I've been eying those 1xAA boxes at madvapes for a while, and finally got around to ordering one to play with. It was a tiny bit trickier to work with due to the narrow space on the side, but it came together all right in the end. Other than being careful to get a button that is slim enough (the button w/ LED that I wanted to use was too wide), the only issue is that the hole for the atty connector overlaps the positive battery terminal a bit. Drilling it out isn't a problem, but you end up drilling a sliver out of the terminal plate itself, and the outside of the connector (the ground) is then touching it. The easy thing to do would be to just reverse the polarity on the connector (center-ground, outside-positive), but I did it the hard way. I cut about 1/8 inch off the side of the terminal, removed the plastic brackets that hold it in, and just super-glued the plate to the box.

A 901 connector, violet LED and a black pushbutton round out the build. Not bad for less than $6 in parts from madvapes.

Sweet! You're right, that is a tight fit but you really did a good job of getting everything in place. If you are still concerned about any contact at all between the atty connector and battery terminal, just mix up a little 2-part epoxy and carefully dab some between the two with the tip of a toothpick a little at a time until you build up a good "shield" of epoxy between the two. That way it's just one less thing to worry about.

Great job!

i didnt know you could reverse polarity on the connector. so that means the atty doesn't care which is which? the atty is like a resistor right so it has no + and -? i know. i know nothing.
That's right. Atomizers are not polarity specific, and reversing the polarity is fine is something like this, because of the plastic body. The only thing to consider is if you have the body of the device carrying current and the outside ring of the atomizer carrying an opposite charge, you have a good chance of shorting out the device. It's relatively easy for a random piece of metal to bridge the circuit by touching both the body and the outside ring of the atomizer.

thanks, boondongle! in this case it'd be better of switching polarity on the battery holders, right?
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by switching polarity on the battery holders. Changing the orientation of the battery will switch polarity for the whole device. The battery connectors are basically just part of the wire, which can work in either direction. Or were you saying to swap the positioning of the battery connectors inside the case to make reversing the battery easier?

yes to that!
if you had the negative on top close to the atty connector it wouldnt matter if they were touching touching. or have i misunderstood the whole thing (as i usually do)?

If you have the negative battery plate at the "top" (the same side you have the atomizer connected to) and the metal of the plate is touching the outside metal ring of the atomizer connector, that shouldn't be a problem as long as it's not also connected to the center pin of the atomizer connector. In fact, this is how I usually set things up, wiring the atomizer connector to the metal plate directly, so I don't need extra wire.
