I have a couple waiting for me at Rainbow Bridge. I hope this helps, David...

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm so sorry to hear this. It's got to be one of the hardest things. I'm sure we don't have much more time with our Manny. We went thru this with my daughters cat last year. It will get better. Some other furball may jump into your life and take away the pain. I still think about some of our pets, but it doesn't hurt anymore. They are all good stories about them.

some of you know most of you don't. we had to take thumper to the vet at 1pm today to send her off to chase frisbees and rabbits in heaven today.
Thumper was a female chow mix. kindest most gentle dog I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. never once snapped or growled at the baby, never did anything but defend our family from coyotes, bobcats and the like.
Thumper was Pamela's baby and she is gone. No more pain, no more aches just serenity.
When you see pamela drop her a hello or a kind word. She is hurting, as we all are in our family...

So sorry..thats a sad thing to go through ...many do not know that its better some times that they are put to rest rather than the suffering. I feel for you Mau...Hi Pam...Hugs to you....

I feel your pain. I have many scars on my heart, and many waiting for me at The Bridge. There's a wonderful website - Pet Loss Grief Support, The Rainbow Bridge Poem, Monday Candle Ceremony. Every Monday night at 10 pm (eastern) they have a candlelight service for pets who have passed, and those with special needs. You can add your pet's name or leave a tribute to the list ahead of time, and then you can light a candle and join the ceremony Monday night. They offer all kinds of support besides the candlelight service.

My favorite quote from Irving Townsend: "We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

thanks folks. Pamela and I drop into this thread every now and then for inspiration but can only read a few at a time and then leave. we do appreciate the generosity of love everyone else has for their past and present companions. The pain is still strong so we will only come in here every now and then. late at night I still hear the tick tick tick of her nails on the tile floor. funny that......
