New report from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (a part of the US Centers for Disease Control):
Promoting Health and Preventing Disease and Injury Through Workplace tobacco Policies

As always, the arch-fiend Jonathan M. Samet, a ringleader of every Surgeon General report since the 1980s (and of most of the "independent" [sic] reports on secondhand smoke), first chairman of the scientific committee of the FDA committee on tobacco who resigned just a few weeks ago amidst a cloud of conflict of interest charges, has his fingerprints all over it, see page 20.

http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2015-113/pdfs/cib-67_2015-113_v5.pdf

It's the usual recitation of lies and defamations founded on the deliberate scientific fraud that the Surgeon General gang has gotten away with for six decades - falsely blaming smoking for diseases that are really caused by infection. And e-cigs are sucked along under the pretext that "It is plausible that personal use of ENDS and even secondhand exposure to ENDS aerosol will also lead to adverse long-term health effects," for which they're deceiving the public with the same kinds of fraud that they committed against tobacco.

They smugly proclaim that "this CIB is aimed not just at preventing occupational injury and illness related to tobacco use, but also at improving the general health and well-being of workers." In other words, NIOSH has now been turned into yet another tool for the Nazi true believers to tyrannize over every detail of workers' personal lives. See that smarmy slogan, "Tobacco-Free for Total Worker Health™."

We can "thank" Obama plus every single member of the United States Congress, because NOT ONE of them has protested this outrageous expansion of the government, ever. Each and every one of them has conspired to betray the peoples' liberties, that it was supposed to be the purpose of this government to protect, and sold us out to be the slaves of the corporations. Listen to the treasonous NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard and his overt goal to subordinate the rights of the workers to the greed of corporations: "Earlier this year, NIOSH and its partners introduced the Total Worker Health program. This is our vision for identifying and promoting integrated health programs in the workplace and recognizing the multitude of factors that influence a person’s health, safety, ability to work, and well-being in every aspect of their lives. It recognizes that greater advances can be made by addressing the individual’s health and safety holistically-by eliminating hazards at work while also using the workplace as a platform for healthy life choices—than by looking at work and personal life in isolation." (NIOSH's Howard: Tear down the company fence; build Total Worker Health programs. Statement by NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard. ISHN Magazine, Nov. 9, 2011.)

Samet and his ilk do not work for Big Pharma. Big Pharma pays tribute to them. Samet's agenda is the war of cultural genocide against smokers, not peddling pharmaceuticals. It's as stupid as pretending that ISIS kills smokers to help sell quit-smoking crap - really, phenomenally clueless. We are at war against fanatics and ideologues, and the incapacity to identify the enemy's real nature helps them get away with it. Going around bashing "Big Pharma" is nothing but a waste of time.

Well, at least there's substantiation for attacking Pharma conflicts of interests, as linked above. Attacks based on unsubstantiated ideological differences tend to fall flat on their faces as ad hominems...

I'm not saying you're incorrect, CarolT, just that I think our arguments carry more weight when accompanied by evidence. And there's no evidence as to what Samet or any other ANTZ internal motives might be...

I agree. Their personal motivations are really irrelevant; in America one is free to BELIEVE whatever one likes -- but BP has latched onto these ideologues like a big fat moneysucking leech, to inspire the laws and regulations that best suit THEM. The ideologues are too blinded by hatred and self-delusions of grandeur to realize they have a big fat leech on their back, because the leech lets just enough of that money flow back to the ideologues to make them feel necessary, and hopefully to poison them with love of that money. It's a huge, vile corruption machine, which the "politically correct" ideology helps perpetrate.

Your "evidence" is laughable. It is a historical fact that the anti-smoking persecution began long before there was any "Big Pharma" peddling quit-smoking crap, way back in the 1950s. So you're expecting people to believe that they began promoting products decades before they even had any. EPIC FAIL. That's an outright launch-pad fail, because that's not how marketing campaigns work. Also, very few pharmaceutical companies carry those products, and even among those that do, they are a trifling proportion of their business.

