I think the advice the OP gave is sound. The only difference is that I would suggest getting a Foxy Box mods regulated 5 volt box mod kit (foxyboxmods.com - Home) or his Variable Voltage Kit (either way someone gets a great and complete set up for under $60). I know I moved from a KR808 to an ego to 5 and 6 volt vaping rather quickly. I wish I would have had the OP's advice when I first started.

The OP's advice is not the only way to go, but it is solid advice if a new vapor does not need something that looks and functions more like a cigarette.

I don't know if I would have started off with a box mod. I didn't even know there was such a thing. I'm sure as heck vaping one now! I got tired of having to order new Rivas every month and have every outlet in the kitchen occupied by charging Rivas lol. I LOVE my foxybox 5V! I also own the 3.7V and bottom feeder but use my 5V most of the time. I am one of those that needed more throat hit to stay off the stinkies..... An inexpensive boxmod is not only more economical, there is less waste from expired batteries. I still have some Rivas and I still use them every once in a while, but for me, my little foxybox kicks tail! I think the recommendation of a box mod is sound advice.

IDK why you would have to order new batteries every month..I have been using 3 SmokTech 900mAh eGo's since last summer and they are still going strong.

I don't agree with the OP as I have had a few atomizers fail pretty quickly and they become expensive..that's why I prefer CE2's..I even build my own atomizers for dripping out of CE2 parts because the Carmel Tobacco I use kills atomizers fast. I am very happy with my eGo's and I don't think everyone will want a mod.

I might build a mod sometime but more because I like to tinker with electronics and it will be a VV mod that I probably would use below 4 volts most of the time..there is no one answer to what everyone will like in a e cig..anyways eGo's are a good starting point for a lot of people as I'm sure a lot would like a mod of some kind...

I'll defintiely look into this. Thank you.

This reminds me of this. I'm pretty sure everyone here knows this, but it's funny coz it's sooo true: 4 Stages of Vaping - YouTube

....LOL...I did not know this video-but it is great!!!!....it reminds me of someone....LOL.... Thank you for posting it-it made my day!!!!

I was lucky and got advices from an informed e-smoker from the beginning. All the problems I read about from newcomers I did not have to go through. Thanks again my dear friend!
I have 2 types of e-cigs:
one is, I call it my "Latino Version" of the eGo-bcs. I bought it in Spain-it has ?980...?1000v batteries with LED indicator for battery status and a "soak counter" ???...is this the right expression?. And I use an 510 atomizer with an Volume Control Tank...you see-the best equipment for "blonds"....LOL...the model shows you all, only a bell is missig which rings:... hey Blondy....-your battery or your tank is empty!!!...LOL
I am using also XL or XXL clear cartomisers...which I begin to love more and more....
These 2 mods I am using during the day in the office...etc... and at home in the evening....no problem ever.

My second e-cig is a PCC SLIM model-mini&more...you know???. This is a very elegant one in a leather case with a size of a cell phone-use it for "elegant outgoing" It has a very long lasting battery for a Slim size, and the taste and vapour is great.
I love that ciggy also very much.

My dear friend also intruduced me to mix my liquids by my self....and I already have approx. 30 different flavours in stock-for 3 months e-smoking I think I am on the best way.....:2c:
and also bought approx. 30 ready-to-use-liquids.....:smokie: ....and I always love to create new combinations.....and I can proudly say I did some real good ones.... ...for my pervers taste of course  ....like champagne/strawberry....cochiba/bourbon/vanilla....7wolfes/cherry/cola......no, I am not an AA.........and the liquids are tasting very much better than the drinks!!!!

It's obvious you are a light vapor. The eGo batteries are rated for 150 - 200 recharges. Non-proprietary batteries such as ones used in a model like the E-Power or GLV are rated for 1000 recharges. The only reason LR, dual coil attys/cartos and 5 volt and variable volt models exist is because so many people have found that vaping at 4.5 volts - 5.0 volts or the equivalent (LR) is the vaping sweet spot. Your vaping needs does not fit many who vape.

I go through 5ml of juice some days and I was a 1-2 PAD Marlboro Box smoker for 20 years I even smoked Camel non-filters on occasion. I would say the ones using the higher volt designs are not the norm..sure there are quite a few here but the people who like to mod are into tech so they are more likely to post on forums. The mod community kind of reminds me of the people that go into tobacco shops and buy 100 different pipes.

Sure some batteries charge a little more because of being a little better quality and mAh but li-ion batteries have a pretty much standard charge cycle. If someone is going through a 900mAh eGo battery once a month either there is something wrong with them or there doing something wrong. If there using lower than 2ohm coils on most eGo's they are doing something wrong. Don't call me a light vapor when you are clueless maybe some people are super heavy vapors and are overdoing it a bit.

For the price eGo's are a good deal..you pretty much buy them and use them and throw them out after maybe a year. I have 3-900mAh SmokTech's I bought last August and I drip through 1-2ml or more in a few hours sometimes with my fav Carmel Tobacco on 1 of them without it dying..I doubt you would call that light use.

BTW this user name ChrispyCritter was gave to me as a teen because of my "smoking ability" it comes from Crispy Critters cereal my name is Chris and a couple of my friends called me Chrispy..I used to down a liter of JD and "smoke" like crazy...

