I've been reading up on e-cigs for the past few hours but am still a bit confused.

Some key information first:

1. I smoke Marlboro Lights

2. I usually smoke 5-10 a day

3. Ideally, I would like the e-cig to look like a real cigarette

4. I would prefer it if the kit wasn't shipped from the USA (I live in the UK)

- Which starter kit would you recommend?

- What strength do I need?

I've read a bit about V2 cigs, SmokeStik, Apollo, Halo G6, Green Smoke, eGo and a few others I can't remember the name of.

I was close to purchasing the Halo G6 but found out that no one in the UK stocks it and thought that it was better to ask you guys first.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is it absolutely necessary that it looks like a cigarette? Like most people, I started with them but quickly moved on. Most of them only offer prefilled cartridges (so your flavor options/nicotine levels are limited), and they're relatively expensive. Adding insult to injury, some are not compatible with others.

If you can handle something just a bit bigger (2.5 cm longer than a 'cigarette' size), I'd go with an ego battery and a clearomizer. Both can be bought in multiple places. I have the plain ego 650 mah battery. (By comparison, I understand that a normal cigarette-size battery is 110 mah. In other words, a 650 mah battery should last approximately six times as long as a 110 mah battery.)

In fairness, I know many people like the VV (variable voltage) ego batteries. I'm not familiar with them. I understand they are a bit longer than the 'standard' ones I have.

Just about all the things you noted could have applied to me, just over a week ago (including the gadget size).

I ordered the G6 because I wanted it to be "shaped" like a cigarette. I was not accustomed to the idea of holding a large gadget (in comparison to the size of the cigarette) for smoking, err, vaping.

The G6 worked for me for a few days, but what worked very well for me was an Ego-C Upgrade 650mAh (offers Variable voltage power in a compact size) with Kanger T2 or T3 Tanks. You can even get a Kanger eVOD which is a smaller tank, and even make the gadget even more compact.

Putting this together with a good "RY4" Liquid with 12 mg/ml nicotine liquid and I had for myself a perfect starter set up that would address everything I needed:

1) a replacement for my Marlboro lights, about 1/2 to 1 pack per day
2) compact size, big power
3) volumes of vapor, matching, or more than my cigarettes
4) long lasting battery and liquid capacity

My G6 set, which I thought was pretty good, had now been relegated to a back up in less than a week's time.

A eGo kit like this, which can last a very long time, would cost about roughly about $70(with extras), so it's relatively economical too. And for you specifically, you should easily find these in the UK.

Hope that helps, good luck.

Thanks for all the help. I think I've narrowed it down to one of the Egos or the Joyetech eRoll Kit.

Anyone have an opinion on which one is better for a 5-10 a day Marlboro Lights smoker?

Definitely go with the Ego, that's my opinion but I think you will like it more. The eRoll is good as well if your looking for more of a cigarette shaped device, but I believe the Ego will give you an all around better vape experience.

Is there a specific model you would recommend? The world of e-cigs is very confusing.

If size is everything i'd get this, Joyetech Joye eGo-C Twist Variable Voltage 650mAh Battery it's variable voltage and cheap, and variable voltage is a way better vaping experience than non variable voltage, also with that battery pick up some of these Vision Ego Clearomizer V2.0 or these Kanger EVOD eGO Bottom Coil Clearomizer and some e liquid and you should be good to go!

Forgot to link the charger! Here it is http://www.myvaporstore.com/Joyetech_eGo_Rapid_USB_Charger_p/ego-char.htm

Also pick up two batteries, so you have one to use while the other is charging.

The eRoll Battery Info; 100 mah= 1 hour of vaping.
Pros
cig sized
fires @ 3.7 volts
Extra batteries only $10.00
Cons
Batts are only 90 mah- comes with a charging case so as soon as you're done vaping you put it in the charging case
uses proprietary attachments
cartridge (holds juice) is .6 ml- quite small
case only holds 1 cartridge- many use a Tic Tacs container to carry extra carts.
Here's a review by highly regarded PB. He gives it a thumbs down AND a thumbs up.

