vaping just worked for me as well. I know some have really struggled but fortunately I really had no ill effects. I did not dual use - went straight from 2 to 3 packs per day to 100% vaping. I was one of "those people" that nearly always had a cigarette in hand and was a heavy smoker since I was a pre-teen. If I did not have a cigarette for any length of time I was a real witch! I started out with way high nic which I now see was a good move. I also think a large part of it was that I really wanted to stop and was very determined. I know I would not even have tried to quit analogs if it was not for vaping.

I use low nic now and eventually plan on working toward 0.

I LOVE vaping!

In the interests of full disclosure I should note that I’ve gone back to smoking once or twice since I started vaping. This is mostly because I am an idiot in certain respects. But I have mostly vaped since late 2011 or so, so I consider it a win even given the occasional back-slide.

I will say that I think motivation an important thing. When I started vaping in late 2011 the equipment sucked, the juice sucked, the whole experience sucked. But I was motivated. I had just watched my mother die, far earlier than she should have, of lung cancer. It wasn’t pretty.

How easily we forget though, after a few years. I’m still tempted by cigarettes, but when I am I dredge up those memories, memories I’d otherwise prefer to bury. We all have to die somehow, but I’d rather not go out like that.

Wow - you still are tempted. I am not which I actually find pretty amazing when I think about it. Sorry about your Mom. Must have been very difficult to watch her suffer. Two times over 6 + years - towards the beginning - I either ran out of juice or battery and bought a pack of cigs. Smoked a few and gave them away or trashed them. I have not had a a cig or even a craving in years. I can smell a cig when someone else is smoking - especially when they first light it - I can even tell if it is regular or menthol but that's it --I do not really give it a thought and I do not care if people smoke around me. I carry a bunch of batteries and I always have a 30ml of juice in my purse and an extra coil so I guess that is my way of not letting temptation creep in.

You are doing great if you are mostly vaping and I wish you much success getting to the 100% consistently.

I love vaping, but I don’t think it will ever fully replace smoking for me. I started smoking when I was 12, so having a cigarette in my hand is just... inextricably a part of my self-image. 30 years of smoking will do that to you, and in a way that sort of thing is harder to break away from than a simple physical addiction.

That said, vaping has allowed me to go years without a cigarette, and my regressions to smoking have in general been brief. I do not expect that I will regress again. I only did because... well, as I said, I can be a bit of an idiot.

I just watched idiocracy today, I enjoy it. It’s one of those movies that gets better the more you see it. Office space was like that for me too. Napoleon dynamite is another, it takes several viewings to appreciate the ridiculousness of those movies and it grows on me. As for Facebook, I don’t partake. I’m too busy watching fine cinema. The big Lebowski is another that I appreciate more the more I see it. Does that answer the OP’s question?

Gentlemen Broncos is a multiple must see as well. Sam Rockwell and Jemaine Clement were hilarious in it!

I'm with you @chellie . Aside from one time when I was left with no charged battery, I've not smoked a cigarette since I officially quit 6 years ago. I never really smoked that pack of cigarettes that I smoked - I got nauseous with the first one and through the pack away.

An important coincidence in my particular situation was my mother died of cancer a couple weeks after I purchased my first e-cigarette. I feared that I would follow her to the grave if using e-cigarettes didn't work, so I was determined to make them work for me.

@Baditude we both quit at around the same time :). Many ppl I communicate with that were former smokers and now vape say they have had cravings so you and I might be in the minority. It does surprise me based on how much I smoked. I truly am not interested in an analog. I am OK with the smell of it - just do not like smoke being blown in my face, but I did not like that even when I smoked --and even as a vaper I am very courteous to others around me.

Sorry about your Mom. It must be awful to watch someone suffer like that. I can see where that would definitely motivate you never to smoke another analog.

My Dad smoked cigarettes from when he has very young. And I followed suit. I used to "steal" cigs from his pack when I was 10 and smoking regularly when I was 11 but did not smoke in front of him until I was 18. He quit at age 45. Even when he smoked he was in fantastic shape. He exercised, was very muscular, ate right etc. He had no health problems whatsoever. Perfect health. 10 years after quitting he died instantly of a massive heart attack at age 55. When he would hear of someone that beat all odds - like a guy fell off a building and did not have a scratch he would say "It wasn't his time"

Congrats on 6 years. It's a great feeling!

A little bit of un update for who's intrested
Mooved to 4.5 mg from 6mg cause i felt 6 mg turned to be a bit harsh for me
Now i smoke still 2.5 ml tand a day, taking as many puffs as i need but only once a hour
When i go outside with friends who smoke i dont even bother getting the e cig with me and i feel no craving for a cigarrete ( not taking it with me so i dont chain vape )
When i smoke weed i can go 3-4 hours without any puffs and then come home and chain vape even 0mg liquid and i couldnt care less
