I went through a similar addiction to Buffy/Angel last year despite never having watched them while they were on. (Sexy vampires? You must be kidding me. I won't watch that.)
I do get hooked on shows with a great actor/actress in the central part even if the supporting cast has some talent gaps. As a result, the closest I come to being an addict, to excluding [H]ouse which is a given, is Elementary right now (despite the gorgeous Lucy Liu's thespic abilities.)
Never ask a fan if you can start with the new series, just a bit of FYI.

. That said you will want to see the first ever episode. The older set can get slow in the new age of watching tv hype. Fun to watch how it was done non the less. Suggestion have a hand full for each and every series season. blow through the newer seasons 1-4. And slow up at 5-7.

yes you can, also sarah jane (rip) had a spin off show from doctor who as did K-9. Sarah Jane came back for a episode and unfortunatley died not too long after. It was a happy moment.

Can you recite whole scenes from memory? If not, you are not even addict-adjacent.
True addicts do things like transcribe episodes.
Then, if the original people who organize the transcriptions drop out, take over, thereby ending up transcribing about have of the 8 seasons by themselves and organizing the rest of them.

All I have is time in the late evenings, so I think I'll do just that. Like I said, I'm not really concerned about catching up. If I get that way, I'll deal with it. Won't have any time for spinoffs, though.
