Hi All,

For anyone who read my posts yesterday my plan to quit full stop today was well anticipated and prepared for with many questions for advice...

Today I woke up and had my ecig to hand all ready to begin with no hassle...

But we drove home from my bros house and were being really careful in the snow when a car came from a side rd onto the main rd we were on and ploughed into the side of us(my mum,2 yr old daughter and other half...and mums shih tzu!!!)

We were literally within a hairs breath of going straight into a traffic light pole at which point i thought that was it, we were gone...but we are luckily all okay

I went into panic mode not because of this but because last year i was in a car accident much worse which totalled my car(the car we were intoday is totally squished on my passenger side though) and ended us all in hospitalw ith my mum who had broken ribs and stitches in her head...we nearly died that day and were lucky to only have gotten bruises and broken bones!

So i'm sorry to say i lit up a cigarette and have had a few today...am a bit of a wreck as i've spent a year trying to get over the first one and get back to feeling ok in a car but this was almost exactly the same(car ploughing into my door!!!)

I promise guys that once my parcels arrive(they were supposed to be here yesterday...one still coming from Heaven Gifts since 4th december) with supplies i will try again:(

Please be careful and safe this year and happy new year to all.I apologise as this is more of a story and may be in the worng place but everyones been so good to me I wanted you all to know although its a setback i will be back on track soon...

I am so sorry you had to go through something like that again. Glad to hear you and yours are okay.

Don't you dare be hard on yourself about smoking a few cigarettes. Sometimes vaping is just not enough. Still, some 69 days later, there's something in my brain chemistry that really really wants a cigarette. You will get better at resisting that urge. I haven't had a cigarette in that length of time, but if something happened to me like what happened to you, I can't honestly say I wouldn't buy a pack.

Don't beat yourself up about it, relax, thank God you and yours are fine, and put the smokes down when you are ready to. That's the only way it will work.

Happy New Year to you as well.

I don't think I would beat myself up if I had a smoke or two. They would probably make me sick since I havn't had one in a month or so though.

When I first got my PV, I didn't intend on quitting. I prefered to use the PV. Then, after a few days I decided to cut down on the analogs. The best advice I ever read was this.. If you want a smoke, go smoke. Doing that, 2 packs lasted me a month. Once I ran out of smokes, I just decided to not buy any more of them.

Besides.. if something like that happened to me I'm sure I'd be asking somebody for a smoke too! Glad to hear everyone is okay. It could have been a lot worse it sounds like.

Glad you're OK! I know the feeling you talk about here, I hit a deer a few years ago (thankfully a small one, wrecked the front end of my car though) and have been a more "nervous" driver ever since. It DOES get better over time, so hang in there.

I also think any smoker would fall off the wagon in your situation so don't worry about it!

The beauty of the e cig is that it is perfectly ok to backslide to smoking. Stop beating yourself up. Glad that you are ok, and that's all that matters.

Ack, Cass-
I'm so sorry to hear about your car accident. I am very glad everyone is okay.

I can certainly understand wanting a cigarette or 6 in that situation, especially with your past history there. (Also sorry to hear you had to go through that).

We are just so used to grabbing cigs in certain situations - stress, etc. Even when I was off cigs completely for a year & a half & had the nicotine out of my system & all... there were times I instinctively went to grab a pack out of my bag & was shocked there wasn't one there.

So, don't worry about it. Just take it easy, smoke a cig if you have to & get back to vaping when you can. The fact that you're posting here shows that you're still determined, so I'm sure you'll get past the setback.

Again, glad everyone is alright. *hugs* *sends a really large box of bubble wrap* (Just trying to make you smile with that last bit).

RR

Edit: Also, I think New Year's Resolutions are of questionable value. People pressure themselves to do something on that day that they may not be ready for. Or end up being unable to do it & then beat themselves up about it. The whole quit-date thing has never worked for me. I've always found I just wake up one day feeling extra-determined & go "Okay, today is the day." Perhaps you're the same. So, don't put all that pressure on yourself based on an arbitrary date. Go at the pace that works for you. I can tell from you post that this is something you want. And that means you'll make it. Just not today... no biggie. :)

Just adding my voice to the chorus. In such a stressful situation, take your comforts where you can get them, and don't beat yourself up.

