I'm one of these people. I used to smoke 2 packs a day a few years ago until i cold turkey quit and havent touched a cigarette since. A few months ago though, I stumbled across vaping, because I was looking for means to keep me awake at night delivering papers for my second job. Coffee wasnt working because of the crash...eating tons of sugar wasn't healthy, and I needed to find something fast, because I was starting to fall asleep at night driving.

That's where vaping came in. The nicotine gives me a chemical to keep me awake, while the act of vaping itself is something I can do during quiet periods that also helps keep me awake...all without having to do the nasty stink, and health drawbacks of smoking.

I read in my local paper that there is a huge increase In middle and high school students using ecigs which is definitely not good for the FDA

I myself am pretty young (21) but ecigs for me are truly to stop analogs my fiancé hates analogs and would just get angry everytime I had one and I didn't like my 3 year old daughter seeing me with a analog In my mouth.

And that local paper that you read it in neglected to also state how many middle and high school students were using cigarettes as well. I bet more were smoking than were vaping. These kinds of articles are disgusting.

Nicotine is an alkaloid, just like coffeine. Have yet to meet someone who's going ap*..... on me for having a mug or feels offended by the aroma of ground coffee beans. Wanna smoke ? Smoke. Wanna vape? Vape. Wanna breathe fresh air ? Lemme know where to find any on this planet...

As long as you're aware of the consequences. That's what it boils down to in the end : Giving people unbiased data so that they can make an informed decision for themselves whether to take up something or leave it be.

There's folks stepping of airplanes with just a folded up tarpaulin strapped to their back ( aka parachute ), there's folks jumping off high places with a rubber band tied to to their ankles - they all make informed choices about the fun to be had and the risks involved. Like the fact that gravity does suck....

And watching all these 'fail' clips on yt, it appears to be a constitutional right to do sometimes utterly stupid things. Add to that the list of candidates for the annual Darwin Award...

What you're getting yourself into or out of - your decision, but it never hurts to find out about it beforehand...

Foreknowlege beats afterthoughts or even epitaphs...

At the advice of a veteran vaper, I try to discourage it....at first. that being said my wife who was not smoking at the time I started vaping, took up vaping and loves it almost as much as i do. Like I said I advise against it if they are non smokers, but if someone really wants to vape I give them as much information as they can handle and let them know where they can get 0mg fluid. I have also told my kids if they ever felt the need to smoke it better be an ecig, when they are over 18. I dont believe I would be upset if they enjoyed vaping as a hobby. There is so much one can do with vaping and it's a neat hobby. I sound like a dork. good post.

No no no ! You sound nothing like a dork I agree 100% iys quite the hobby if my son ever felt like he absolutely wanted to smoke ( I hope he never does ) I would educate him on vaping and hope he makes the right decision.

Sorry, I am one of those that believe that is a stop smoking tool & should not be used as a hey look at me I'm cool. Yes it is a free country and people have that right, but we who have chosen it to help us quit stinkies already have enough trouble with people who don't understand it and it is more ammo for the FDA. just my:2c: :vapor:

I understand your feelings on this. To many of us who've been able to quit smoking through vaping... this is a highly valued thing that we don't need a bunch of non-smoking knotheads looking to be cool spoil "our" good thing.

But it's not our realm to control... ironically many of us are actively fighting to prevent governments and such from controlling any aspect of this. Honestly... we can't have it both ways. If you think about it in broader market terms... we don't want limitations to be imposed on us, then that means it's open game for everyone... even those nasty non-smoker wanting to be cool types!!

For me its a safer alternative rather than a cessation aid as I have no intention of quitting vaping. I'm OK with the "trading one habit for another" analogy (this habit isnt killing me).:vapor:

FearTX your avatar scares me, and I'm in TX

This is actually one of my "tamer" Fear avatars...

