Carabou (a.k.a. reindeer) is VERY tasty! :)[/quote]

I grew up in Sweden and I can back you up on reindeer! It's delicious! So is moose. I ate all those things like pickled pigs feet, stewed kidneys, smoked eel, tongue etc. Not sure I would touch any of it today. Frog legs, yes, tastes like chicken.

The weirdest was probably whale steaks. Looks like a good lean steak but tastes like fish. Served with horseradish butter. To kill the taste no doubt. :p Wouldn't eat it today if you paid me. :( There's something in Sweden called "sur strömming", translation "sour herring/smelts". They can it and let it ferment in the cans. When those cans are opened you can smell it for blocks, and they love it! They have sur strömming parties and everyone eats the darn stuff and get loaded. Probably if you drink enough "snaps" you'll eat anything. Not me!

I've had Durian. Fabulous.......That is the only word that comes to mind. For those wanting to try it, You can usually get it from your local Asian Market. It stinks to high heaven, but the taste is to die for!!!!

I've actually been mulling over the thought of making a Durian flavor. If we can get the taste without the smell, that is. You know what the hell! I'm going to at least try getting a sample. :D I'm not saying we'll necessarily carry it, but I can at least explore the idea!

Balut, OTOH, is WAAAAY out. For Nobacco juice, that is. If given the chance, *slurp* I'll eat it up! :D

All in China. Camel, pigeon, snake, jellyfish, cuttlefish, octopus too many others to remember. After a while I stopped asking. If I like it, I keep eating it, if I don't, I stop. My peace of mind increased after that decision.

Damn, sounds like the menu at the place I ate my first Monday here. I keep meaning to get around to going back there. ;)

Oh, I forgot to add lutefisk to the list, for the uninitiated some tips on how to prepare. To make lutefisk, catch yourself a cod. Take out the bones, skin it, salt it, and hang it out to dry for several weeks until it hardens and smells like a dumpster. Then, bring it inside and soak it in lye for several days.

I've tried it, but hell, I'm Norwegian and even I can't stomach it. It's pretty horrendous. It's like fish jello.

During one of my first trips to China, 2001 or so, they were still serving cats and dogs at some restaurants. One place I went to had a cage of live animals (next to the ubiquitous fish tanks). There were cats, and a bunch of other animals I didn't recognize. One of them looked like some kind of badger. The menu had shredded dog and cat soup. Our escorts fortunately, ordered neither for us. We did have the ever popular chicken feet and goose neck though. I really hate that practice they have of introducing you to your meal before you have it (I think it's to prove it's fresh or something). I could live without that.

Obviously you didn't look up Rocky Mountain oysters... I will spare you the picture of those! lol

Oh yes I did google RMOs as well. However, my mind was able to go into a fugue state and allow me to see it as something more innocuous. And maybe Fear Factor desensitized me? But, there is no amount of denial that can convince you that balut is anything other than what it is... THE grossest I've ever heard of anyone ingesting! LOL. My apologies to those who like it. ;)

That is traditional Christmas fare, lutfisk. Norwegians spell it "lutefisk". They eat it too. :D Lut=lye Fisk=Fish The lye thing is merely a way to dry and preserve the fish. You have to soak it to remove the lye before cooking. If you don't, you'll be very sorry! :D Served with a bechamel sauce and a dusting of ground allspice. I actually had some this summer that they had frozen and saved for me. Hadn't had it since 1965. :D It was good, but I liked a whole lot more when I was a kid. :p I'd rather eat turkey, yeah! :D

That happens if all the lye is not removed prior to cooking so whomever prepared that meal for you screwed up... oops! :D I know, because my first and only attempt ended up like that and I had to throw it out. Needless to say I never cooked it again. When prepared correctly it's a firm and very mild tasting cod. Tastes very good actually.

I might have to give it a proper try at some point then.

It has to be Balut for me, when I was in the Philippines. Had monkey, dog, and pigeon. But Balut was defiantly the weirdest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhilippinesThought it was a hard boiled egg, till it crunched.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balut_(egg)

I really could have done without that visual... seriously.

BTW, any time anyone mentions lutefisk I can't help but think of that episode of King of the Hill where their new female minister made it for them.
