argh, well my DSE103's atomizer gave up the ghost short of 2 weeks of use... bugger! I thought it might have been the cart being stuborn so changed the car, dripped some liquid on the atomizer and tried puffing it for a good 10mins with no smoke coming out then gave up

apart from air coming out of the air-hole in the mouthpiece i felt no nicotine

5mins later i'm feeling terrible, headache, dizzy, sick... I guess i must have sucked a whole lot of nicotine enriched air out of the cart even though the atomizer was busted :-(

tis a few hours later and i'm feeling ok now... will know not to do that again :-(

I think a lot of us assumed we needed lots of vapor to transport lots of nicotine. I thought that until I reexamined my Nicotrol Inhaler, a product that failed me years ago. It has a little cartridge in it and contains a nicotine solution. You inhale air through the cartridge -- and you can feel the nicotine hit your throat! Invisible hit. So I've put e-liquid on the cart and am using it periodically in public places (I like its stubby, short cigar look). You did indeed OD.

Please don't take this personally JonnyMagic.... this is a thought I happened to have while reading your message about something I have also done on this board - using the term od/overdose.

Nicotine OD/Overdose.... while arguably technically correct, does not resemble the common usage of the term or the consequences generally understood by the public. Someone ingests a bit more nicotine than what they personally are accustomed to and most often will become mildly nauseous, mildly dizzy, get a bit headachy. It passes shortly and that is the end of that. It's happened to most of us smoking too many ciggies at a club or party well before we heard of ecigs and I've never in my life heard fellow smokers go on about their "nicotine overdose" of the previous evening.

Most members would be pretty frustrated and skeptical, I think, if one of the anti- activists decided to give a thunderous speech about the scourge of nicotine overdosing because of ecigs. Perhaps we could be more cautious about using easily misunderstood, overblown rhetoric in our own discussions. I'm going to try.

I agree with you jamie, we don't want to end up fuelling the fires of our own destruction.

What I will say though is that with e-misting (I like this new term) the effects of a larger than we are used intake of nicotine seems to be more noticable. I attribute this to inhaling only nicotine and not all the other crap that comes with tobacco smoke. In particular I'm refering to the levels of CO (carbon monoxide) & CO2 (carbon dioxide) that is inhaled along with the myriad of other noxious garbage. I feel that junk tends to reduce or depress, supress our perception of the stimulant effect of nicotine, I've posted this sentiment a couple of times previously, and the more I think about it, the more I think it is the case.

I'm not willing to go back to burning the evil weed as a comparison though !

don't get me wrong, sorry if this was taken the wrong way or anything... but as you say it's technically correct and I was just posting my experiences

I don't see this as a "pro e-cig" board, I see it as a board where people come together and share information regarding the act of e-smoking and that, in my mind would incorporate the experiences and, ultimately consequences of what we are all doing right now.

The post wasn't exactly worded well and, looking at it again it reads as if there's no point in me posting it at all - unfortunatly this is due to me coming off a night shift and writing on a spur of the moment. The post was more of a question, I wasn't aware that puffing on my e-cig without any vapor being produced would incur nicotine absorbtion

Sorry to hear about your atomizer.

I'm going to try my e-cigar without a battery just to see if I get anything from it. I'm kinda curious now.

But yep, sounds like an overdose to me.

TB you've tried it all... E-Liquid on a band-aid overnight is the funniest one though. ha! :D

I have to agree with you Kit. I don't think we need to be over-analyzing this.

Dude, you had a little O.D. That's what happened and don't worry about what to call it or you'll spend most of your time apologizing and not getting helpful feedback. I hate accidently over-nicking myself and not knowing what I did until I'm flat on my ....

And I'm sorry about your atomizer giving up...but I'm glad you posted this. It is a reminder that if we're not getting vapor but still suckin' the dawg outta the atomizer, we're still getting a hit...and we need to put the thing down for a little bit. Wait for another e-cig to charge up. :thumb:

Yes I understood that, it's very good information. A great title for the thread would be something like "No Vapor but still getting Nicotine" - then other people with the same question or experience would be able to find it. :)

I explicitly did not criticize Jonny, did not demand anything of him or his post, and certainly did not request an apology. I'm stating that clearly here so that notion does not continue to be blown up in the thread. Jonny, I was fine with your post and it simply got me to thinking about something, as I wrote in my post.

As with the thread I mistakenly derailed about pro-tobacco vs. the antis, I should have started a separate thread about the other topic.
