Hi from New Zealand
Only been vaping for 4 days so way new lol.. still learning the ropes.
I was diagnosed with emphemesia (sp?).. recently,so have been coughing and barking awhile...
I have not coughed as much since taking vaping up and feel better too.

I do have a question?
I cough on my inhales now with the new device I have and don't get it.
When I was trying it out in the shop I coughed..I brought it as was in such a hurry as was late for an appointment I had..
I cough and don't get it..
Alot now....
Any input would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks all

Had a fun example recently, had a friend round who keeps on dabbling in vaping and keeps on going back to smoking.

He tried using my Vaporesso Luxe with a DTL (Direct to Lung, it's where you pretty much inhale) Skrr tank and pretty much coughed their guts up every time they had a vape from it even though they loved the look of it.

So, just for the sake of it I tried them with a SXK Prime MTL (Mouth To Lung, similar to smoking style as you pull the vapour into your mouth and then inhale) rebuildable atomiser. I almost had to pry it out of their hands as they didn't cough or choke, even though initially they didn't like the idea of it at first until they vaped it.

It's just that us vapers can tolerate and enjoy one style more than the other.

@kiwigirl63, do you have any local vape shop with a juice tasting bar near you? As my idea is that you could try different VG/PG concentrations and different tanks or atomisers (DTL and MTL) so you can narrow down what works for you better. But one thing that you do need to know is that high VG to full VG liquids don't wick well to not at all with drop in coils, rebuildables can though.

Thank you
I think mine is a direct lung as I tried in the shop as she said I should get that one...
I actually don't even understand the difference between the two...I really don't know anything about it...she didn't explain very well...

Good morning...from France. Yes it can be confusing at first. Direct lung is like breathing...the vape goes straight to your lungs without being held in your mouth first. Mouth to lung is like we all smoked....held in the mouth first and then inhaled.

If you're are DL that's one of the reason's you can't get a throat hit. It's actually easily rectified if you can stand a slightly more restricted draw....can I ask again exactly what you are using at the moment? :)

Up the Nic. I started at 24mg. Two draws per hour and I was physically satisfied. It gave me confidence because I quit cigs on the spot.

I understand the MTL and DTL styles. It is just not the only way to get Nic. I met a guy that rubbed a drop of juice on his gum and was happy. I thought it would take the pleasure of vaping away. Maybe in an emergency, I suppose.

Anyway, lungs aren't required. Unless of course if you can't get smoking out of your head.

I would just focus on getting your Nic in a way that doesn't trigger your COPD. Also consider determining if PG or VG is the cause. Keep in mind that PG carries the flavor better than VG, but VG creates more vapor.

Another irritant might be just the temperature of your vape. A lot of hot, moist air can be irritating, especially going into the lungs fast. I vape at 10-12 watts and do slow 6-8 second draws. Flavor sits on my taste buds longer and then I smell it as it exits through my nose.

Try different things, find what works for you.
Thank you so much for this information..I will definitely keep all this in mind when I visit the shop again for juice on Thursday... thank you..

That's a good MTL device, and you can increase your nicotine considerably if you need.

But I'm confused with the COPD.. so you only smoked for 6 months in your entire life?

If that's the case I would transition away from vaping quickly, you shouldn't need it at all to quit smoking really. 6 months of smoking isn't enough to be addicted really and with COPD it's best to not inhale any foreign substance..

As far as coughing goes, I smoked for 32 years and coughed tremendously with vaping, but every time I coughed stuff out of my lungs I felt better and better, until I could finally breathe again.

But since you don't have a smoking background to speak of I don't know how it will go for you, but for some people coughing will last a couple weeks into the full transition.
Sorry didn't make myself clear..I'm 55 years old..I started smoking aged 12.. I smoked full on till 2006.. I gave up then..until 6 months ago,I started smoking again..so yes I have a big history of smoking..hence my COPD..cheers

You had been quit long enough that the coughing is probably not your lungs healing, its likely due to the fact that vaping is an irritant for your lungs and something your not used to.

Give yourself a week or two to get used to vaping and see if it doesn't stop after your more used to it..

If it doesn't stop soon, you'll want to revisit this though..

Ok well not sure if this has already been suggested but your device has an intergrated tank so you cant choose another one to go on it. The only variable may be the coils....so for example there may be some other brands of coils that will fit the tank and give you more of a throat hit.

As I suggested before your best bet to start with is to up your nic level...18-24mg/ml or if you get salt nic 36mg/ml

Attached is a video showing how satisfying just two puffs on a 36mg salt nic can be....it can give a good throat hit too if you MTL with it.

I would suggest you try the salt nic and all the different setting on you airflow MTL and DL to see if you can get yourself a throat hit. If it still doesn't satisfy then the only option is to change your device and tank.

Thanks so much for the video..I so appreciate that, and will check it out when I get more data later today.. thank you so very much as this is very informative...

I can vape near anything. If it is high Nic, I just take less draws. Low Nic, I tape it to my mouth.

Or take shallower draws until you settle in. Nice thing about that is that you can vape more. I used to use a stronger Nic juice for first thing in the morning. But, sitting in front of the TV with my mod in my hand, I tended to vape more so I had a tank or two with less Nic.

Many Vapers have multiple tanks. Especially early on.

Hey! Fellow New Zealander here. Sounds like whatever shop you went to hasn't given you much info, which isn't surprising as some vape shops I've been to here in NZ have people there that don't even vape and don't know much about it at all. But, people here on this forum are quite helpful, so you're in luck there!

If you live in Auckland or Hamilton I have gone into the Vape Shed in both cities and they have been very helpful, they even sat down with my mother (trying to quit as well) at the Hamilton East store and showed her how vapes worked, what the different nicotine levels were, explained direct to lung vs mouth to lung etc. without her buying anything that day.

Perhaps my @AngeNZ can help here....are you around Ange? 12mg seems a strange limit to have...but what do I know about NZ...i'm an English guy living in France.

Just know kiwigirl63 that this can be sorted and it will be the best option as against the death sticks :) Lots of us here are people that just couldn't give up in any other way except vaping. NB. There is always a bit of pain in the early stages though....you still need your determination at first.....anyway I hope Ange can help and good luck to you :)
