Have equipment in tiptop shape does help. Perhaps your atty is going bad, or maybe one of your cartos. Or perhaps you're running them too dry and they aren't wicking right. Otherwise, vaping is great, but it's not a magical solution. At least in my experience, it curbs the nicotine withdrawls, and is in and of itself a very pleasant experience. However, I still miss cigarettes. I still have the desire to smoke analogs. I suspect I probably will for a few weeks. Switching to vaping is a lifestyle change, and one should not expect it to come naturally overnight. It will take a while for the body to adjust.
Other things to consider. The ammonia they add to cigarettes, when combusted, essentially freebased the nicotine. That is, breaks off part of the structural make up, to make it bond better in our brain receptors. This process makes nicotine far more potent and addictive than it is in its original state. So you are still getting nicotine, but it's not exactly the same. Plus there are other addictive properties in cigarettes. And when it comes down to it, the first few days of vaping are like no other. Essentially I attribute this to new toy syndrome. You don't want to smoke the first few days, because that's time you could spend playing with your new toy; vaping.
So just give it time, I think it will get easier. The desire to smoke should stop. Just hold out. Also what percentage juice are you using? How often did you smoke? How many a day? I ask this because as I said before, even though the nicotine contained in cigs is much less than even the 8mg juice, it was much more potent than what you're getting now. When I first started out, I got 16mg juice. It was okay while I was still smoking, but I've been off tobacco for a few days now, and nothing less than 24mg satisfies me unless I'm doing some serious chain vaping.
