Thanks for the tips! Those all seem like very popular RTAs. Would you be able to give me the quick run down on them? Which ones I should purchase and why? They seem to be quite different from each other. I realize I am asking a lot, but the options for all of this stuff is a bit overwhelming.

Kayfun is almost exactly like building the RBA in the Subtank mini. One coil held down by s screw on either side of the coil. The airflow comes in from the side and comes up directly under the airflow.

This has good flavor better than you use now. The downside is very limited airflow.

The Orchid has room for two coils. The Orchid is called the Kayfun killer because it has a single piece chimney and has a lot more airflow and better airflow. Since it has 3-4 times as much airflow than the Kayfun I can do lung hits with it.

The Goblin Mini and Silverplay Nano are the best flavor RTAs I ever used. They get airflow direct under the coils. So if you do not wick them correctly they will leak on your mod.

Both of them are built for dual coil but the GMini comes with a silicone plug go close one side.

I have used both the Orchid and Silverplay with single coil by packing cotton into the two unused juice wells without the RTA flooding. I have the chimney almost on and tsmp cotton in the wells with a toothpick then screw the chimney down the rest of the way to hold the cotton plugs in place.

Would recommend you start with a Kayfun or Orchid because they are not as temperamental as the Silverplay of Goblin, and they are much easier to wick.

Cur the wick so it rests on top of the juice wells and you're GOLDEN. To keep the Silverplay and Goblin from leaking the tails need to go to the bottom of the juice wells.

Just to fill everyone in on my progress. I have been vaping for 4 weeks now and cigarette free for 3. I have learned a ton and am enjoying everything so far.

This week I took the plunge into rebuilding. For anyone out there that is intimated by this, don't be!!! It is easier than I expected and my Subox vapes better than it did with the premade coils.

I built a 1.2ohm coil with 28g kanthal that I wrapped around the blue screwdriver. It vapes great! I haven't gotten a dry hit yet, but when I do, it will only take a few minutes to rewick. This will also save a bunch of money because the occ coils were only lasting 4days.

Awesome, you got into building pretty fast there!

Since I have been smoking my entire adult life, everything has always included cigarettes - having a cigarette in the morning with coffee, after a meal, taking a break from the desk at work, road trips, drinking. I could go on and on. That whole routine has seemed insurmountable to change.
Welcome to the forum :)
I'm a new member also, and recently started vaping about 2 weeks ago after smoking around 15 cigarettes a day for about 10 years. This is a really great place to get support and also ask all the questions you like.
Good luck!!!

@jjatl - About this you asked earlier: "Thanks for the link! Is this a reputable site? I do not see them in the Forums list of suppliers."

Yes, VaporEngine.com is great to deal with! I've placed about $400 worth of orders from them, since the new owners bought it. Everything comes exactly as shown/described on the website and very quickly after I order it. Never had a problem at all, and have received prompt attention when I call with a question or 2 about a mod or something I'm not familiar with.

Congrats on the rebuilding. We are contemplating some diy juice, but are still trying to learn as much as we can before we begin.

I am a bit concerned over the media frenzy about the "popcorn lung" and such. I know some of you that posted on here have been here for awhile, and some are new members. I would love to hear your perspectives. I do not want to smoke anymore, and vaping has been great so far.

I am not so naïve that I think vaping is "safe", but I believe it's a much safer alternative than cigarettes (of which I'm now down to 2 a day).

If we would decide to diy juice, is that really any safer than buying from a place that has posted their test results? From what I am reading, much focus is on the type of flavorings used, and if the company has had them tested or not.

Any insights you would share would be most appreciated. This community is a great place and I admire the folks here that have quit smoking. I will join that rank one day soon! In the meantime, I don't want to fall into the media trap, but also want to be as safe and informed as possible.
Thanks everyone!

I pretty much got into rebuilding possibly as fast as you did, and I never went back to the OCCs. It's just so much nicer to feel that you're responsible for the performance of your kit!

As long as I am able to build and wick my coils I will never use another premade coil.

OH GOD YEAH.

When you make the ejuice yourself only buy flavors and nic from suppliers that sell quality products.

Also in the VG and PG only get USP or kosher grades..

USP -United States Pharmaceutical grade
Kosher is a little better than USP. My VG is USP, and my PG is Kosher 99.7% pure.

Don't use food grade at all except for when you don't have time to wait for a delivery.

When I make the juice I know exactly what I am vaping.

Another benefit is to increase the VG component of the juice. I vape 70%VG.

Sometimes people see the vapor I get and ask my resistance and wattage. They are stunned when they see that I am vaping at 12.5 watts and .9 ohms when I blow bigger clouds than they can get with 40 watts on a .5 ohm coil.

Yeah. I was burning through the premade coils in about 4 day. I am fairly cost consous, and I needed to give rebuilding a try instead of continuing to blindly spend $1/day on coils. I'm glad I did because it was much easier than I anticipated!

I completely agree! ECF, so far, has been invaluable to me in my quest to quit cigarettes. Good luck to you too!

Congratulations!!!

Thanks! Tomorrow will be 4 weeks without a cigarette!!!

I will keep a small stash of OCCs as backups. It will be much easier to screw in an OCC when I am out and about than to have to break out the screw driver, but I am only planning on using them for backups. Cost aside, the RBA is still much better to me.

That is great to know! It is always important to me that I can get someone on the phone if I need to.

I imagine that I will also start looking at DIY juices in the near future. The problem that I have is that I still haven't found juice that I love. I don't even know what categories are my favorite. So I keep going to the local shops, sampling, and bringing home a small bottle. Once I have a juice that I love, I think I will gather the supplies to see if I can make something similar.

Wow, how did you switch that fast?

I've been vaping for 3 months, still can't let go my cigarettes. Good for you. What's your secret?

For me, vaping doesn't give me the dryness and bitter aftertaste. Cigarettes do. Especially after meal. How did you get over that?
My friend also inform us the equipment and nic level you choose as well as the method you inhale.
My advice though you get a high nic liquid and use it with mouth to lung inhale. still no response ? than play with PG/VG rate.

Not only is rebuilding more cost efficient but the flavor is better too.
