Is the $3k tax per liter an arbitrary number? How did they come up with such an absurd amount?
It's $2780 tax per liter, plus say $45 for the nic, so about $2825/liter... @UncleJunkle was exaggerating with the 3k by rounding up $175. (exaggerating... lol at that price, what is $175 anyway?) Of course, if your state adds tax, it could be over $3k.

I read somewhere that they priced it out so that the price of a Juul would be similar to a pack of smokes.

Whether they vote on a tax this Thursday or not, they will be voting on a ban on onlines sales. If they ban online sales, that would still pose a big problem regardless of the cost of the nic.
You should edit the title one more time then to include "& Online Sales Ban".

I was going to, but I can't anymore. You only have so many hours to edit posts and titles. That's why I made the post about HR2339 above instead of adding it to the OP.

Doesn't matter anyhow because low_tar_leil started a call to action thread about HB2339 in the and Competitions and Broadcasts forum, which is cross linked in the General Forum with a nice bright red "CALL TO ACTION" tag, so very visible to all.

ECF needs a Call To Action top bar. Pretty sure that would be super easy to activate as Xenforo probably has one built-in or someone probably made a cheap or free plugin.

You could just ask @classwife to do it for you, she's nice and does not bite. ;)

I would, I just don't think it's necessary since the other thread is more visible and serves the same purpose.

Whatever gets people to pay attention and act, that's all that matters. That's why I changed my title to make if sound, well, as bad as it sounds :D

While I don't think this bill will pass as it stands, keep in mind it is a death of 1000 cuts scenario. There will likely be some sort of bipartisan agreement passed that will impact pricing here and there at some point in the near future because the "lobby gonna lobby." About the best thing you can do is contact your reps and stock up in the mean time.

After 5 years, I'm finally down to my last 100 mils of nic base from my initial 1 liter bottle of 100mg so I'll be ordering another liter or 2 tonight for the freezer to be on the safe side.

Further regulation will come. So, as we say in the gun hobbiest community, buy it cheap and stack it deep.

Is the $3k tax per liter an arbitrary number? How did they come up with such an absurd amount?

The number comes from this proposed tax rate which is a per mg tax of .0278

In a liter of 100mg/ml nicotine base that equals $2,780.00 in tax:

there shall be imposed a tax equal to the dollar amount specified in section 5701(b)(1) (or, if greater, $50.33) per 1,810 milligrams of nicotine (and a proportionate tax at the like rate on any fractional part thereof)

There are 100,000 mg of nicotine in a liter of 100mg/ml base.

The number comes from a former proposal that proposed a per mg tax of .0278

In a liter of 100mg/ml nicotine base that equals $2,780.00 in tax.

Here's my question - are they still using that figure? Or are they using a different rate:

Looks like they are still using that rate, as you can see in the HR4742 link I posted. I did hear there was another proposal sent to the senate (about double the tax), but I don't know anything about that one.

there shall be imposed a tax equal to the dollar amount specified in section 5701(b)(1) (or, if greater, $50.33) per 1,810 milligrams of nicotine (and a proportionate tax at the like rate on any fractional part thereof)

So I'd have to look at the numbers deeper, to see what this proposal actually figures out to... this seems different than the former proposal..

There are 100,000 mg of nicotine in a liter of 100mg/ml base.

    $50.33 per 1810mg = 0.0278 cents/mg

    So...
    100 mg = $2.78 tax per 100mg of nic
    "100mg" nic base = 100mg/ml
    1 liter = 1,000ml
1 liter of 100mg/ml nic base = 100,000mg of nic in the whole liter.

    Therefore...
    100,000mg x $0.0278 = $2,780 tax per liter of 100mg/ml nic base.

    $50.33 per 1810mg = 0.0278 cents/mg

    So...
    100 mg = $2.78 tax per 100mg of nic
    "100mg" nic base = 100mg/ml
    1 liter = 1,000ml
1 liter of 100mg/ml nic base = 100,000mg of nic in the whole liter.

    Therefore...
    100,000mg x $0.0278 = $2,780 tax per liter of 100mg/ml nic base.

Yeah I figured it out and edited, I just posted before I calculated.. lol.

    Somewhere out there
I'm rather depressed right now. I moved not that long ago and didn't check who's in the house from this district until now. Turns out he's one of the anti-vape ringleaders. He's all but said he doesn't give a fig for adult ex-smokers. It's only "for the children"

Bloomberg needs to retire to his mansion and F-off. I can’t stand a-holes that think they know what’s best for everyone else. Mike don’t want us armed because he doesn’t see the need for it. No home invasions in his hood. I despise this ..... more than words can express. I don’t think he has a chance to become president but it worries me because anything is possible. Oh and I just picked up another liter of 100mg/ml nicotine that I’ve been waiting for a sale to purchase but with this unsettling news I figure I’d feel better if it was in my freezer already. Thanks to the good work our member Rossum has done, I know my base will stay unoxidized and fresh for years in the freezer.

The problem is, there is already bipartisan agreement for the most part and given the current climate around vaping I think this actually has a very good chance to pass just the way it is... they just want to get "something" through and fast.

Hardware is like vape equipment, you sort of have to have it to shoot someone.

But an empty gun, well, nic is like ammo. Balance your need for both and do it quickly. Because there's nothing worse than an empty gun. Well, there probably are but you know what I mean.

I'm not bothering with congress anymore. I don't think it's worth my time. They will do what they will do, and I will do what I will do.

BUT I am FINALLY gonna order my fumytech glass today. that is for sure.
