It has to be you would not want 100% pure nicotine. When you buy your nic you have a choice of strength and with pg or vg. When you look at the nic that is mg/ml so 100 mg/ml is only 10mg/ml 48 mg/ml is 4.8 mg/ml etc.

I apologize I made this confusing. It should be.Nicotine Strengths

We're often asked exactly what 12mg or 24mg strengths mean for nicotine. In short, it's the amount of nicotine in milligrams, for each milliliter of eliquid, expressed as mg/mL. Some companies choose to represent this as a percent per solution, which is where you'll see 1.2% instead of 12mg/mL. This means the same thing, just interpreted differently.

Could anyone please answer a question im stuck on please?

When buying supplies to DIY your liquid im confused by the nicotine solution

I need my diluents, PG & VG and my flavouring... i get that.

But why does the nicotine solution also come in PG or VG?
First they have to disolve it into some type of base. And since ecig users are using the pg/vg in their ejuices it needs to be mixed anyhow. Go to the DIY section and start reading.

100 mg/ml is a 10% solution. 60 mg/ml is a 6% solution. 48 mg/ml is a 4.8% solution. Etc....

Whichever you buy, you always need to dilute it further to your desired nic strength. So if you want 18 mg/ml, then you are diluting it further to 1.8%. Or if you want 6 mg/ml then you are diluting further to .6%.

The nic solutions come in either PG or VG so you can choose your ending proportion of PG/VG in your juice. Someone who wants a 100% VG solution would buy their nic in VG.

I want a 70/30 pg/vg end result. I also want 18mg/ml.

I purchase 100mg/ml nicotine in PG.

So if I am making a 30ml bottle of unflavored juice, I use:

5.4ml of nic solution - this gets me to 18mg/ml
9ml of VG - this gets me the 30% of vg
15.6ml PG - this fills the rest of the 30ml bottle

If I wanted all VG, I would purchase 100mg/ml in VG and to get 30ml bottle of 18mg juice I would use:
5.4ml of the nic solution
24.6ml of VG

I've seen one on vapeescape, vape 54mg 50% PG 50% VG

So, when calculating my ratio of PG VG diluent do I ignore the already added PG VG from the nicotine?

No, but you would have to acct for your %of flavor. So if your flavor is mixed with pg(and most already are) then you would want to add that same amt of flavor ratio back in with pg or you can use a little more vg. That is why a lot of ejuice companies that sell unflavored nic will do it for you. You can order x amt of already mixed 24mg/ml 50pg/50vg. and just add your flavor and a little of extra pg/vg. They have taken a lot of the risky part of the equation onto them selves for safety reasons.
Hope this helps.

Have you looked up some calculators? ejuicemeup is a good one. You put in the mg and the PG/VG % of the nic solution you are starting with, then the mg and the pg/vg % you want to end with , and it tells you how much of each to use.

I think a more accurate warning when DIY'ing, would be to wear proper chemical resistant gloves if you buy the 100 mg/ml dilution. Getting a drop or two of nicotine, even at that level, is not going to kill you. If you're a pack a day+ smoker (or were), you probably took in quite a bit more nicotine than what those 2-3 drops will provide if it has time to absorb through your skin. Just wash your hands if you get it on you - this applies to all levels.

Yes, Nicotine is a poison, so it should be treated as such, but it's not on the same level as dropping sulfuric acid on your hands. Some people just get a little too bent up about it. The chances of a chemical burn, unless your skin is extremely sensitive (i.e. soap breaks you out), a few drops won't hurt.

Ultimately, if you're going the DIY route, you need a few things. These are my must-haves:

- 3x Syringes + Extras **
- - 1x for Nicotine Only, 1x for PG and 1x for VG + ? for flavors (I have about 5-10 I alternate through and clean in rotation).

- 1x Box of Nitrile Gloves
- - You can get them at Walmart and Walgreens. They're labeled non-sterile.
- - Non-Sterile doesn't mean they're bad, it just means they're not suited for surgical use. For DIY, they're fine.

- Amber or Blue Glass Bottles for 30-100 ml mixes
- - I find they work better and keep light out, thus keeping flavor in on darker juices.

- Plastic Bottles (5-15 ml) w/ Eye Dropper / Drop Tips

- Plastic Lids for Plastic Bottles
- - Most companies sell them together, but some don't.

** Getting syringes can be a PITA. Many pharmacies are doing to require a prescription, so check and see if the dealer you're getting your DIY stuff from sells them and buy about 10. 16-18 gauge work best.
