In my college days, many years ago, I rode the subway in Philadelphia. The tracks were in serious disrepair at that time, so the subway cars would lurch and sway violently, the lights were off more than they were on, and the noise was truly deafening ...

And yet the commuters sat quietly and calmly day after day, reading a paper when there was light, acting as if this was perfectly normal ...

Now these same people would go to the Jersey shore in the summer, get on the thrill rides at an amusement park, and scream their lungs out on a ride that wasn't half as scary or as loud as the city subway ...

By the same principle, people today will go to a theater or nightclub with a fog machine and squeal with delight. But vape a single wisp of "smoke" 50 yards away from them while they're sitting in their car with the windows rolled up, and they will fake cough immediately and scream that you are endangering their children (even if the kids are not there) ...

People sure are funny that way ...