What is really scary is my last name is your screen name.

its very controversial this topic lol. me personally i have worked my way all the way down to 6mg and have been at 6mg for a while so honestly i could probably stop when ever i want to but i dont want to, there for my stop smoking "tool" has become a hobby and something i do for fun.. so honestly in my opinion that makes me no better then someone who just picks it up as a hobby because im no longer using it as a "stop smoking tool" and i bet im not alone here. it has done an amazing thing for me and i love it for that so yes im going to continue to use it and support it. the way i see it if a non smoker wants to vape who are we to say no and thats one more person buying vape stuff and the more money being spent on vape stuff the faster gear will advance and become more awesome :) its consumerism or something like that.

I don't care if if they vape nic or no nic. If vape wasn't available, they may have picked up smoking otherwise, better for them to start vaping from the beginning instead of going through a cigarette phase. Nicotine alone isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be, the health effects are negligible compared to the risks of tar in cigarette smoke.

I am not a daily coffee drinkers and had a double shot espresso this morning, had me fidgeting, that's more of a "drug" in comparison. The list of negative side effects for caffeine are longer than that of plain nicotine, so I don't see why we act differently towards caffeine, even kids can buy it and there is no uproar. It's all just because folks group nic with the negative effects of tobacco, when the vast majority of ill effects are caused from the tar from combustion and inhalation of smoke, not the nicotine.

Speaking of caffeine, artificially sweetened beverages break down into toxic components, but again, no warnings or FDA issues. Aspartame breaks down into methanol at a rate of 10%, and the majority of that breaks down into formaldehyde, meaning you are your body produces milligrams of formaldehyde per serving of diet soda. There was one study which the media said linked electronic cigarettes to formaldehyde, and we are not talking milligrams, were talking parts per billion(with a B), but as was touched on in the study itself but not reported, humans exhale trace amounts of formaldehyde, turns out, at the SAME rate detected in the study, meaning none of it was from the ecig.

I made the choice to smoke. Had vaping been around when I did, I would have vaped instead. People are gonna do what people are gonna do... period. H3ll some actually voted for the other guy! Go figure. Best I can do is stay as peaceful as possible living my life... not trying to save people from themselves because that's just futile.

I started out vaping to quit smoking cigarettes. I have achieved that objective. Now I vape because I find it to be a tasty and relaxing pursuit. I also vape because I have turned the process of vaping into an inexpensive (as hobbies go) pastime. These were my choices. Everyone is entitled to their own, so long as they don't negatively impact others. Vaping has no proven negative impact anyone other than the vaper, and minimal impact on him/her.

School children will experiment as a part of their maturation, be it cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, piercings, tattoos, etc. The addition of vaping brings to the table, what I consider to be, the least damaging personal activity they might try. In the school environment it is a distraction, so vaping by children at school should be properly controlled. Any other control of where and when vaping is done, should be left up to the individual and (for minors) parents. My high school had a smoke shack where, with parental approval, we could smoke between classes.

I do not encourage nonsmokers to take up vaping just I would never encourage anyone to take up any of the choices mentioned above. However, once the decision is made, it is the only one I would actively encourage and promote.

I didn't start vaping to quit smoking but it did end my 7 year chaw addiction. Got a disposable on a whim one night with a long drive home and knew right then I was done chewing.

I think it's fine non smokers/tobacco users to start vaping. Who cares if it is only to be cool? Vaping IS cool IMO among many other positive adjectives but idk. Even if it isn't cool doesn't matter I will still do it anyway. And all the cool kids will move on to whatever the next cool thing is. Seen it with so many other things than vaping. It's just natural. And doesn't matter in the least.

I was a smoker for about 27 years. I wanted to quit, so i did. I then started using Snus. Snus is better for you than cigarettes, and even better for you than chewing tobacco. I quit the snus, but found that I really missed the oral fixation, the nicotine, and something to keep my hands busy while driving, watching tv, etc.... I tried to do the chewing gum, hard candy, but none of this worked. My son came over with his MVP2 and some juice, I tried it and started vaping myself. I am using low level nic, and will probably do o nic and DYI juice.

For me, I think it was a good choice to start to vape, as I am hoping to get my wife into it, so she can at least cut back if not quit the analogs.

I agree with statements here, if non smokers decide to vape, let them...... especially if it keeps them from picking up smoking.
