So today I visited my mom, haven't seen her in a while. I mentioned that I haven't smoked a cigarette in x amount of days ( it hasn't been very long but I'm proud of myself!) .. It was really hard for me to quit at first, even though I mainly vaped through my cravings! So yeah, she says "yeah but you're still smoking -that stinky thing-" LOL referring to my vape. First of all it's not stinky, it's fruity and delicious. Secondly it's not NEARLY as dangerous as cigarettes, not even close. This frustrated me.. if my own mother can't see how great vaping is, how it saved me from slowly killing myself how could a stranger??

I have a son (even tho he only 2) i would try and get him not to smoke or vap. even tho i vap (not in front of him).

haha, my mom still calls my vaping, smoking, still wants me to quit and I get that I really do... She sees clouds she thinks smoke. She sees it as wasting my money, even if I am still spending a fraction of what I used to per month on cigarettes on vape. But then again, my parents are accountants.

I agree with Mackan1, although it would be "better" not to vape at all, it's still far better to vape then smoke.

It can take a while to educate the folks. I got lucky; my parents were both ex-smokers, so they could follow what my brother and I were talking about. In the end, though, I think they were just glad we had moved away from analogs, regardless of how we did it. I vape in front of them now, with no complaints (well, as long as I'm not trying to impersonate a fog machine...)

Family members are the hardest on us- especially in areas they dont fully understand. Many still see it as smoking despite our efforts to convince them otherwise. All you can do is continue to be proud of yourself & not let what comes off as their negativity affect your progress.

As far as strangers- who gives a damn what they think!!!!

I had the same issue. I said yeah just keep it up, because pestering me sure did work to stop me from smoking (not). :smokie:

It's been over five years now, and I don't hear much about it, except whatever you are vaping smells really good. :vapor:

It takes some time for people to adjust to the fact that this is not smoking, and does not produce smoke. But most of them get there in time!

What I don't understand is where people are seeing all of the media coverage on vaping. I've seen very little and I read major news websites every day. If I'm looking for articles on vaping, I usually have to go searching for them.

In the past couple of weeks, my co-worker has ran into a couple of people in our office who think vaping and smoking are the same thing. And we've also ran into a few that have asked us if we are afraid that it will blow up in our hand.

Keep on going. I just passed the 4 year mark since I touched a cigarette, after a 30 year smoking habit. I have no intention of giving up vaping any time soon, as I feel so much better now.

I think perhaps things are easier in the UK than the US though - we have the Royal College of Physicians coming out in favour of vaping, plus a major BBC documentary, while the FDA and the media in the US are doing their best to shut everything down. Shame on them. E cigarettes etc are a modern day miracle of harm reduction, and can save millions of lives worldwide if allowed to be adopted unhindered. The FDA are sentencing people to death by their actions. I hope they can still look themselves in the eye while pocketing the cash from the Tobacco and Pharmaceutical industries.
