Hi. :) Newbie here looking for some advice.

A little background info: My husband and I were both smokers. About a week before Xmas we got a Volcano starter kit--just one to decide whether we liked it or not. I did, he didn't because the pre-filled carts weren't strong enough for him (8mg). So, at that point I got some e-liquid (24mg) and started re-filling them using the blue foam mod. It worked okay but he still didn't like it much because it seemed he couldn't get very much out of it. For myself, I got myself a few joye510 manual batts+cartos and some juice. He took one drag of those and decided that was for him and we gave the Volcano set up to my dad.

So, after getting some more supplies--we are all setup on our 510s. I am 7 days smoke-free, him 2 days. Here is were the advice comes in:

510 batt life sucks. We have 4 or 5 batts rotating at home for us and that works fine. However, my husband is a garbage man so not only can he vape all day--it is a long day (atleast 10-11 hours). What is the best set-up for him in that situation? Today he took 4 charged batts/loaded cartos with him but I don't know if that will be enough. I told him to take 5 drags every 1/2 an hour and that might last him. I just don't want him to buy a pack of analogs if he runs out.

I bought a 510 PCC and it should be coming. I'm hoping this will work for him. He also has a USB connection on his radio in the truck, so maybe a passthrough? Advice?

Thanks.

ETA: I should also mention (at this point) he doesn't want a bigger ecig. I realize an Ego, etc...would be ideal for him but he "doesn't want to look like a fool".

You were smart to get 24mg liquid as a new vaper trying to make the transition.

There are many "better battery" devices on the market. The obvious choice since you have the 510 is an eGo or Riva 510. Since you already have the atomizers, you could just purchase the batteries. Get ones with the highest mAh rating you can find. I think that would be 1100 mAh.

As time goes on, you probably will want to consider a good 5 volt or variable volt device that has non-proprietary batteries and provides a more consistent vape. These type of batteries will last 6-8 hours on a charge and only cost about $3.50 each and have a much longer life expextancy than the "tube" batteries. The new variable volt (VV) Darwin PV is suppose to last 24-48 hours on one charge. Here is a site that summarizes many of the better battery devices:

Best e-Cig Mod List | e-Cig Mods Database

I missed the part about not wanting to look like a fool. That's a shame he thinks that. All of us who smoked were the real ones who looked like fools. I use several 5 volt PV's, including a box mod. I get the exact opposite reaction from most people, commenting that they like the idea that it DOESN'T look like a cigarette and happy that I am doing something positive to not smoke.

Good Luke what ever you decide.

Mad Vapes has a good, inexpensive 5V PT that will work with your 510 stuff. If he is stubbornly resisting a different battery, consider getting yourself one, using it and enjoying it and making him jealous by not having to change batts all day. He will come around.

Well, I was going to suggest an eGo at a minimum for your DH, but since he's afraid of looking like a fool with it that's out. Batteries are a compromise, if you want longer life you're pretty much stuck with getting something larger. A PCC will help and might do the trick. There's also 510 Mega batteries which will give a bit more time between charges and you can get a PCC for them too. If that sounds appealing check here Joye 510 E Cig | Joye Cigarette Models: Joye 510, Electronic Cigarette Parts & Accessories and you'll find what you need. If he's in the cab of his truck for any length of time a PT might work and they'll have those too along with the adapters to plug into.
Ego's aren't really that big, they just look like it in the pictures. They're about the size of a small cigar and when it's in your hand it's mostly hidden anyway. I really think that's what you're going to end up with anyway despite his objections now. It's a matter of convenience. I know I'd rather just vape all day on 2 batteries than have to carry 2 batteries and a PCC and switch them around all the time. You could always get an eGo kit for youself, but I'll bet he ends up taking it with him to work.

Unfortunately battery girth and length pretty much determines battery life. A standard 510 battery is 180mah. And I don't think a PCC would even provide enough on-the-go charges for a 510 for 10-11 hours unless a 510 batteries lasts longer than 2 hours for him (510 PCC can recharge battery 3-4 times)

To get a longer battery life in a mini - he could use 510 xl batteries which are longer and 280mah (I don't know if there is a PCC available for them though, so might have to carry multiple batteries). At most, the xl batteries might give 50%-60% more battery life?

