Not Complete newb.. But thinking about giving a 2nd shot..

Hey guys!
Im back to the forums! Lol I have given PVs a shot 6-8 months ago, but couldnt kick the habit of the analogs, mainly because I kept running into so many problems with my e-cigs..

When I first started, I purchased two. I had a penstyle and a mini and enjoyed using them. After a little while, I stopped using my mini all together and fell in love with my penstyle. But the issue I kept running into was it would excessively leak all the time! Maybe it was user error, and maybe I was dripping way too much liquid but after even just 2 drops it would run down the battery. Or I would reach into my jacket pocket to get my PV and i could feel a bit of liquid in my pocket, and it was just irritating! So I ended up purchasing multiple atomizers and giving it another go, but the same continued until i finally gave up.

But now Im checking to see if maybe I can give it another shot. Maybe there is something out there that will work better and not be such a hassle. I have seen the prodigy.. and even though its looks are not appealing, if it does the job, I could really care less. :) any input? Or aside from the prodigy is there any other recommendations?

Thanks guys in advance. This community was always so helpful. And I am dying to switch to an alternative of these filthy analogs!

Well, if i were you and i was having problems with leakage. I would check out some 2 piece models and see if u like what the reviews show. I recently switched from using 510 to a 901 and most recently to a 2 piece, known mostly as kr808d1/Vaporking/nebula. I have a video up on youtube, my nickname on there is werfed. its under 4 mins. Grimm Green does some excellent reviews, he has a couple models out there.

I was just watching a couple of the video reviews and saw that he really loves his 510. So I started looking into it a bit... Is it true that all 510 are sealed?Does that mean no leakage? I've found posts on good and bad things about the 510.. But unsure if its worth trying.. I guess I'm nervous about spending the cash to have it end up in a draw again. Any suggestions?

Your first idea was excellent. Forget two piece models unless you want to either use carts (ugh) or try topping off through the atty hole to the battery.

The Prodigy is one of the top 2 or 3 PV's made. Great throat hit (5 volts power), batteries that cost $2.50 and last 4-6 hours on a charge, manual switch so you get nice warm vaper, sealed battery compartment so no leakage. There have been significant improvements in the last 4-5 months. The 801 atomizer was made for the Prodigy. There are also other good premiere devices but I believe the Prodigy is up there with the top 2-3. Trust your first instinct. It was a good one. Here is a list of the premieres:

The Big Nine in Long Battery Life Manual Switch PV’s:

Screwdriver: ecigscrewdriver.com
The Black Screwdriver Electronic Cigarette Kit
Prodigy: PureSmoker.com - Home of the USA Built PV !!!
GG: SmokeJuice - HOME
JantyStick: Janty USA - Janty USA
LV/ZiMoshi:Personal Vaporizers : Hardass Vapor Shop
Super T: Super T, Innovative manufacturer of Personal Vaporizer products.
AdapteverR: Home - AdapteveR Home of the ORIGINAL USA built PV
Silver Bullet: AltSmoke | Personal Vaporizer Silver Bullet - Kit - Starter Kits
VP1/VP2: VaprLife

in my experience, the 510 still has leaking issues, and batteries only last 1-2 hours, you ought to be okey if you get the pcc, which should be standard with anything you buy (except modded battery). just gotta say again though, the 2 piece kits i haven't had a problem leaking at all yet. and wv2win is right if u wanna shell out over 100 bucks for a mod, you really should. they are all highly recommended and have a lot of fans. some of those are even compatible or can be made compatible to cartomizers

edit: sealed only means that if your cart does leak, its less likely to ruin your battery, unless it runs into the button.

I've been vaping for 5 weeks with a 901. Originally I had a lot of problems with leaking or getting liquid into my mouth. Some of the reasons were:
- overfilling the cartridge
- using some blank cartridges where the polyfill was so dense the juice wasn't really getting down into the bottom part where the atomizer could vaporize it. I had read about the staw mod, used a coffee stirrer as my 'straw' and now I had great cartridges. Counter-intuitive to me because if the polyfll was too dense, why did this work when I was compressing the fill by inserting the straw into the cartridge, but it worked.
- using a cartridge too long without changing the stuffing. The stuffing would compact into a little ball and juice wouldn't be absorbed into it. I read that I could remove the stuffing, wash it out with water, pat it dry with a paper towel then let it dry another few hours and use it 'fresh' again. I've since read recommendations to wash the filling every couple of days. I definitely needed to get a pair of thin needle-nosed pliers to use in restuffing the cartridges - when I tried just pusing it in with my fingers it would tend to compact into a near-impenetrable ball again.

