Odysseus question from a newbie

New to me Odysseus here. Made a 2.4ohm coil, works great but do have a question. Do I open up the mouthpiece a couple turns when I want to vape or is that just to feed the wick and then you close it back up again? It vapes equally well open or closed as far as I can tell. Also, when closed is this basically leak free for carrying around?

I open mine enough till im getting consistent hits and i leave it there. Should not leak open or closed.
