Hello! I'm new to the world of vaping and I can see myself getting sucked in quickly lol.

Little back story on myself. The entire reason this came into my life is my fiance. She is a cigarette smoker and I really wanted her to quit. She said if I got her an e-cig she would give it a shot. This got me really motivated so I started doing some research. Fast forward to last weekend. We were at a friends wedding and someone was smoking an EGO Twist with a Vivi Nova tank. Needless to say I asked them if she could try it. We're good friends so they obliged. She LOVED it!!

Before we left town we stopped by the store he recommended and I got her an EGO-CE4 starter kit that came with 2 batts and 2 Stardust tanks (I think that's the nickname for them), we also picked up 30ml of her favorite flavor and 10ml of one I liked. Well, low and behold I now carry one of them myself everyday lol! She seems to be perfectly fine with this setup for now and is slowly starting to come off cigarettes.

I am a former cigarette smoker (quit 6 years ago) and current cigar aficionado. I can see this hobby taking off for me and her and decided to join this forum to start learning as much as I can!

So far I know I want to get myself and EGO Twist and a Kanger Pro Tank. The Stardust is great but, after watching a ton of GrimmGreen's Youtube videos I know I want more! Any info or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Here is my current setup:

welcome and congrats on your success. And yes I second job would help lol, you CAN save money vaping as long as you don't have to try every new thing that comes out. I'd reccomend looking into a 18650 battery mod, I upgraded to one fairly fast after the ego. These batts will easily last me a day and half on one charge. The silver bullet is a good one, I have 2 of them. Also maybe look into rebuildables if ya like to tinker around. Good luck on your journey

If size doesn't matter (insert jokes here) I would recommend the Vamo - set the wattage and it sets the voltage for what ever device you attach to it - I really like mine but it is rather large with the 18650 battery in it

Protank and Twist work good but it is top heavy (and Protank is glass - get where I am going with this?)

but this is my opinion (remember, vaping is like a box of chocolates - sorry, just watched forest gump again last night :) )

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm just starting so any recommendation or opinion shared is great in my book.

I don't know that I'm ready to step up to the mod level just yet. I also like the form factor of the "EGO" style batteries. I had not thought about the weight of the Kanger actually. I liked the look of it mostly lol. Are the Vivi Nova's good tanks?

I have looked into a cartomizer setup but, those seem a little more advanced than me right now.

Welcome to ECF, and to the slippery slope known as vaping :D Seriously, though, I think it's awesome your GF loved it and that she is on her way to putting down the stinkies for good. I am happy with my Ego Twist/Kanger T3 setup, but can certainly relate to that "kid in a candy store" feeling! I think my next step will be a Vamo . . . .

Cheers, and happy vaping :toast::vapor:

Hey-o, welcome to the world of vaping. What part of TN/GA are ya? I'm close to Savannah myself. I've just started about a month ago myself and have tried a few of the toys out there. My current set up is an eGo C-Twist (650 mah) variable voltage battery, which lasts me just about all day (I ordered a back up batty that is en route to switch out). I have tried the basic cartridges, 510T Tanks, KR 510 Clearomizer 1.8 ohm resistance, a couple Kanger T3 clearos, and a Kanger Protank. The Protank has been my favorite so far, but mine just broke with a mouth piece that popped off the glass (I had a thread on this earlier), but backups are en route.

Bottom line is I really liked the Protank and 650 mah battery set up. It's compact enough so I don't feel like I'm waving around a magic wand like Harry Potter. The Protank seemed to give me the most consistent vaping with flavor and throat hit and far less leakage.

Here's what I found with the other set ups:
Cartridges: pain the rump to constantly drip to refill...can get messy.
510T Tanks: Atomizers are expensive and don't take to changing flavors very well.
KR 510 Clearomizer 1.8 ohm resistance: The mouth piece gets too hot for me, and condensation build up is annoying.
Kanger T3 Clearos: Watch what flavors you have in there...there are a number of flavors that will kill the tank. I've gone through two of them already.

If you like the eGo form factor, stick with it for now. You could upgrade to a twist or spinner and still keep the size, but it will give you a little introduction to variable voltage.

