6 ohm BVC.

If you could visit a vape shop to sample from the hundreds of flavors would be her best bet on the flavors.....
+1 on the tribeca and you might try bobas bounty.A good starting point for nic would be 18 mg if you smoke a pack a day.....

I agree cold turkey would be much more difficult. Even switching isn't very smooth for most, you still have withdrawals from all the other stuff in cigarettes your body is used to getting. most people seem to wean off cigarettes and switch to vaping over a few days or a month. Some do the switch immediately, but I'd say a time of dual use seems to be much more common. If you wanted to be off nicotine all together I'd say the best way to do it would be kick the cigarettes with a higher nicotine (12-24mg depending on what you find satisfying), then when you feel comfortable again (no more cigarette withdrawals) cut your nic level in half. When that feels comfortable cut it in half again. so on and so forth until you are down to 3mg, then cut it out completely. I guess its the difference of minor discomfort for an extended period of time vs serious discomfort and irritability for a shorter period of time (its a good idea to warn loved ones when backing off the stimulants...)

I DO love bobas bounty from AVEJuice.com... but it seems to be hit or miss for a lot of people - either they love it or they don't. I guess that's any juice though.. you just hear it more about bobas because everyone raves about it :) Also, I don't get a ton of tobacco from it, that's why I didn't mention it... It's good, but it doesn't remind me of tobacco.
