Hi all newbie here. I'm running a smok alien with 0.4 & 0.15 ohm coils and generally vaping around 60w. Just wondering what batteries people would recommend. I was thinking of buying the Sony vtc5a. Does anyone have any experience with these batteries in this mod? Or can anyone recommend any other batteries. Probably won't go over 100w max

Welcome @Triggers broom !

It will come down a lot to your "probably." If you stay at or below 100 watts, 20A 3000mah batteries will work well and give better battery life then the VTC5A's. But if you might start pushing or exceeding 120 watts, the VTC5A's will provide sufficient power, but at the cost of battery life. A good solution might be to get a married pair of each giving you the power if/when needed and back-up batteries should you need them to get through the day. And if you do much 100 watt vaping, it's unlikely either pair would get you through a full day of "heavy" use.

Hi and welcome. I agree with the above: if you will reliably stay under 120W in a two-battery machine, the Samsung 30Q cells will offer safe and reliable performance, plus better battery life. If you want/need more power than that, even occasionally, get a pair of the Sony VTC5As or the LG HD2C cells and use them for high-watt usage, at the expense of some battery life. And yes, if you're going to vape that hard as an all-day thing, you'll probably want more than one pair of the high amp cells.

Welcome and glad you joined.
I have provided a little more information which might help choosing/evaluating batteries.

Note that the Smok Alien discharges the batteries down to 2.8-2.9v, meaning that the amp draw at battery cutoff is higher than with many other two-battery mods. Two 20-amp batteries are good up to about 105-110w, two 25-amp batteries are good up to about 135w.
