Now, the analog doesn’t taste so great, either, but it’s still better than the vapour.

I’m not sure whether it’s the difference in taste between U.S. and Canadian tobacco flavours (I’m smoking Canadian Rothman’s Red and vapeing U.S. “Kamel”), or if I just don’t happen to like the tobacco-flavoured juice. I’m not ready to give up yet, and am already thinking I should order some unflavoured cartridges.**

Regardless, I’m glad I ordered cartomizers rather than trying to fill little cartridges while I’m learning this stuff.

Anyway, just wanted to post to follow up on my previous “newbie angst”. Thanks for “listening”! :)
Port,

Welcome aboard, everyday vaping is a good day.

I started off with Safe Cig and cartomizers. I had a ..... of a time in the beginning and didn't care for their carts. 3 flavours, tobacco, marlboro and menthol. Hummm. My reviewThey are now my back up system

I got me a 510 and usb direct passthru, wow! lot's of flexibility. Until I got my 510 I was still smoking 5-8 cigs a day, because of what you have described. I have been "smoke free" since 10 am Monday.

Tuesday morning was the big trial for me, normally 2 cigs with my morning coffee. I hit the 510 passthru with a tobacco flavour that wasn't bad yuck, yuck. This isn't working out. The day before I dripped some RY4 on my 510 and oooooh that was nice. So I tailpiped 6-10 goos hits of RY4 at 24 mgs and got a good buzz. Yeah, that did it. I switch to 18 mg whatever for the rest of the day. I am using safe cig less and less at home, only when I go out. Did the same this morning and haven't touched an analog since.

Today I got my mixing supplies. I made a batch of menthol cigs, pretty darn close to Craven Menthols. It's posted here. I have spent the last 2 weeks reading/researching etc... apparently no one seems to have a good menthol recipe. Well not bragging (yes I am) this one is close, oh so close, cool and refreshing like menthol is supposed to taste like, not like mint, peppermint, spearmint etc... The finish is nice and long.

Canadian and American tobacco flavours are extremely different. I am using Northern vapour tobacco in my mix. I'm not sure what it is. I hope I will be able to duplicate it.

It is a learning curve no doubt, but don't be too quick to dismiss 3 part systems as being complicated, they are not. Mixing your own is also not as complicated as it seems either, and it is the cheapest way to vape, bar none.

Welcome portwest!

I'm still a relative noob too, and like you couldn't quite wrap my head around the whole "flavored" juice idea. I was frustrated, dissatisfied and desperate to find a true Canadian tasting juice.

Then the heavens opened and down came Rob from vapables.com!! He sells an awesome DuMaurier clone he cleverly named 'Do More Eh' LOL So I ordered some and it was wonderful... it so resembles the true DuMaurier I was shaking my head for the first day of vaping it in disbelief - couldn't believe that I was vaping Do More Eh and not smoking the real thing.

Rob has a great selection of all different flavors... tobacco, fruit, menthol, drink etc. and let me tell you.... the customer service was excellent and poor Rob put up with my tedious, newbie questions, always replying within minutes of my emails and always so accommodating and polite.

My purchase arrived in 3 business days. And y'know... this whole wacky flavored nicotine thing? Well one poster said something that really hit home with me... she said no longer seeks out juices that resemble the tobacco flavor of the analogs she once smoked because she finds the taste of her old smokes disgusting now and she has no interest in inhaling that taste anymore now that she's a non-smoker and a pro-vaper.

So I now love Black cherry, Peppermint, Chocolate, Cappuccino etc LOL

So if you want my recommendation check out vapables too... Rob will take great care of you and they know their juice because that's the only vape supply they sell.

Good to have you on board!

That sums it up in a nutshell, especially first thing in the morning :thumb:

Wow, y’all have blown me away with your kind support.

BornAgainst, you’ve just been so darned helpful to me. I really appreciate it. I would like to try the COOL --- but only if I can reimburse you for the product and postage.

Switched, when I read this . . .

. . . My jaw went kinda slack and I squinted my eyes. Um, passthrus, dripping and tailpiping?!?

I do appreciate all that you wrote about flavours, Switched. Good to know there’s hope for me yet. As for a passthru, I got one with my starter kit but I haven’t played with it. I’m not entirely sure of the advantage, other than being able to vape while sitting at my laptop, but I’m kinda slow, so maybe I’m missing something.

Guineahill and WhitMar, I just can’t see myself fussing and filling the cartomizers --- not yet, anyway. I’m sure I’ll eventually come around, but I need to feel more confident about this whole thing before I even consider trying.

BornAgainst, Switched, Guineahill, Whitmar, SkySpider, Gixer and Sheep: Thank you again for encouraging this clumsy newbie stumbling through the starting process. :)

The most important thing around here for me, and I am sure most others is to quit smoking analogs...lol.

Cost of sending a few carts? 75 cents? Don't worry about it....perhaps you will end up with some carts that I want down the road. Consider it part of a potential future trade.

:)

Sorry about that Portwest, most learn the lingo rather quickly I know I had to ;), it becomes secong nature in no time, trust me.

I checked your kit out and no wonder I left you scratching your head. Have a look at the Joy510 atomizer (atty), it is enclosed in a cylinder. You drop one or two drops on the bridge of the atomizer, smoking it that way is known as "tailpiping", just like sucking on the muffler of your car. Because the surrounding body of the atty gets hot, the term was developed.

When you add an empty cartridge (read no batting) to your atty, it's called dripping. The latter 2 methods are good when mixing juices as you want the taste of the juice and not have it masked by the batting, some battings do this.

When vaping with your passthru you get more vapour because the voltage from your PC is higher. That is on direct passthrus, those that have an in line battery are not "direct" passthrus. The voltage you receive is from the battery and not your PC, all your PC is doing is maintaining the battery charge. Your by the looks of things is a direct passthru. Therefore you should be getting a better taste and more vapour.

The problems as stated earlier with prefilled carts, you are limited in your selection. That is why most switch sooner or later, and most is sooner than later. If it wasn't for my 510, I think I would not be vaping as much.

That’s okay, Switched. It was true that I was mouth-breathing and squinting when I read your words, but I was laughing when I typed about it. (I appreciate the explanations!)

I’m quickly becoming obsessed with this stuff. I’ve already ordered more cartomizers and a mini pcc kit, and have been looking around a bit to see if I can figure out how I might painlessly refill cartridges someday.

It looks like you take apart the cartridge, drop a small amount of juice around the inside edges and re-assemble. (Have I got that right?)

Nope!

I have a 3 part system comprising of a battery, an atomizer and a cartridge.

Sex 101. The atomizer is the female genitalia, and the cart is the male genitalia. One goes inside the other...

Inside the atomiser is where the bridge of the atomizer is located, at the bottom towards the battery end. You drop a drop or two directly on the atomizer or the cervix in sex 101.

Now I hope you are not vaping as you read this :D

One of the most entertaining descriptions of a Joye 510 I have ever read! And it describes it all so well!

Your probably going to want to just by the e-juice and drip. Its not as hard as you would think. Not even close. But E-puffer sells the pre-filled carts. I live in T.O and got my shipment from them in two days when I ordered there. They have the same models to my knowledge as everywhere else but they give their e-cigs different names.
--I would recommend going for a penstyle personally. I tried an e-cig that looked like an analog and I quickly made the switch. Just trying to save you some time and money.--
