nicotine & "drug" testing

I know that some places (Cleveland Clinic for one) is a smoke free work place and they started 'drug' testing for it. I believe a nurse told me that the stuff like gum and lozenges won't show up on those tests.

I was wondering if vaping would show up on those types of tests?

Does anyone work in a place that tests?

I don't believe many smokefree worplaces "drug test" for nicotine. The closest thing to this is in situations in which the insurance premium is lower for non smokers or people who quit. In this situation, non-smoking status is sometimes verified by taking a biological sample (e.g. blood, saliva or urine) and analyzing it for the concentration of cotinine. Cotinine is the main nicotine metabolite, and has a half-life of around 20 hours. This means that any use of a nicotine delivery product (tobacco, nicotine replacement therapy, e-cigs) in the previous 3-5 days may show up as a positive on the test.

If anyone has heard of testing for anything other than cotinine, I would be interested in hearing about it.

I wonder what the legal recourse might be for someone who vapes and works at a place that has such a draconian smoke free policy.
