ya im not thrilled but it only takes about a hr to get back to 4.2 v so its easy for me to check it.

If you mean that the charger is actually overcharging and it's taking an hour or more for the battery voltage to drop back to 4.2 volts - that is a dangerous charger and should be replaced. Over voltage charging of Li-On batteries results in degradation of the battery anode each time it's charged - which leads to runaway venting and explosion incidents.

No I dont over charge I check as I charge and stop once it hits 4.2v, it only takes about an hr of charging to get me back to 4.2v

Can't go wrong with Rick's advice!

Review of / Measurement on Charger Xtar VP1
(the channels are truly independant)

Soshine- you can do better.
Review of / Measurement on Soshine SC-S7 Charger

thanks BigBen. i had the feeling that that shoshine charger wasnt the best. however, i am just looking for a supplementary device to test my 1yr+ cells and see if theyre worth keeping around. it would sure be nice if the Xtar tested battery capacity because i plan to purchase it. but getting the shoshine is the only solution i have found so far. ive seen no chargers that are of the same quality as the XTar/nitecore/pila tha talso test capacity. looks like i'll need two chargers, even if one id only use dto test capacity. then again im sure i could just use the batteries and see if they last an acceptable amount of time and save my $15, but i like having a definitive answer.

I just got a VP1 not too long ago when RTD had a sale on them and it is def my go - to charger.
I like the display because I know where it is in the charge cycle and where the voltage was at when I first mount the battery in it.
Neither the VP1 or the batts get warm, unlike my NiteCore i2.
I have put the NC away for emergencies.
When I get a few extra bucks to throw around I will get another VP1 :)

True about the VP1 - even my WPII 2 - my 2900 mAh Pannys don't get warm to the touch during a charge cycle. They just don't.

There's always next year, now that we know this sale is an annual event at RTD Vapor. :)
