    Hi hello and good morning.

Dang hitt, I always figured states that had sales taxes hit ya up at the time of purchase.
This personal property tax bill you speak of, is that for purchases made during the year or is it somethin that is assessed each year.

I mean, are you taxed on boats and cars and such every year or just once for the initial purchase?

Hovering at freezing, mebbe ice, mebbe not. Still cranky and no cookies left.

OTD, the personal property tax is a set percentage that is charged each year on the value of cars, boats, and such. Like I said before, most of it goes to the schools but a little goes to the state and stuff. I did pay sales tax when we bought the car but PPT is separate.

We pay school taxes and property taxes every year based on a percentage of the value of your house. Sales tax at time of purchase, and vehicles have to be registered every 2 years. No matter where you live, they tax ya. :)

We had 20 degrees this morning and snow yesterday.

Hope y'all are staying warm and away from the tax man.

I had a really terrible end to my work day. I was on my way home but still downtown. There used to be a traffic light at this one intersection but now the north traffic has a stop sign and the west street has none. Both are one way streets. Anyway I was stopped waiting to go and a lady crossed in front of me. I waited and then looked to the right for traffic and started to go. I heard someone yelling and looked to my left and there was a guy yelling and making rude gestures. I took off. After I did I realized that he must have been crossing when I started to go at first and was trying to get my attention. After I realized what happened I felt awful. I could have hurt him. That's gonna bother me for a while.

I wasn't looking to the left for maybe 20-30 seconds if that and boom there he was. I think I went ahead and took off because he startled me. It's not unheard of to run into a crazy person here and there downtown. I looked in my mirror as I drove away and he was swearing and flailing his arms. He was mad and I don't blame him. I wish now that I hadn't drove off and rolled down my window to apologize. I need a time machine. You can bet your .... that I'll always look twice before taking off from an intersection.

    Good morning, y'all.

how scary, Hitt. You didn't hit the guy, that's what counts the most, and you'll be even more careful in the future. I agree that the person had some responsibility to be aware of the traffic. Drivers in B'ham are crazy, so even in crosswalks, i always make sure that the driver can see me or the car can't reach me. Actually, on campus it can be safer to jaywalk than cross in the cross walks.

Heading home today. It's been a good trip, but i'll be glad to see the dogs.

    Stay warm y'all