...while I have come to believe that 5v vaping is THE sweet spot, not everyone is the same or has the same wants...think of when ya smoked the funkarettes and just how many diff brands/styles/strengths/flavs there were/are...if we were all the same, there would only have been one brand, not hundreds(or even thousands)..........

I have a 5v mod, I seldom use. For 2 bucks more you can get a varivolt box mod from the same place. In my case it would be totally worth it. Variable Voltage Box Mod

Some of us, don't have a huge assortment of atomizers or cartomizers on hand. Adjusting the voltage on the device itself is much easier than buying new gear. With a standard Boge 3.0 in my case, I find I can keep a decent supply of them on hand for example. With that cartomizer, being able to adjust the voltage just a few tenths of a volt can completely make or break the flavor of the juice.

As far as ego batteries go, I've had good quality ones last for multiple months, and some that didn't make it through a week without having issues. Decent quality ego batteries really should last more than a month, yet to be perfectly honest, some do, and some do not. I had 4 of them last me for 6 months or so, that I no longer have, and they still worked, when I gave them away.

Yet another honest fact is that I've found, that I prefer the same wattage at standard resistance than the same wattage at low resistance, its just a better vape to me. Your mileage may very in this regard.

I would have probably skipped 3.7 volt vaping completely if I'd known then what I know now, but then once again, your mileage may very in that regard also. My girlfriend cannot stand what I usually have my varivolt device set at for my taste, as it hits to hard for her, go figure.

P.S. As I'm writing this the Varivolt box mod is actually cheaper there as it is on sale. If you get it in black.

The sweet spot for me is my eGo or long 510 autos with a 2.5ohm CE2 depending on the juice it produces tons of vapor and flavor. I could see myself using higher volts on some days though as baromec pressure and humidity play a part in how much vapor plus on the occasional day I could use a bit more but it's not the norm. Usually on those days I can satisfy myself with a juice that has a stronger throat hit though.

On a side note even though sites claim li-ion batteries last 100-200 charges the low side for charge cycles for them is 400. I think they say 100-200 to be on the safe side..in part probably because they know people won't charge their batteries correctly..plus other things failing like the switch or electronics.

I suspect that a lot of times other things fail in the bigger mAh batteries before the battery itself but I haven't had one of my 6month+ old (I use them so lightly that the plating is wearing off exposing the copper lmao) eGo's fail yet to know 1st hand. Eventually all 3 will fail and I will have a better idea.

I needed nicotine, I needed throat hit, dont we all :2cool:

Here is the first problem in the ecig world. 90% of the products are junk, 90% of the products are the same, just repackaged, 90% of the products will drive you right back to the store for a pack of smokes due to serious frustration with cheap chinese junk.

Smokes are the most reliable form of smoking on the planet.

IF you REALLY want to quit smoking, you absolutely MUST have a reliable device, simple, no nonsense.

...

Amen to this. For me, the psychological factor was to biggest thing to overcome. When I decided to quit, I knew that I couldn't "merge" into e-cigs, it had to be all or nothing. I made sure that I had a ready supply of batteries, cartomizers, atomizers, tanks and juice. I spent about $250 on startup but have a plentiful supply available now. I'm not even a month into full vaping and no analogs but ecigs have given me a hobby/habit to replace my smoking habit.

Kudos to ECF and all who contribute. Although there is a plethora of recommendations as to the "best" device combos, I was able to easily glean what I wanted to try.

EVERYONE has different vaping needs. I still don't think I can vape that mod box 120 foot up in the air hands free while doing tower work. However I am going to look at one of those locally this weekend (something similar) and we'll see how it goes for while at home or not doing the hands free thing.

A couple THE SD KEY RING E-CIG BY TROG (510 threaded) Might be the answer for you when you're up a tower..they are around 300mAh and have a keyring-lanyard where you could attach it to something. The one that comes on it stock look a bit weak though so I would tie it to something better. I'm planning on getting a couple sometime. I wish they sold just the battery though.

What are the advantages of having a box mod?

One advantage for some people is for the price, it will get the job done at a reasonable cost. In my case, a box mod can make for a terrific backup if something ever did happen to my daily device where it wouldn't work unless it was repaired. I hope to not have to experience that any time soon of course.

That's not the only advantage, but it is an obvious one.

I think the first thing any new person has to know is themselves. What kind of person are you? Do you have patience? Do you like to tinker? Do you like things to work perfectly right out of the box? Are you a careless person who needs a sturdy ecig? Do you care what anyone thinks of your ecig? Do you like to try lots of new things, or do you stay with something that works for you? Are you firmly committed to vaping? All these things play a huge part in the PV and accessories you will be happy with, and make it very hard for anyone to pick the perfect PV for someone else.

I knew I didn't have any patience and prefer the easy simple way. I become very frustrated/irritated if something doesn't work just as I think it should, right out of the box. I knew I would be vaping for a very long time and chose my PV and accessories accordingly. I skipped all the intermediate steps and bought what I knew would work for me based on my personality, and purchased PVs and accessories that would work perfectly and immediately, and would not require me to fuss with them.

Deciding what kind of person you are and what you require in a PV and accessories will make the initial selection much easier and keep you happier much longer, thus saving you money in the long run.