The major part of Pharma's concerns are with the FDA, and relate to the efficacy of their particular products. Clinical trials are the methodology they use, not epidemiological studies. These are of extremely different natures, in case you didn't know. The pharmaceutical companies actually have a reason to care what really causes diseases, because then a treatment may be found to prevent or treat them. And this requires yet another kind of study, namely laboratory studies. This would be more profitable than persecuting smokers for the sake of getting money from that tiny percentage who even bother to use quit-smoking products. Less than 5% used a nicotine patch, less than 2% used prescription drugs, and less than 1% used nicotine gum (Gallup 2013).

Meanwhile the anti-smokers' actions convey volumes about their ideological basis. Their fraudulent studies are based primarily on lifestyle questionnaires, and systematically minimize or ignore altogether the role of infection. They are not scientific in nature because real science requires that they rule out other potential explanations - with actual discussion of that evidence, not just a declaration of their certainty or a touch-and-run.

As for ad hominems, that is exactly what that "Big Pharma" garbage is, and that's all it is. Most ridiculous of all is the presumed belief that if you succeed in chasing everybody with connections to Big Pharma off the FDA committee, then things will actually change! That is breathtakingly clueless.

But who is propping up all those hate-filled anti-smokers?

Big Pharma. All those so-called "charitable" orgs that keep popping out the bogus science... who's paying for that bogus science? Big Pharma. All those hate-filled anti-smokers are going where the money is -- BIG PHARMA.

And why exactly is it that BP is spending all these huge sums to finance the haters and their bogus science? Why, because BP stands to earn BILLIONS from NRT that doesn't work, and then since it doesn't work, all those meds for cancer, for COPD, for every other ailment caused EVEN SLIGHTLY by smoking.

It's all about the money. If any of those haters were to discover a way to make the same money while promoting e-cigs... they'd be on e-cigs like white on rice. None of them cares one iota about ACTUAL health issues; IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

The evidence I linked is a Federal Court decision with the power of Law in USA. Nobody's stopping you from laughing at it, but that's your error, not mine.

Meanwhile your "ideology" argument sounds a lot like well... ideology. You have not yet presented anything to support your claim other than your own personal opinion.

Let me simplify: It's really nothing but theatre. An act. A charade. I say so because after they've performed their little morality play and ejected the guilty, absolutely nothing will change. Their replacements will be just like them, they will simply be cronies with no pharma connections. This is the voice of long and weary experience speaking.

Remember, this FDA committee on tobacco is the triumphant apex of six decades of deliberate, systematic scientific fraud, all commissioned by the US Congress, whose ultimate goal is to outlaw tobacco, including anything that looks like it. Or, to repeat the words of the Declaration of Independence, it has been "a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object [which] evinces a design to reduce [us] under absolute Despotism..." And the extremists have always been in the driver's seat.

Hogwash. The United States government is the source of all the hate and lies. And the US government is merely the puppet of the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, American Heart Association, the American Public Health Association (a professional group), the Harvard School of Public Health, et al. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Tobacco Free Kids etc. are their subsidiaries.

Take a look at the Cancer Society. Its gross receipts in 2013 were $1,240,454,891. Its net assets were $1,291,268,355.

And it's similar for the AHA and ALA - they reflect and purvey the ideology of the CORPORATE OLIGARCHY.

But strikingly, the pharmaceutical industry is scarcely involved! The ACS et al. actually reflect the mentality of bankster and lawyer types, who have no expertise in health-related fields!

As an example of what I said, that the new ones will be just like the old ones, here's a new one, COPYRIGHTDMCA Fagan, making stupid remarks about snus. "'I voted no because I have a problem with the word ‘substantially’ lower as it relates to all health risks,' said COPYRIGHTDMCA Fagan, an associate professor at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center. “There’s no evidence that pregnancy outcomes related to Snus would be any different than with any other tobacco product.'"

In fact, they blame smoking for perinatal illnesses that are really the result of chorioamnionitis, because their junk studies aren't properly designed to diagnose it. It's more common among poorer people for socioeconomic reasons, and smokers are more likely to be less wealthy.
