After buying several mechanical mods, I wanted to try my hand at a home made Battery mod of my own design.

Here it is -

I used a 16mm stainless switch, and though the battery can be accessed for service or replacement, routine charging will be done via the charging port.

Inside is an 18500 EFest IMR. Came out pretty nice for a first try I think. Digging the retro/steam punk/35mm old school camera look.

SO you just stick that battery with the wires on it in the charger?

Yes, though "that battery" is a small piece of dowel. Two screws securing the wires into a piece of wood. Insert the "dummy battery" in the charger, connect to the block mod and charge, much like a USB set-up.

be careful not to short out your charge port! i like the way it looks and the charge port is a cool idea.

Two recessed male pins are enclosed in the fitting. About 4mm below flush. You'd have to try pretty hard to short it, but a dime setting in just so could be an issue I suppose. I'll avoid loose change in the shared carry pocket for now. BTW, there is a vent hole on the one and only non-shown side.

pretty nifty way to charge it. Great job. You have a very good looking little mod. I bet if you keep your eye out you could find a rubber plug or something for the charging receptacle if you think it could be an issue.

I love the little SS "kick plates" and where you have positioned them!

What a great project, real nice~

Thank you all for your support! Makes me enjoy it all the more. :)

Of course the "kick plates" had to go over the battery cut-out, but yeah, I think they look pretty sporty too. :)

If I do a v2, I may substitute SS for some or all of the aluminum, or Corian rather than oak, but this one is all wood and Al.

Good suggestion! I'll try some options, see if they both look and feel right. When I press a finger in there gripping it, I get no current flow though my skin. A plug would be for pocket safety.

Looks really great. Have you thought about recessing the metal plates in V2?

Thanks!

That's a thought, though I'd have to use a thinner battery which would reduce capacity. I own many 18500's and other 18's. 3/4" = 19mm, so the 18mm battery has just enough room in the wood cut-out going with plates.

Or could you use a wider piece of wood? It's not a big deal though because the plates look great right now.