As for delivery systems, I don't like the large tanks on the smaller batteries. Here is what I use on my eGos:

Kanger T3 - it's a bottom coil with an airy draw and cooler vape

iClear 16 - it's a dual top coil with a stiffer draw and warmer vape

I prefer the iClear 16 because I like the warmer vape and it feels more like taking a hit off an analog. The T3 is nice, but I feel like I have to double hit it and feels like I am trying to suck second hand smoke through a straw. You may like the airy draw on the T3. I would suggest getting one of each, put your favorite juice in both, and see which you prefer.

I know this slippery slope all to well from the cigar world lol. Luckily my fiance is also a master with our budget so I don't have to worry about spending too much at once (or so I say now)

Hippiangst - I'm in the Chattanooga, TN/North, GA area. I work in TN and live in GA lol. Thanks for that detailed list of what you're tried so far. Do you feel like the Kanger is too top heavy compared to the others you've tried? How often are you replacing the cartridge?

This may seem like a silly question but, what is a Drip tip? Are these just different mouthpieces or do you use them with atomizers only? Also, I haven't been able to find a lot of info on the juice. I might not be looking in the right place honestly.

Right now I think we are vaping with 18mg nicotine and for me that "throat hit" is a little much. Is there a good resource on here to learn about juice and sources to get more. There are no Brick and Mortar vape stores in my area.

There is a juice forum, but you need 2 more posts to get to it.

Basically, the nicotine level and PG level in the juice produces the throat hit. Being a cigar smoker, you don't even have to inhale. Most nicotine absorption is done in the mouth.

The website I get my juice from is ecblend.com. You can create your own flavors, change the nicotine level, and change the PG/VG ratio. There are many that allow you to do this, that's just the site I use.

Edit - forgot about the drip tip. A drip tip is the part you suck on. Most clearomizers don't allow you to replace it. You find them mostly on cartotanks. This is just the most common. Some clearos do have changeable tips, but mostly it's for cartos.

That is great news! I'm so used to not inhaling that inhaling the vape feels awkward at times lol. I will try to use it more like a cigar.

Thanks, for the link! I will be checking that out.

Would you say that the carto would be the next step? I am really intrigued by them but from what I can tell most of them need modifications to work better. Slots vs holes....it's a lot of info lol

Cartos are not necessarily the next step, just a different step. The only mod that a carto would need is punching a hole in it, but they sell tools for that. There are so many options for tanks, some are easier to fill, some use specific cartos.

Then there are rebuildables. Those would probably be the pinnacle.

Get that last post in and you will have access to a wealth of knowledge. In about a week, you will know so much, you'll be giving advice.

I am new to all of this too, and in my short amount of time I have tried several different heads. I really like the Protank the best so far. I am using an ego twist as well and so far so good. This vaping business seems like a dangerous world. It is kind of hard to brag about how much money I am saving not smoking analogs, when I am dropping a ton of dough on trying new toys/juices.. :) Anyways, I am from GA as well, but live closer to the city. Most of my family live in Ellijay and Jasper.

I love driving out to Elijay! It's so pretty this time of year.

Don't inhale. I'm a ex cigar smoker and don't inhale. I just take a big hit and hold it in my mouth. I'm in the metro Atl area. Got married in Chattanooga. Going on 18 years. We go back every few years for our anniversary.

I tried this method the rest of the day yesterday and it worked great. Felt completely natural and didn't hurt my throat.

I have a question, as I said the kit we got came with 2 ego battys and 2 stardusts. They are both 2.4ohms but one of them hits a lot harder! Could it just be that the voltage is outputing higher on one of the battys?

Fox06WRX,

Yes, the Protank can be top heavy, but I don't mind it. Throat hit, from what I understand and correct me folks if I'm off base here, can be based on a number of factors: flavor of juice, type of carto / clearo / cartridge, voltage of battery, resistance of atomizer, etc. For example, lower resistance in the atty means more heat; thus, the throat hit might be harsher depending on the flavor or type of juice. Of course the spicier flavors like cola hit my throat a bit harsher than the sweet flavors. I have found from experience and read in reviews that bottom coil systems tend to have cooler throat hits. The Protank is a bottom coil system. It's also a bit airy with the throat hit as well, which cools things down as well.

Anyway, long story short... there's a lot of things out there, and it just depends on how much you want to spend on your toys and how much experimenting or research you want to do to find what you want.

Drip tip is the mouth piece for a cartomizer.

Oh nice! Thanks for the info. I actually live in Chickamauga so I'm familiar with Rock Springs. I had no idea vaping was so popular here honestly. I'm glad to hear there is a good scene in the area!
