Hi all

I just ordered some nic. I figure I'm gonna wait a bit, try out some different juices, and then start trying to mix flavors I like.

Here's the question: Is it better to get PG (or VG) in large quantities-- say 250ml+ to have around, or is it better to just order smaller batches as you go, ensuring that it is fresh-- or does it really matter? I've read that PG holds longer than VG does, overall, but for the purposes of doing batches that will obviously be vaped well before a half a year, does the age of the PG or VG make a difference in mixing consistency and, more important, flavor?

I think you'll do fine with PG in larger quantities. VG's way too easy to find locally to bother with buying online and adding the cost of shipping. Personally, I don't use much PG, so a 60-mL bottle lasts a long time for me, but my mixes usually need right about 40% of pg overall--and the bulk of that is provided by my flavorings and nic juice.

Did you buy your nicotine base pre-mixed? I bought mine at Box Elder Chemical Supply, and it is labeled with an expiration date, which is a year after it was mixed. It needs to be stored in a cool dark place. Box Elder comes in a cobalt blue bottle.

My base is 36 mg PG. I use HUMCO USP Glycerin from Walmart and flavoring to make 18 mg juice. I also use plain PG from Capella (a flavoring company) to adjust percentages.

I have used flavorings from FlavourArt and Capella, and I have some Signature (The Perfumer's Apprentice) on order. Most flavorings are about 5 to 20% of the total mixture, except for coffee and tobacco flavors, which are much lower (I don't go over 1% for coffee).

According to a pharmacist member on ECF, all USP glycerin (VG) is the US is made by Humco and relabeled for other companies. There are other brands of VG, but they may not be USP.

The most important expiration date is your nicotine base. If it doesn't have an expiration date or a lot number, write to the site you purchased it from and ask.

Be careful with your nicotine supplier. I have bought from 3 so far and one that I bought because of the sale was way chemically smelling and tasting. I have found that the clearer the color the better it is flavor wise for having good flavor results. The best I have found so far in price comparison was Arctic Vapors. It takes a little longer to get because they are in Alaska but my flavors come through great. Analog free for 6 months and counting. I will have saved money eventually. Now have all siblings (4) and 3 friends off the nasty analogs and into vaping. Mixing is still an ongoing process. This forum is great. Something new to learn all the time.
