I have had Costochondritis type pains in my chest for over 6 months now. At first, it felt so much like you would think of heart-attack type stuff, but after seeing a cardiologist and having several tests done, they claim they ruled out cardiovascular issues completely. They get worse and get better at times, but it has yet to go away. I'm trying to determine if it was related to my usage of my vaporizer on Variable Wattage mode with a nickel coil or not.
Have you mentioned to any doctor that you could have inhaled Nickel? If so what did they say?

Unfortunately, no. At the time these tests were run, I was uncertain of the cause. I'm not saying for sure Nickel did this, because I have some other health issues.

Can you describe in much more detail what you have experienced and what happened to you? Also, where is the pain? How would you describe it? And it's causing you to vomit even after discontinuing use? How long has it been? Are you sure it was the Nickel?

Anyway, I hope it there is nothing serious for both of us and wish you luck for the other health issues you have

Well, it's good you aren't having heart attacks or anything. I don't know what specialist one would visit after a fear of nickel poisoning, a toxicologist?

I am really really doubtful that one could get a health condition from short term use (even if sort of longer short term use) but there are many other things that could cause this, like indigestion (some people get that from swallowing too much e-liquid, not purposefully but from flooding or spitback) and I have had gas pains that made me feel like I was having a heart attack, but that's not exactly new.

I think the issue is going to be separating relative risks from a human being's natural tendency to catastrophize or assume any "bad" change going on (sometimes psychosomatic) to whatever risky thing they did. I'm not saying it's not real, I'm not saying don't get it checked out, and obviously, stop vaping nickel in wattage mode, but unless it were happening for decades (or unless one were very sensitive to nickel) well.... I'd mention it to docs, and maybe start a symptom tracker, I'm just saying

a) probably not the nickel (though I'm not a doctor) and for sure stop vaping in wattage mode
b) absolutely, get checked out by doctors until you find the cause, symptoms go away or both
c) my doubts about poisoning are related to time frame vaping and amount vaped, the body is designed to process poisons and toxins, for example I have been bit twice by brown recluses, and neither time did I die, OR get any major issues from it, but I did identify what the bite was, and seek treatment. I was pretty anxious about it the WHOLE time until after I was well, but the body is designed to handle toxins generally, so unless the dose curve was over decades, not weeks or months, I'm not entirely sure that it can all be attributed to nickel. Though, yes, see a doctor, I am not one, and etc.

Cigarettes also have toxic, heavy metals. I used to smoke Basics in college, and their slogan is, "Enjoy Basics, with the taste of heavy metals!" I smoked them because they were cheap, but they always tasted like toxic heavy metals to me. I smoked enough of them (along with my roommate) to darken the shades of paint several degrees in our dorm room (although ours was the party dorm room, to be fair, we weren't the only ones smoking in there). So, my cigarettes could permanently stain paint, I'm fairly sure they weren't healthy, I also experienced 0 health related issues as a result.... Not for many, many decades. I mean, it took over 20 years (and by the end I was a 3 ppd smoker) for me to really develop serious enough health issues to switch to vaping.... I'm just saying....

I agree with most folks who are saying it is unlikely that vaping a nickel coil in wattage mode for even a couple of months is going to cause detectable harm, although I think if worried/concerned well, take it up with a doctor. I would imagine most doctors would rule it "inadvisable" but probably not likely to suddenly cause a huge, major health issue, I really am doubtful.

Not unless you go to one of them "naturopaths" or something. Who, in AZ, can be PCPs, like they BILL your health insurance. But I think most rational doctors would rule such an "unconscious" health risk to be minor on the grand scheme of things.

However, I will say again I am not one, but I am a pretty firm believer in the terms "dose dependent" and also, "Here you stand before me, you are alive, feeling a bit sketched out, but sure we can do a chest X-ray if you want" and etc.

I still think a toxicologist would be the person to see. They STUDY that stuff, and if I were in a similar situation, that is probably what I would do. I tend not to freak as much as when I was new to e-cigs, I think it's our media, the whole "thing" that happens when you detox and it just feels weird, I could see freaking myself out about it, although I don't think it's necessary. If I vaped on a nickel coil for a while, I'd probably decide that (unless I had threatening health systems) to wait a bit, before even attempting any serious assessment, unless I felt like I was having breathing issues or something....

Best of luck you guys,

Anna

Now when I have a medical concern I always go to a place where there are no medical professions. Note most of these responses begin with something such as, "I am not a doctor but..."
I'm not a doctor but, I really liked that post.:toast:
