tl;dr What do I set my vamo v3 at?

I've done searches. I've watched youtube. I've played, experimented, lamented, and tried again. This forum is so big I fear I'm never going to find the answers I need. I even saw someone say that if you don't understand wattage/voltage, you have no business owning a Vamo. So I've kept my mouth shut for days. But I truly need help. And I truly want to learn.

I have been vaping pretty happily for almost a month with my ego twists and evods. But I wanted more (as one does), so I ordered a vamo v3, some x10 protanks, and a igo-l rda. I was sooooooo excited when they arrived!!

Sigh.

The coil on one of my protanks was doa. I tried to replace it with a kanger coil, but it doesn't fit. The drip tip worked for a while (wonderfully) but then I got serious gurgling (which I understand means flooding) and some bad burnt taste (which I understands means not enough juice). Wha??

Anyway, I've been pouring over blogs and may or may not figure all that out eventually, but I desperately need to know what settings to put on my vamo! Ohms law says resistance + 2, right? Voltage... right? What about wattage?

I've read some threads that say these things should set themselves... somehow. It will set the voltage and I have to set the wattage? The other way around? Both? Neither? I'm lost. I just want a good strong vape and some wonderful tastes.

I've taken apart and cleaned my rda and I hope I didn't ruin it.

Sorry to babble. I'm just frustrated and overwhelmed by all the info that isn't quite on point.

Read this first!
Set Vamo for Watts - NO2
expect decent Clearomizer vaping around 7 watts

You need to slow down and start asking yourself WHY
1)Why was the Protank coil a DOA - not impossible, but not likely. More likely no contact of center pins. That is the positive connection. The threading is the Negative connection.
2) Why did the Kanger coil not fit? was it for an Evod or a Protank? they ARE interchangeable. Coil should fit unless for a T3, completely different.

Slow down to go faster, don't rush and repeat mistakes that slow you down.:)

Please Refer to your equipment properly.
so.....X9 or X10?
X9 is a copy, not a ProTank
X10 is a copy of SmokTek Cartomizer tank

X9 uses Protank/Evod coils

Also, the video should help. Main difference is Height (X9 is taller) and Base(X9 no Air Slots):)

Recommendations remain the same.

Vamo, Vamo V2, Vamo V3 - depending on Manufacturer(Lots of copies) Are all minor Cosmetic and spring differences. Almost All use the exact same 33.3mhz controller with identical functions.

SO - we'll get you there!
1 - that's not actually what people mean when they say "ProTank". This is.

2- COULD be a dead coil... Or could be something else. I got a dead coil in a ProTank - and that was from a big US vendor (they gave me like $1.20 credit) :)

3 - You should learn which buttons to press, if you don't know, to get the ohm reading from your coil. That will give you an IDEA of what volts to start at.

4 - You can use volts, and yes - ohms+2 is a good starting point, then just go up or down until you're happy.
OR ELSE, you can use Watts, and maybe start at say 7.5. And again, just go up or down until you're happy.
See, when you're using watts, the VAMO figures out the right voltage FOR YOU, by reading the coil and doing the math. So you could switch from a 1.9 coil to a different head with a 2.7 coil, and it would change the voltage so you'd still get the 8 watts. That's what they mean when they say it "sets itself". But you can do a little more fine tuning by controlling the voltage yourself - that's why the VAMO gives you the OPTION. You do one or the other - watts OR volts. I hope that makes sense to you!

5 - Finally, that's a lot of new all at once...You might want to slap one of those EVODS on the VAMO, and play with it for a while. Evods are super, you know them, and they should work great on a VAMO, while you get used to the buttons. THEN try the new toppers. Just a thought.

Yep, no need to hurry like crxess said. The more you try to hurry, your just gonna get even more confused. Take it a step at a time.
Train2 gave some good advice, follow it and see if that works, if not then ask again.

To whomever told you that if you don't understand voltage/wattage you have no right owning a Vamo, well maybe THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO!!!

Btw, Gina, welcome to vaping. Like the rest said, just relax, you will figure it out. I use the Vamo V2 and the V3 operates basically the same. It is a fine mod. I know it is a lot to learn at first, and sometimes it seems like you will never get it. But you will. I've been vaping and off analogs for over 13 months, and I still learn something new here every day. Again, welcome. There are so many folk here that are ready to help with all sorts of wonderful information and advice. :) JD

Thank you everyone, and especially Train2! This all makes perfect sense and exactly was I was asking (though in my frustration I probably didn't word it very well). It can be an either/or thing with the wattage/voltage! I know how to use the menu just fine, and will do some playing around to find my sweet spot. The rda has been set aside for now, and I've been vaping the vamo with a kanger T3.

I'm getting this thing figured out! Thank you all for your help.