For your needs I think you would have a hard time beating the Joye eRoll. It packs a respectable punch despite its small cig-alike form factor and is about as hassle-free as vaping gets. I have nine larger PVs but I find myself often using one of my eRolls when I want to sit down and relax with a small, fuss-free device.

The stylish iPhone-type PCC case that houses the battery is only 4 1/4" x 1 7/8" x 1/2". It is 1000 mAh that is good for about 10 hours of average vaping before needing to be recharged.

The cig-alike battery is 80 mAh but you use it by taking a few vapes and putting the battery back in the case fully assembled—very handy and easy. In practical terms that means that the eRoll battery will last as long as the PCC is charged.

These reviews cover how the eRoll works. The eMini is identical to the eRoll but sold by Ovale.

It looks as if that setup will cost me around £55, which sounds okay to me.

1x Kanger eVod Bottom Coil Clearomizer (£5.25)

2x Joyetech eGo Twist 650 mAh battery (£45.39 + charger)

1x E-Liquid Hangsen Hs Premium Delight Tobacco 10ml / 30ml (£5)

Actually, I just found this as well: eGo-C Twist vv kanger t3 starter kit Although it looks as if it comes with 2x Kanger T3 cleromizers. It looks as if buying the starter kit is better (found a 10% discount code as well).

Think I will be buying that tonight. Thanks for your help. Which e-liquid would you recommend out of these: E Liquid ? E Cigarette Liquid | Vapourbase

Edit: Ahhh, two people just posted before me. Looks as if I'll be researching some more.

You want an honest answer?

- If you think you'll stick with Ego style batteries get nothing other than an Ego C Twist or the similar Vision Spinner, and then get a Pro Tank. I've tried just about everything under the sun, IF you plan to stick with Egos nothing will compare.

- If you think you're going to get into something a little more advanced and maybe with a replaceable battery then get a Provari with the Protank as mentioned above.

My logic is to spend, but spend wisely on quality products, NOT spend and then spend some more just to end with with the gear I suggested above in the first place. Avoid the temptation of low cost gear, buy quality products if you think this is for you, you'll save tons of money this way.

If thinking about the Twist I believe the 650 mah would last you for about 2 days before recharge is needed. It usues the most common and popular 510 threaded attachments.
Here's the length without a juice delivery device attached ( add approx 50-60 mm for this)
650 Twist
Length 98mm/ Diameter 14mm
900 Twist
Size:Length 111mm/ Diameter 14mm
1000 Twist
121mm/Diameter/ Diameter 14mm

Most new vapers begin @ either 18 or 24 mg BUT seeing as you're a light smoker I would say 12 mg maximum....maybe even 8 mg. When choosing flavors expect some to taste HORRIBLE. I would suggest you begin with a wide array of flavors in 5 ml sample size- desserts, fruits, tobaccos, etc. Once you know what you enjoy you can purchase larger quantities.

As for the components of juice and how they relate to the vape

Juice Components

Flavoring usually about 10-15%- could be higher or lower depending on the flavor used.
PG enhances flavor, TH and lung hit- water like - many of us believe PG to be a throat irritant.
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine. The MOST important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standards in the industry are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG.

Edit: I know all this information is quite overwhelming but once you have PV in hand it will all come together. We were all in this predicament at one point.

Hi Smithy. Some good advice in this thread. Almost everybody starts wanting something that looks like a cigarette. A lot of people are very happy with them and others get frustrated because of the short battery life and weak vape and either move up or go back to the tar. A pair of ego twists or vision spinners will be pretty much guaranteed to set you up comfortably for a long time. After that, you can chose to augment your collection with a cigalike or a big battery mod if you prefer.

On the other hand, a small cigalike may be all you ever need (but get backups). If you decide it's not for you, I'm pretty sure you will find that there are still times when you can use them. Just remember that there are more powerful options before you are tempted to go back to burning tobacco.

Good luck in your decision. Either way, it's the right choice.