I've now been vaping for over 50 days, and in that time I've smoked maybe two packs of cigarettes. I wasn't actually planning on fully quitting smoking; I was just curious about vaping, and liked the idea of not having to go outside all the time in winter. However, I now find that I genuinely prefer vaping, and I don't care if I never smoke again.

My theory is that some people are just really, deep-down ready to quit, even if they don't consciously realise it. IMO the all-or-nothing, quit-or-die attitude is actually counter-productive. If you "fall off the wagon", it's a bit like getting caught outside in a rain shower. You can either accept that you're going to be wet and cold for a while, or you can fret about it, in which case you'll just be wet, cold and fretful!

If you give yourself full permission to smoke if you really want to, and just keep enjoying the vape, you may find the whole process of switching much more comfortable and natural.

thankyou for the bubblewrap and the hugs and everything...to some a may sound like a whiner and i wish there was a rational button in my brain i could push to just forget and carry on but that is the nature of being human i guess...learning from mistakes/accidents means remembering them...sometimes all too often...

anyway yes i am determined to quit and am very appreciative of every message. i was reading only recently of a few others who have had days like mine(not comparing to any in particular just situations that caused them to go back to smoking and i was saying the same thing as you guys are to me...)

if anyone has had stressful times and NOT picked up an analog i would love to hear how you managed it in the early stages???

part of today included police and onlookers being there and not wanting to have to explain my ecig with tears in my eyes...haha perhaps it would have made a good advertisement for them in times of stress!!!but hopefully next time i will reach for my 510...(or protege if i get one for my birthday!!!)

I've been involved in two car crashes in my time, they are bloody scary, especially after they have happened and you start thinking about all the "what if's"...a smoke is perfectly understandable and acceptable.

I'm glad that everybody was ok though...and you don't sound like a whiner, just somebody who has been through a stressful/traumatic experience and responded like any of us would.

First of all, glad you guys are ok! Any type of stress can trigger the need for a real cigarette. Don't focus on the fact that you had a few cigs, focus on the fact that it was less than you usually have. Look for the small triumphs and build on them day by day. I hate resolutions because they set you up for failure from the start. A better goal would be: I will smoke less than I have in the past. This is far easier to achieve and you won't be disappointed.

You can do it! Don't beat yourself up about the mistake and look to rectify it. It's all a learning experience!

Glad to hear everyone is ok after the accident, and do quit feeling guilty about smoking those cigarettes.
Now quit pressuring yourself with “I will not have another cigarette after (fill in the blank)”.
Just start working with your new equipment when it arrives, find what works best for you, and let your body dictate when you last choose to light a cigarette. I’m confident that soon enough the taste and feel of the electronic version will trump the burning of the paper cylinder. Once in a while you may even still get a pang or yearning for the “real” thing but, at least in my case, I find that when I get hit with the occasional urge I simply imagine lighting up and find the idea off putting, so I don’t bother. The impulse disappears completely at that point, and I’ve come to think of those moments as phantom urges, because they are completely without substance now.
Just make sure you always have supplies on hand and you’ll find your stride.

I gotta say, I was really stressed one day at work, cant say why because I'm government and its classified but I immediately grabbed my chuck and vaped away. One thing that might help is a stronger PV. I've noticed that its not the nicotine content that soothes me but the intense amount of vapor thats generated from my chuck at 3.7v and especially at 6v. So knowing that I can be completely soothed and satisfied by my chuck keeps me away from asking a coworker for a drag from an analog.

I'm really sorry about the accident, I've known many friends injured from accidents and its very stressful to say the least. Just keep in mind that I always considered the new year to start on the first monday of the new year. So maybe it might be nice to think of that also. I hope you feel better soon!
