hello! well im new to vaping but ive been so inspired by everyone here who is coming up with such great ideas. and since ive always liked tinkering and hacking things up i figure id give this a shot.

anyway so i had a broken battery and was looking around for some case/enclosure to mod something and i stumbled on an old laser pointer i had. they are around $2-3 at walmart (usually in the checkout aisle)

i had 2 of these, one was missing the rubber pads so i used that to hack up. the bottom end screws off and the top you have to use brute force but it all comes apart...

i also had an old usb gamepad that didnt work too well so i hacked the cord. **notice, these laser pointers come with perfect tactile switches! :D another bonus.

so this is a work in progress but so far ive sanded off the knob on the screw top end and will drill a hole to mount the atomizer connector. the end the laser/led originally went was drilled for the usb cord.

well the basic idea will be to construct a small pcb to hold the tact switch and led/resistor. that way i can wire it to the usb cord and extend enough wire to reach the other end for the connector. then just slide it in with some tweezers. its going to be a tight fit but a little planning will take care of it.

gotta pick it back up and work again later when i have some time, but i just thought id share this because i was impressed with the laser housing/pre drilled holes/free tact switch.

alright heres my update, took forever to get around to actually finishing this but heres what i got. i took the screw cap of the laser points and filed down the knob, by that point i could just pop a hole in it without a drill, then had to drill the hole bigger and shove the battery connector thru. the battery connector is VERY tight and secure. no jb weld needed, i had to use some weights to 'hammer' it in there but its not going anywhere.

heres both sides of the screw cap, i modified the connector because the little silicon ring kinda melted away after soldering so i added some heat shrink to isolate it from the ground.

heres what the assembled housing looks like

i didnt get a pic of the little circuit i built, opted for no led since i was lazy but could have added one easily. the circuit basically holds the tact switch and carries pos/neg to the battery connector. i slid some foam underneath the circuit to isolate the copper bottom and keep it high enough for the rubber button pad.

well not the prettiest passthrough, but it works for now. still need to clean it up, maybe a black finish and add some heat shrink at the bottom to tighten up the usb cable. man this thing vapes! i got it working and immediately threw on an old atty that was not doing so well with batts and this thing is vaping nicely again. cant wait to try it on my newer atty!

and after assembling this i wish i had made the battery connecter on the other end because i had to hold the circuit/wires steady and the cap, and actually twist the housing to tighten it (if that makes sense, lol). to not twist the wires too much. but over all im please for my first mod, i think next time it'll look better and go more smoothly
