About a year and a half ago I was introduced to the idea of vaping by a guy I work with who used vaping to quit smoking cigarettes. I was intrigued but not enough to really give it a try. The up front costs seemed pretty steep and my husband at the time discouraged me from trying it.

Fast forward to this summer when I became a single mom, my ex lost his job before I could file for divorce so I had to go onto the health insurance my company offers which costs an extra $40 every two weeks if you're a smoker. So I went to my coworker who helped me get a setup from vapor 4 life that included about 5 blank cartos, 2 808 threaded batteries that are about the same size as the eGo-T, and he had me get a tank and carto setup. I ordered the smilin' special menthol because I have been mostly smoking menthols in my 20+ year smoking history.

Annnnnd...I hated it. I thought the tank and carto setup was messy and fiddly, and the menthol juice made me cough. Bah. I was irritated that I had spent all this money on something I hated. I put it in a box and forgot about it.

Until one of my other co-workers started up vaping and he, unlike my other co-worker, mentioned that he couldn't really vape menthol or tobacco flavors. He compared it to the uncanny valley and I realized that is exactly what I hated about vaping. It is close but not close enough, leaving me with a general feeling of dismay about the whole thing.

He also mentioned that there was a brick and mortar e-cig store close to my house so I went there. I cannot say I'm exactly a fan of the place but they did let me try a whole bunch of flavors and to make a long story short (too late!) I bought another kit with an eGo-T and a couple of Vision Stardust clearomizers and several flavors of juice and I'm on my way.

I haven't smoked any analogs since Friday. I can't say, unlike so many people here, that it's been easy to stay with vaping. In fact, it is all I can do not to drive down to the gas station and buy a pack of glorious, wonderful Marlboro blue 72s. But I'm seriously poor and I have got to cut costs and quitting analogs is one of the easiest (theoretically) things to cut. Besides that, I have kidney disease and my doctor climbs my tush every time I walk in the door about smoking.

But, tell me, was there anybody else that struggled like this? It's not like I don't have enough nicotine, but this is miserable, switching.

My other question is this, what do you think is the most reasonably priced cartomizers that will work with the eGo's (not 808) threads? I like the non-fiddlyness of the clearomizers but every now and then I get a burnt taste and that makes me want to hurl. I think blank cartomizers are the way to go for me. Unless anyone has a better suggestion, I'm open.

Thanks for reading, if you made it this far, lol.

The short answer is yes. Frankly, vaping is not smoking. Vaping is fiddley and you have to have batteries that are charged and you can run out of juice and your tank thingeys can leak or clog or whatever. When I smoked, I could rub two sticks together if I had to to get a fire started and get my ciggie lit.

Nope, not as easy, doesn't taste the same but........the health benefits are incredible and you really can save quite a bit of money over smoking. Your insurance being cheaper makes it worth it right there much less the actual cost of cigs.

Keep us updated on your progress. It does get easier and when you start finding juices and delivery systems that you like it really, really gets easier.

I wish you all the best as you move forwards. You are obviously going through a very big set of changes in your life.

Agreed regarding the dual coil mega ego's. I bought a 5 pk aftering watching an online review and I've been using the same one for 3 weeks and counting. The difference between the cone attys that come with the ego t and these Carto's are night and day. They just taste and hit so much better, don't get me wrong, the ego attys were good but I needed something with more oomph and throat hit. I got just that! Now mind you, when i used one for the first time, it seemed as if my first couple toots would produce a horrible burn taste. I chalk it up to user error most likely. My work around would be a dry draw or two, then a few test vapes by drawing but not inhaling....just draw then blow out 2-3 times.i could always tell when the burn flavor was replaced with smooth flavor. It was all downhill from there:toast:

Sorry to hear you haven't been having the best time, but I can advise you to stick with it! I'm right at a week of vaping now and I quit when I flew out of the country to go to a funeral b/c I had already planned to quit, so I can tell you it was not easy for me either(very stressful time). I also tried vaping before and it didn't work for me. What really did the trick was when I got my eGo and found a flavor I really like, having a good flavor you can vape alll day will really help you! Also, the first couple days are the hardest, the cravings will start to subside a little soon, and the analogs will start to smell disgusting. And your good friends/family will congratulate you for being smoke free, which always makes me feel better, and wanna stay smoke free!!!

Best of luck to you, stick with it!

For ease of use, the cartomizer is a good way to go. Another option is a dripping atomizer. The dripping atomizer can be a little bit more to start, but its hard to beat drip drip vape(until the flavor drops off) drip drip vape, in terms of simplicity.
Regarding the craving a cigarette, Ive found, through my own experience, that I need to vape for twice as long to get the same "fix". In other words, if I went out to smoke it was for 10 minutes, I would need to vape for 20 minutes for the same feeling.

Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one, it just seems like everyone is like, once I started vaping, that was it, I never wanted to smoke again and my experience is sooooo different. I did the math and quitting smoking will save nearly $350 a month including the insurance fee dropped which won't happen until it has been 6 months. That will make a huge difference with my budget.

Welcome badbadivy. Like reno said, the health benefits alone are worth vaping. I smoked 2 packs a day for almost 35 yrs. And 3 mths ago said heck with this, and started vaping. Haven't looked back. Bought alot of equipment and juices, to see what I'm going to like (still buying juices. lol ) Settled on mods with tanks. It can be time consuming finding a juice you'll like, but you need to experiment with that. I just told myself, enough is enough, I'm going to quit the stinkies. And, I have.

Agreed again....a person new to vaping could be discouraged by the maintenance involved verses the next to nothing effort when smoking. Give it some time and you'll find your routine, you'll tweak your money spent to manageable levels, and find what works for you. Researching is a pain when there are oceans of information, but don't give up. I want my uncle to get into vaping, but I fear absence of a simple set up and maintenance might turn him away since he has similar financial concerns. Good luck to everyone!

Thanks for the tips!! I'm working on finding a good flavor, I really like cinnamon but can't use it all day. I've got some stuff coming from Mt. Baker vapor that I'm going to try, most of the flavors I have other than the cinnamon I do not really dig.

I've been mixing the menthol and the cinnamon since I have a ton of the menthol, that works out pretty well. Anyone got an idea of what mixes really well with menthol?

Frankly, I don't agree with the dual coils, not unless you are going to use a 7 volt mod. It seems like you won't be able to spend too much, and when you get into the big toys, you are going to spend more money.

I suggest going for a eGo Twist or a Spinner, and a tank system like a Kranger, or a DCT tank with single coil cartomizers. You will gwet many more opinions though. That's just mine.

It might seem like that but quite a few people vape and smoke for quite awhile before giving up the cigs. Some people even are happy that they cut way back on smoking. Obviously, in your case, to save the money on insurance, you have to give up smoking. Vaping really is a very satisfying way to do that and once you hit your stride with the juices and delivery system plus detox from the ciggies, you will be amazed at how nice it is to be a vaper instead of a smoker.

I wasn't able to quit as soon as I got my kit. It took about a month of both vaping and smoking (dropping the cigs down to eventually two puffs off a cig for two nights) before I was able to finally give up the last cig. About the time I found the right delivery system is when I managed to give the cigs up for good.

It does take time and patience but the payoff is sooooo worth it! Keep on fighting the fight. You will find your way eventually. :)
