Day 2: Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring. This stuff vapes like a dream. Next stop IGO-L.

How does it compare to silica? I saw the picture of your nextel set up and decided to try it using silica on one of my gennies....My did clone never vaped better. I am just trying to figure out the advantages of Nextel vs silica.

I too was curious: for a comparison to the fancy imported German braided silica. As far as the regular stuff goes, I'm not the guy to ask. That's why I'm doing all this talking. ;). Structurally, it HAS structure. Flavor wise, it has zero. I think it wicks mo betta (goes back to structure, methinks). And I'm betting it holds up way better. BUT, what do I know?

Well, so I said that I wasn't too big on "U"-wicks. That leaves the rest of the alphabet, tho, right? I couldn't resist making something; so here's an "O"-wick. 26 Kanthal, braided ceramic rope (of course), maybe .8~.9Ω.

It's about 1.1Ω in the pix. I dropped about a wrap-and-a-half since.

This stuff is great, so far. Flavor, of course, is spot on and full. The vapor also has an intensity (brightness and nose-tingle) that I associate with both purity and super efficient steam generation . . . . . meaning, probably, a very good balance of liquid quantity vs. heat sink . . . . . meaning, I can have a lot of liquid available to the coil without the wick material bogging things down.

I've been lurking here for awhile...Have you kept the double head wick, or have you moved on from that completely? It seems the easiest set up to try so far.

Have the double head, still. This was my other AGA. The double head works great! Haven't thought about re-coiling, tho; When you cut this stuff, it unbraids for the first 1/2". I have nextel in my dripper now, too. So, if nothing else; I can pull the AGA wick (someday) and re-use it in a dripper (thereby not wasting $1 worth of wick) ;)

If you are worried about it unraveling you can use some pices of thread or even a bit of wire to tie around each side of where you are going to cut it. Once its installed you can remove the thread or wire holding the end together and let it fray - that might increase wicking if it needs it. Or just leave it. I havent used my nextel in a long time though this thread is making me want to bust some out and if I have to cut it I will be preping the ends this way first.
If you dont follow what I am saying the technique is also used to finish the ends of rope its know as whipping or whip finishing but in this instance you dont need any special knotts or such and you would tie off two spots close together and then cut it between them rather then doing it after cutting like you would with rope. HTH ;)

Thanks! Yeah, I've been putting little ss mesh collars on the ends, for storage, management and passing through wick holes. When I'm done, like you said, I just slide off the collar and wrap it around the end of the remaining bulk cord.

edit: Your thinking, with a little thread to hold it, I imagine I could re-gather a used wick tip, build and leave the bit of thread. The ss collar works well in that I wrap it on the body of the rope, then slide it over to cover the end; but it would get in the way of RE-building one of these "J"-wicks. (Oh, that's 2 letters I've got now)

edit: OK, I see, it's like a repeated 1/2-hitch. very cool.

SnG Vapor was referred to in the linked thread at the beginning of this one (so you missed it if you didn't click on it): SnG Vapor
Omega is another source: Nextel Braided Ceramic Very High Temperature Sleeving

I placed an order for Nextel XC-116 over the weekend from Omega. They called me this morning and asked what I was using it for and I told them the truth. They said it is to be used for industrial purposes only and said they would not sell it to me and cancelled my order :(
