Hey fellow Vapers!

I am completely new to vaping (haven't tried it yet). I was a tobacco smoker for 20 years, and am currently using nicotine gum. I have also tried Nicorette inhaler, which gives the throat hit, but is very expensive, and I am looking for a more realistic smoking experience, without the health risk. What would you recommend that is closer to smoking traditional tobacco. From my reading, a refillable, rechargeable mini-tank with a cigarette look and feel would be a good option. Your thoughts please.

Thanks for your assistance.

Welcome Vid and best of luck! I started out on the EVO kits as well and was happy for a good while. Not a bad place to start while you look at all the shiny toys out there. Finding your happy place with equipment and juices can be entertaining. Try to enjoy the trip and not get too frustrated. You will have plenty of support from the great people on this forum.

Welcome Walter. I promise you will like vaping much more than the gum! If you would like a good beginner kit, I got this one and have enjoyed using it, and I haven't smoked since I received it. It is a good brand, Kanger, and comes with everything you need to get started except the juice. You get two batteries, so you can keep one charged up while you use the other one. It is more the size of a cigar than a cigarette, but I'm a gal and don't feel the least bit awkward using it.

If you use the code ECF at checkout you will get 10% off, so it is about $30, plus shipping is free. This is a reliable vendor with good customer service should you need it:

When I first thought seriously about vaping, the best advice I got was to NOT to go out and buy the cheapest setup. He had tried getting in with the cheapest units out there and ended up buying and tossing aside two units before finding the one that worked for him (which is the setup I started with). A buddy of mine ignored this advice when I passed in on to him, and his cheapo is now sitting abandoned on his desk and he is still smoking. While I plucked down a nice bit of change, I just compared it to the expense of my weekly carton.

I'd also suggest checking out a brick and morter store as opposed to buying blindly online. While it'll cost a bit more, the ability to try it before you buy it is worth it at the begining.

I would also recommend the EVOD kit as a good setup to start out with it. It is a little bigger than a regular cigarette, but still a good, comfortable size, and is easy to hold. I would also recommend getting a starter kit, when you're first starting out, so that you can get all that you initially should have - two batteries, two tanks, the correct charger - all in one package together. It's always good to have back-ups, especially when first starting out. When first starting out, I would also recommend ordering from a reputable company or a local brick-and-mortar store, so that you know you are getting a quality product and so that it is easier if you should have problems or questions about the equipment.

As far as e-liquid flavors go, many B&M stores will let you sample different flavors. If ordering online, look to see if the vendor offers sample packs. Don't order any large quantities of a flavor until you've tried it out and know that you will like it.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Welcome!! I have been vaping for over 3 months after smoking since 1977. By the time I quit analogs, I was smoking 1.5 to 2 packs a day. I visited a vapor shop in my area and they set me up with an EGO starter kit - 2 batteries, 2 tanks, charger. But the main key I found was the ability to try different flavors of e-juice at the shop. The shop can suggest the right amount of nicotine for you. If you find a flavor that is very enjoyable to you....it will lessen the chances of going back to analogs. While you are vaping with your new toys, read around this forum...............there is a TON of GREAT information here!! You will learn so much to help you move up the vaping ladder if you feel the desire to expand your hardware.

Hey MouseV,

I smoked about a pack a day of traditional tobacco (analog?) My brand was "Player's" and "DuMaurier" for 20 years. I live in Canada, so I am not sure if you have those brands in the US. Anyway, I am glad that you have switched to Vaping instead of certain death with analogs! Awesome! Thanks for the helpful information, and I am happy that everyone here is so accommodating and super nice.

I completely agree with kenbu, starting off cheap may give you a glimpse as to what you want, but most need to spend just a little bit more. I was a pack a day smoker when I received a basic starter kit and within 2 weeks it had been replaced and I couldn't be happier with my efforts in quitting.
