I know some of you are heavily into books but i cant make myself read much after college and am a movie buff to the max.
In finally throwing out the last of the ( horrors !) vhs tapes ( thrift stores here wont take em anymore ) and deciding which i would die without replacing on dvd ,I made a list .
To my surprise ,there are only a few i need on dvd .
I rarely buy movies ,usually renting once is enough for me but here is my must have list :
1.) moonstruck ,cher,and the whole cast .
2.) The Story of Us ( michelle Pfeiffer ( sp? ) and bruce willis (priceless view on marriage .)
3.)The Big Chill ( older brother said i wouldnt understand it ( but to me, it transcends the generations ) ....
yes my big brothers are of a time way before my 70's crap .But that wasn't easier ,just different .

Please contribute your MUST HAVE MUST OWN LIST ?
I love movies and just thought we need a light thread ! :)

I love this O.T. Thread. I may not have a list of older movies I like but then again I was born in 1990...it's so weird typing that out but I do have a list of great movies that I actually bought. Like you I normally just rent a movie and I'm good afterwards. So my "old" is the 80's and 90's.

1. The Breakfast Club
2. 16 Candles
3. Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion
4. Good Will Hunting (I admit it, I still cry when they have their first big fight)
5. The Godfather (a little older :D)

The Raven (Vincent Price is awesome, fun fact it was also Jack Nicholson's first flick he played the son of the idiot wizard)
heck i'll save time...any movie with Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney in them...

Young Frankenstein (still think it's Mel Brook's finest :D)
Back To School with Rodney Dangerfield
Demolition Man (Sandra Bullock's character keeps me laughing with the screwed up sayings)
Beverly Hills Cop (1 & 2 only the 3rd sucked...)
48 Hours
Tron

& too many more that i can't think of right now lol

I'm also a ridiculous movie fanatic, which is why I have over 300 dvds... So... rather than list a couple hundred movies I love, I'll say the 5 that I can never choose between when asked what my favorite movie is:

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER or I'll go mad
The Departed
3:10 to Yuma
Black Hawk Down
Boondock Saints
Memento

Definitely a 30ish male's list there

I think I know what you mean - after being obliged to read so many supposed "classics" for school, I didn't read again for many years, and when I did, it was kids' books that I never got to read as a kid.

I own 'A Fish Called Wanda', 'Some Like it Hot','Dirty Dancing'and various stand up DVDS,oh and the story of The Ramones in 2 DVDS.
I will own a few more one of these days :)

Oh yeah!
Dirty Dancing is one Video I had to replace when I got the DVD player...
Bring it On - yes, the cheesy cheerleader movie. Love the athleticism etc of the cheerleading.
Grease
Field of Dreams
