I'm sure there's plenty of folks on here with way more experience than I have with these little marvels. But I felt inclined to types a few words from my own limited experience.
First of all, we bought a pair of MPT3s a while back as upgrades to our Smok BTA tanks that came with some kits we bought, and after a week or so of troubling vaping, I was about ready to toss the little suckers out. Aside from machining and finish and quality (and most other things) being so much better than our prior tanks, I was pretty disappointed with the performance of the MPT3s for the price. Pretty to look at, rough to vape. Hardly any airflow, yielding hardly any vapor with next to zero flavor. And the gimmicky dual coil heads are ridiculous. Sorry if you like them, but you just might be wrong. Let me explain.
First, the biggest improvement I've made to these little tanks is boring out the air holes. Makes a HUGE difference. Best mod I've made to any of my stuff so far.
Second, aside from the normal various problems with the stock replacement coil heads (including the bad characteristic of the tiny grommets expanding inside the 510 threads blocking off even more airflow) all the single coil Kanger and clone after market coil heads work fine in the MPT3s, with the addition of an extra clear rubber boot from another spent coil head turned upside down and placed over the chimney tube directly on top of the stock boot that comes with the single coil head. In such a small chamber size as the Kanger-type tanks allow, the dual coil heads simply clog the area and don't burn any hotter or burn any more juice. It's just the idea that sells. But if you put a 1.8ohn single coil head in its place, wicked with cotton, you will notice a difference. Coils rebuilt or not, it made a load of difference using single coils in the MPT3s. Build slightly lower ohm coils and add cotton and screw them in there, and you've got a hell of a vape from a tiny tank. Just remember that that tiny space will heat up quick with the hotter burn, and you will collect vapor and juice under your drip tip. And go through the juice and your battery much faster. Sure does vape well until you do though.
Last - running more vapor through these little powerhouses also collects residue and grime a lot quicker. I may rewick mine a couple times a day for the sake of killer flavor and decent clouds. But I have also found that I need to take a q-tip to the coil head chimney as well. When you rewick, dry fire the coil a bit before you add material to burn off the grime on the coil. While the head is disassembled, clean out all the gunk that has built up inside it. Clean out under your drip tip as well. Maintain this way and your MPT3 will keep performing well and taste great too, and you can run it hotter with more vapor that would be expected for such a little device.
For example, I have been vaping all day on a MPT3 with a mix using mainly Zeus Caramel Cappuccino 50/50 juice, cooked with a 1.5ohm rebuilt single coil, on a cheap KGO Mega 1300MaH unregulated battery fairly frequently topped off at between 3.9 and 4.2 volts. Each time I refill, I've been rewicking for the hell of it, cleaning out all the parts, consistently amazed at how much tasty vapor I'm getting out of this little gem of a setup.
Hopefully this helps someone out there. If not, at least you know a little more about me, and that doesn't have to matter much either.
Thanks for reading.
