No views, then 50 views ??

Not really a problem just something I noticed. does the site only update so often? Sometimes if I'm watching a thread I'll notice that the view count will stay the same for a long time, then all of a sudden there will be a bunch of views and responses. Is it just me?

You are correct, it only updates every half hour and thus the jump in the number of views.