Or use a KR808D-1 (vapor4life.com is same thing) because more of its length is battery (it is a 2-piece model and uses cartomizers). Standard length KR8 is about the same length as standard 510 and 280 mah and ther eis a PCC available. KR8 w/ xl batteries is 380mah (about same physical length as xl 510 assembled, but more length is battery so longer battery life. however the KR8 PCC can't close if it's charging an xl KR8 battery (they show it sitting on a surface to do that with the battery holder pointed up)

But I wouldn't buy a whole cartomizer model without trying cartomizers first - he could try some 510 cartomizers and see how he likes using and filling cartomizers.

Another thought - he could carry 2 PCCs?

or heck - an Ego or Riva probably only costs about $30 - get one and see how you feel about it. if nothing else it would be useful for other times when you need long battery life.

Would he feel any less foolish sucking on something that looks like a screwdriver? I don't know the battery life but there is one that looks like a metal screwdriver.

The other option are the 510 "mega batteries", which (as far as I can tell) are just like the 510 batteries he has now but are longer. They still do not hold the charge that an eGo/Riva battery holds. To me, those longer batteries would look more "foolish" on a sanitation worker than a Riva. :)

The black Riva is pretty low-key and not at all prissy looking. One "trick" is to not hold it like a cigarette. Hold it inside the hand with the thumb on the button.

get him a pipe style e-cig so he looks eccentric and not a fool =) j/k (no cracks with pipe users, i love that thing!)

i got a 510 too at first because i felt the ego or other mods where to big, but, ultimately as with every heavy vaper, the battery was disappointing. so i succumb and bought an ego for its 8hr continuous vaping battery (650mah and 1000mah (10-12hr)on the mega), and after awhile of using it i didnt mind and much preferred its size. it was easier to handle, to gripd and press the switch. not to mention the normal bat and mega atty has the nice size of a normal cigar. like what ShannonS said...hell come around.

Thanks for all the great advice guys. :)

I plan on getting an eGo for myself in a few weeks regardless. If he wants to stay with the 510s that's fine but knowing him once he sees that the eGo is not the monsterous thing he is imagining, he will want that. He is still stuck in the "I want to look like I am smoking a REAL cigarette" mindset. Using a 510 now is a good step away from that so hopefully an eGo won't be too far behind as it would be perfect for both of us.

I'm a total newbie, but I got the big battery 2-piece "Eden" kit from donttouchmybutt.
I wanted something inexpensive to see how I'd like it, and I'm in love. I'd heard a bunch of good reviews of their e-cig, so I took a chance on this. Vaping like a pack-a-day smoker, I got about 40 hours out of my first battery. It's the size of a fancy pen with an inch lopped off, so it really fits perfectly in your palm. Their tobacco flavor is tasty, but I immediately ordered some crazy juices from another site for carto refilling. I'd post a link, but I don't know how. :p

If you're considering getting an eGo anyway I'd suggest you get at least one bigger battery, either the Mega or XL at 900mah or more. I've got some of them and it allows me to vape for 12 to 14 hours on a single charge. You might want to consider the Mega cartomizers too since they hold a lot of juice and 2 filled in the morning will probably last a full work day. Some people like them, others don't.

I got a MK111 duracig, you get 2 complete e-cigs, From a pack a day smoker I can say that it really isn't enough, I need to take the spare with me. If I forget to put them on charge in the evening I am struggling. If your hubby can charge on the go using car lighter socket, then in rotation might be ok, I tend to agree with others that I should have got the eGo (2 if your just starting, you tend to puff heavily at first!) now one would last me all day without problems and the second would be charged ready for tomorrw.

Congrats! And welcome! FWIW, we took the same route - started w/ sharing the 510's, then I bought an eGo b/c the battery switching was making me crazy. DH eyeballed it a few days, and thought it looked dorky... then one day, he hadn't charged all his tiny batteries, so he took my eGo to work. HOOKED!

I had to buy another device (twist my arm, huh? ;) ) and then we were both set. He eventually switched to the Riva 901, and loves it. Meanwhile, I'm looking at getting a Chuck... but I'm considering getting it in pink, just to lessen the odds that I'll lose that one, too. I wouldn't mind, though - we're both analog-free since May, and it's been great!
