No flavor, too much air?

I have been tired of very little flavor from my protank 2's so I bought an igo-w to try out an rda. Granted, I am not using the proper mod but I would think I should get more flavor than my protanks.

MVP V2, igo-w, 1.5ohm coil from 10 wraps 28 gauge kanthal on a 5/64 drill bit. The coils are nice and tight and glow perfectly from the inside out. Cotton wick(tried more cotton less cotton and in between), Air hole at 5/64.

I am thinking maybe it is too big of an air hole. Compared to the protanks I am making a ton of vapor but there is absolutely no flavor, no throat hit.

What do you think my issue is here? Do I just need more power or am I doing something wrong?

Without knowing more it sounds like your air hole and coil is a bit big for the watts your running. 28ga wire is thicker than the wire in your Protanks which needs more power to heat up and with that size air hole its probably muting the flavor even more.

The MVP V2 has a max output of 11 watts (less under load), RDAs with bigger diameter coils and thicker wick need more power to perform at their best. I generally run my 28ga builds in drippers at the 14w and up range and personally don't like an airy draw so my air hole is smaller than than 5/64 or 2.0mm.

For comparison when I was still using clearos I rarely if ever got above 8 watts, they just can't take the heat like and RDA.

It's all about coil position in relationship to air hole. Coil should be as close to airhole as possible imo with a 5/64 air hole. Also directly in the center of coil. If coil placement is above or below airhole it could affect flavor. Have you tried somehow covering air hole to reduce size just to see how the vape is affected?

l would honestly suggest just buying a mechanical mod clone if you want to stay cheap. This would pretty much solve all the problems. A full battery with my mod is 4.2 volts, my coils are at 0.30 resistance which gives me 58.8 Watts of power. (considering there is no voltage drop). I am running a phantom brass stingray with a hybrid adapter connecting my gold plated patriot. I worry about pushing the ohms down if you are using anything other than a mechanical mod and a safe battery. You can fine mechanical mod clones for under $50 and get a pretty decent quality device. The IGO-W is great for starters.

Just covering the air hole with my finger and drawing I don't really notice any difference. I did try lining the airhole up directly with the coil and there might an improvement but I can't really tell right now. I will do more experimenting with that.

A mech is definitely on the list of upgrades but right now I will have to keep using the MVP. I am hoping to get a mech and a dna30 in august. It is just not in the vape budget right now.

I am tired of chasing flavor. I have yet to have what I would call a flavorful vape in anything I have tried. Maybe it is just me but I am still going to keep after it. I am planning on some higher quality juice on my next order so maybe that will make a difference.

I never got along with igos, but a Magma on the MVP 2 gives plenty of flavor and vapor... the battery isn't the issue as long as you're running a single coil. Nothing against mechs, I'm looking into getting one myself, but the MVP powers single coil anything just fine as long as you build it well.

Check your build - lack of flavor usually means your coil isn't close enough to the air hole, as previously mentioned. When I build my Magma or my Krakens, my coil is as close to the air hole as I can possibly get it without touching the deck/top cap, respectively.

Yah mess around with coil position first. Up, down, and level make a big difference, and also in and out. Also if you feel the draw is too loose, search different ways to close. I had an old plastic tank in which I cut it in half so it was like a semi circle, I then snapped it over the atty. This worked pretty well and as you turned this semi circle around it covered as much as the hole as I wanted. Also you can just tape over hole then kind of punch a smaller hole in the tape. Either is temporary just to see the differences.

If you can wait for delivery, check out the Hana Modz DNA30 clone @ Fasttech. I've got the same device, that FT is offering, on the bay. Although, it has some really minor issues (not powering on after pushing the button, and occasionally reducing the setting by 0.1 Watt), I love it!
Meanwhile, I think a higher resistance coil, could do the trick on your MVP.

4 coils later, built as close to the air hole as I can get and still less flavor than my lousy protanks. What a disappointment. Back to the drawing board. This has really been frustrating. Hopefully I can stick with vaping until august when I can upgrade. The analogs are calling to me.

It really matters, what kind of coil to build for your kind of juice. Again, take a look at the coil build video tutorials of Rip Tripper.

I'm thinking it's more a matter of vaper's tongue and dehydration.

No throat hit? What mg?

I went down that road after my first week. No taste other than a wierd plastic flavor. Since then I have drank more water that I can stand.

I have been using 12mg of nic. I even tried an 18 but thought I better not use it much since I was getting so much vapor still no throat hit. I get more throat hit from my protank than the iqo but the igo gives WAY more vapor. That doesn't really make sense to me. I even tried a juice with menthol with 12 nic and no throat hit.

coil 002.jpgThis one is with a small amount of cotton. I have made 1.5 1.8 2.0 and 2.4 ohm coils. Honestly they all have been about the same flavor. It is still less flavorful than a protank with the same eliquid.

I will keep trying different things but I might give it a couple of days before I try again.
