Hi everybody, just wanted to introduce myself. I've been curious about vaping for a while now. Been smoking for about 15 years, 1/2-1 pack a day (lights). So a couple days ago I yelped some local bm's and decided to make the leap. Ended up getting a setup for 200 which includes a kayfun clone EHPro, 3 bottles of juice (0,3,6), 2 sony batts, and a charger. I did go back and get a 12 but might need to go higher. At first I didnt like the fact that there was no realistic cig flavor, but i've quickly realized that the various fruit flavors I got are much better. I also realized walking around with my setup in my side cargo pocket is not a good idea. Oh, and i tend to forget to vape. Like when i'm sitting in front of the computer i'll go about my business and then an hour later i'll get the urge to smoke and realize I forgot to vape. I take about 20-30 hits/day so far. Don't know if thats low or the norm. I do still smoke (of course), and I knew that I would. I just wanted to eventually get off of cigs and into vaping full time. At least thats my goal.

I do have a few quick questions (and I have been reading the forums as much as I can)

1. How do I clean my setup?
2. When is it time to clean it? (about how many tanks before it needs to be clean?)
3. What else do I need to buy when it comes to rebuilding my coil? (I have ordered some kanthal wire, some tweezers, needle nose pliers on amazon and plan on going to cvs to get some cotton and alcohol to clean)
4. What are the different "sections" of my setup called? Is the kayfun an "atty"? The battery holder a mod?

I know I can answer these on my own, and I do plan on doing plenty of research, and please feel no pressure to answer these questions as I know they've been answered a 1000000 times and I will look into it myself. Just figured it wouldnt hurt to ask. Also, I live in downtown LA, so any suggestions for bm's to go to or anything else would be nice. I have to say, this is one of the nicest and most diverse groups I've ever seen on the internet. TIA everybody

Great setup for a starter! You might want to increase the nic level to start (if your goal is to get off the cigs completely), and gradually taper down. the fact that you are 'forgetting to vape' for a period of time is a good sign though, unless you mean that you're smoking during those times, haha. Why is carrying your pv in your cargo pocket a bad idea? Did it fire? There should be a way to shut it down while it's in a pocket, like clicking the button five times (a common way) or some of them twist to shut off. I didn't see what actual battery you got, so can't tell for sure. It's sure pretty though (picture).

I use a kayfun as well and I clean out my kayfun with every coil change. I know it's time to rebuild my coils and rewick when my vaping expirence starts to degenerate. It won't taste as good and might even taste burnt. You can look at your coil and know if it just needs re wicking or re built . If your coil needs rebuilt it will be really dirty and gunky. As far as building goes I use 28 gauge kanthal coil, I use tweezers to compress the coils, I use a butane torch to heat my coils when making micro coils, I use a ohm meter, a must! And wire cutters, a small screwdriver and a 3/4 inch drill bit to wind my coils on. I have several different wicking media but mostly use cotton. I use sterile cotton and organic cotton. That's a good start for builds. On my kayfun I call the bottom part my deck, and the slots in the deck are juice channels. You have a positive and negative screw post. The part on the inside that screws to the deck is called the chimney then the tank goes over that. On top you have your drip tip. That's what you vape from. I think this answers your questions. And yes, you can call the whole thing a "atty" . Hope this helps and welcome to the forum.

Congrats man! Im 2 weeks in on an ecig, just ordered my first EVOD set this morning, and will hit a week without a real cig tomorrow..
Ive got one of the Green Smoke ecigs, and for the first week I was still smoking (and buying like an idiot) cigarettes too. Its inevitable I think, youve got a habit youve held onto forever so it takes some time to 'settle in' to the new one youre replacing it with.. I dug the tobacco flavored cartos they sent me for that first week but once I stopped the real smokes, turns out the menthol was better, and I cant stand menthol cigarettes..
A week in and I dont even miss my smokes now, I dont even notice it actually.. Although I do vape on this thing more than I smoked, today Ive managed to kick back at work and cut myself back to just going out every couple of hours to vape like I would if I were taking regular smoke breaks.. Now I just cant wait to get that EVOD so I can start trying out all the flavors out there! Pretty sure Im over the tobacco flavors too already, although I still wanna try this RY4, but I have a feeling I wont be using those very much at all..