So these were my 'user errors' - maybe my experience will help you.

Currently vaping my first DIY juice, since I got some Lorann's flavors and no-flavor nic juice from TW yesterday - chocolate hazelnut in a cartridge restuffed with 'washed' old filling -wonderful!

Thank you for the responses and the suggestions. I stopped using carts and began to drip and in the 901 since the air holes are at the bottom of the atomizer after just two drops it would leak out of the air holes so it was really an issue with liquid in my mouth, but just a batt coated with nic juice and gettin on my hands. Got to the point where I had to hole a napkin around the batt when I used it.. Don't really wanna do that wen I'm at work lol its embarrassing.. I'm gunna order a prodigy but 2-3 weeks is a long timeee.

Any suggestions on what other one I could try in the mean time?

I agree with wv2win... but just so you know, the 510 battery is sealed. I had a friend that was pouring juice into the well of the battery by mistake and he had no problems... I corrected the error and checked out the batts - still working well. The leakage you could get from 510's is if you over fill your cart or drip too much on the atty. I keep it to 3 or 4 or less. If you end up with a bubble rather than just moistness on the cart, you'll likely have some leakage or if you don't completely screw the atty on to the batt... otherwise the 510 is leak free. And again, the battery is sealed so you won't have the problem you have with auto batts which aren't sealed.

The prodigy as I understand it (don't have one) and most mod types - I have a Janty Stick, the battery is sealed and in some cases (Janty Stick/Nicostick) off line of the atty so dripping is much easier and less messy.

I plan on getting a Janty Stick for my main PV. I like the design of the JS, it's kinda like having a better looking version of the big boys like the Prodigy. I also like the compact design, as well as the sealed battery compartment. And Janty seems like they stand by their product pretty well.

I like the JS but, if you haven't already, you might want to look into the advantages/differences of the higher voltage mods. They don't fit my requirements right now but they might yours....

I most likely will take a look at one of the "big boys" a little later on. But for now, the JS seems like it will suit my needs. I like the idea of a built-in passthrough, too.

Yep. Me too. That really is what pushed me over the top. I was almost there already. I like it for the car and when you leave you're fully charged.

You using water? That sure is some runny liquid.8-o

Lol water?! Lol hell no! All my ejuice was always as thin as water though! I have the sampler from JCSJ but mainly used some Cash's True Menthol.. But they leaked ridiculously.. Maybe Just inferior products I assume always thought they were good since people raved about them on here... I am curious about the janty stick now tho.. Hmm are they expensive? Are they a good out of the house alternative to the prodigy? No leakage? Manual switch or auto? Where can I get one?

Sounds like one of a couple of things. Your atty was flooded and since you kept adding liquid it kept leaking (solution: take the atty off and blow it out until you cant' get anything else out of it). Or you were not dripping directly onto the wick, which is the little silver colored hump in the middle. I've noticed that if I miss when dripping and it runs down the inside of the atty it can leak out of the holes in the atty or flood the atty.

So I finished my last analog last night and this morning I said.. what the hell lets give these old things another shot. So I grabbed all my PV stuff from the draw they have been in and trying giving it a whirl..

So I grabbed my Njoy Ncig and Npro, and began to get everything ready.. started charging my Npro batteries and tried doing the same with the Ncig, but the Ncig charger was broken and soo were my aftermarket 2 aftermarket usb chargers.. they would not charge at all. But it seems like my usb passthrough for my penstyle is still working, while the npro batts charge.

I have been using the passthrough off and on within the past 3 weeks or so I knew it worked, but still leaky.

But today I used the suggestions provided, and blew out the atomizer to find that there was a good amount of ejuice still in there. After that, Its working like a champ!

I am still going to upgrade though, I want a new toy, but maybe this can hold me over until the others ship. I am ordering a Prodigy, mainly for home vaping, and a Janty Dura-C for when I am on the go.

So I cannot thank you guys enough. Still within the first day of Vaping and no Analogs, but it is a start.

Also before I order my Prodigy and Dura-C, do u guys have any problems with the two I am planning on purchasing? Are they good choices? Any complaints? Both seem to be drip friendly, and I think I will like the manual batteries better.

Thanks again guys.

Just a side note about the models you have right now, try storing them with the tip side down, that way the liquid stays in the cartridge filler compartment. As far as the models your getting, i havent heard anything bad about them, but you might want to check out the forum under their suppliers probably a lot more feed back there.
