The noisy cricket is just a metal box that holds 2 batteries, the whole thing is user error. He needs a lot more experience before using a mech like that.
I think I would agree, but sounds like he was doing OK until he leant it to a friend and it came back f'ed up. And I would still agree, except I don't think he would listen. Mechs still scare me cuz I don't want to have one of my molars in my eye, but some people don't listen.

Woah, lots of deleted messages on here. It's a shame, be kind guys. It's really not that hard, yeah.. he's doing something he shouldn't be because he hasn't the knowledge. Does he need a scolding though? You're not his mother, and a negative reply is only going to turn into more negativity and he's not going to want to learn because the community is being such crap to him. You can kindly tell him what he's doing wrong and express the importance of your words without being rude, it's quite easy.

I will though, +1 to all those here saying you should buy a regulated mod. Buy a regulated mod, get several months of experience with it, building coils on RBA's, and later on research thoroughly about mechs and then if comfortable, get back into it. But only when you are educated enough to know all of the variables and not only understand, but respect the responsibility which comes with using an unregulated mod which holds no safety features.

The vaping community does not need any more negative media attention, but most importantly and I can't express this enough, your safety is of the utmost importance. No one here however rude, wishes to see a person go through the pain of what a mech could do to you or others within your vicinity. Vape, but always vape safe.

Mechs can be perfectly safe to use, it's just a matter of how much grey mass between your ears you want to devote to learning to do it safely. If you don't want to learn and want to blow clouds right now, get a regulated mod. If you don't mind spending some time with it, and learning how to be safe, get one. I went from cigalikes to mechs with carto tanks, then a few drippers. My first true RTA was a Z atty pro on my new, at the time, Provari 2. A true Genesis tank, on a low powered regulated mod! You want to talk about a steep learning curve and a PITA to get setup right! I've played with a few other Genesis styles since, and it's a lot easier without the mod shutting down all the time!
But if they aren't willing to listen, and learn, it's best they stay with a regulated mod.

I promise, it wasn't as bad as it seems. I think the mods got a little over protective just because it is the new members section. But we were/are frustrated in the fact that the OP didn't seem to want to listen to reason and assumed it was everything but the mod/build that was wrong. It was a hard conversation to have. As well as, I am at least, not sure of others, getting scared of seeing these threads showing up regularly with new members having issues with these particular mods and don't understand how different, and dangerous, they are from single battery mods.

Everything I wanted to say got covered but I just wanted to add that the problem started when he got that mod with no experience. To use a mod like that, you need to know what batteries you need and how to care for them, how to pick the right atomizer with a protruding pin, build your own coils and check them before putting them on the mod, tell when your batteries need to be swapped, and to tell when something might be off early, which he did get that one by reacting accordingly to the mod heating up, but could have been avoided with the earlier mentioned things.

I like mech mods, but need more power for my claptons usually. I got a new mech because I feel it's good to have one as a back up, but I've yet to play around with it. It's not a direct-battery connection mod, and top vented, because I just don't care to do all those things, even though I feel confident I can handle them.

Agreed 100%

I own series and single mechs mainly as a backup I know enough to care for them and how to operate them safe

These things need looked after I know there simple in make but mine get a bath after a few days of use