Your setup is great, and is what many of the more advanced users use to vape. Unfortunately, this also means you have to rebuild your coils on your own, and doing so without proper care can lead to some issues. Always ALWAYS check the resistance of your coils. Make sure none of the coils are overlapping, and that no part of the coil except the positive and negative leads touch the coil deck (the base piece of the kayfun), because if any of that is happening then you would create a short.

To learn about the proper ways to build coils, you'd wanna go on youtube and watch some of the build videos there, it's much easier to learn from watching someone who knows what they're doing instead of trying to understand it through text :p Remember to keep Ohm's Law in mind when building your coils to make sure that you do not exceed the max amp discharge of your battery. However, since you said you're using Sony batteries, I would assume it's a VTC4 or 5, meaning that your max amperage would be 0.14Ω at the ABSOLUTE minimum, however this early on you don't want to build below 0.16 or so, just to give yourself a safety cushion in case the reading is wrong.

Also, lower resistance doesn't necessarily mean a better vape. With a mechanical, it'll be hotter for sure, but it also drains the battery faster. With a Kayfun, the resistance they work best at is somewhere between 0.8Ω-1.2Ω. Play around with it, read up on Ohm's Law, watch some tutorials, and please please PLEASE be safe with your mechanical, they are fun to use and can be very rewarding, but at the same time can be very dangerous it you aren't careful about what you're doing.

Hope this helps, happy vaping! And remember, stay strong, vape through your cravings, and before you know it you'll be totally off cigs. Good luck!

Thanks everybody! I've definitely been reading a lot. I forget to lock my ecig which is why its not good to put it in my pocket

I like to "tinker" a lot and used to be quite experienced with rc cars (and thus batts) so i'm actually looking forward to building my own coils =). Will update frequently

lol i totally miss my rc cars. I still have some but they are old (yes i know the rc10 and the fox haha). I ordered some stuff from amazon which should be here tomorrow as well as some pillows (yes random). Today I went to v-apes in so cal san gabriel area and picked up a new rig. Very similar to the one I already have. Its a king copper clone with an eh pro kayfun in rose gold so it looks nice. I didnt really like the locking mechanism on the my chi you clone. It always loosens and when I tighten it too much it just screws the whole bottom off. This king clone is much better with the reverse threading and the magnetic button. I figure my next "toy" would be a dripable atty (if thats what its called). I like the idea of a tank better as I dont have to carry around any juice though. I do travel frequently so maybe i'll try something else that doesnt require a build as often.

I do gotta say the guys at v-apes were super friendly and helpful. They let me play around with all the toys and let me watch as he built my coil. And they have a good selection of juice. Will definitely be back again. Also picked up an ohm reader so I think i'm set on rebuilding.

An update to my analogs. I still smoke them and still pretty frequently. But I notice that I have urges less frequently and can go longer between smokes. I've decreased my usage already from about 3/4-1 pack a day to 1/2-3/4. I'm doing better than I thought. The juices I bought today were 18mg which is an increase of my 12 I was using so hopefully it helps

Just another update. I refilled my kayfun for the first time! I redid the cotton. It was easier than i expected. I also used my new ohm reader. The chi you clone setup I got was setup from the store at 1.16 ohm and my king clone was set up at .86 ohm. I dont really like the extra heat on the hit from the king but I feel like the chi you makes my lungs feel "heavy" (although this might be due to the fluid). I also cleaned my copper king with toothpaste (which didnt work very well) and then ketchup which worked phenomenally. Not sure if I liked the patina that was occuring (I originally thought I would). My analog usage has also decreased. Yesterday I only had 6 which is a record low for me. I do notice an ever so slight difference between the 12mg I had on my chi and the 18 I bought yesterday at v-apes. I think my next purchase will be for some bombies since i've been reading a lot about them. Thanks everybody!
