I chew about 6-8 pieces of nicotine gum per day. I have noticed that sometimes when I have the gum in my mouth that I get a tickle at the back of my throat and start this dry cough.

Taking a drink of liquid helps, as does spitting out the gum.

Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this.

This happens with all nicotine products designed for mouth absorption -- snus, Stonewall, Nicorette, etc. Sometimes, a hit of nicotine will wash into the throat and cause a muscle spasm. This same spasm is the "throat hit" of the upper airways that some smokers crave. It usualy passes quickly.

Nasal snuff, if inhaled too deeply, will run down into the throat and likewise set off a coughing spasm.

2mg gum doesn't cause as much irritation and coughing as the 4mg gum.
I really despise that stuff - It's all made by one manufacturer and they also make it house label like in Boots Nic assist gum.
Worse than the coughing is the aching jaw muscles, but then I was never a gum muncher. It's a disgusting habit if you ask me. But smoking was worse...and vaping still leaves a reek in the air. Glad I quit that too.
