Geez up to 2k F ... Not such a good idea to torch then.

Well just because you torch it doesn't mean you are going to heat the wire to that temperature ... only that you could. But that said, nickel forms oxides at over 700 degrees which are somewhat undesirable. I would recommend not torching, but I also know people who do torch.

Just FYI.... noticed some 40's available now on Evolv's web site... guess they are catching up on orders and putting them up now on their site...

That dna30 deal for $69 would have been a great deal 3 months ago, but as fast as the technology is changing, not so much now. No bucking, no TP, no removable battery. For $30 more you can get a legit dna40 in a box. The only things holding back the dna40 are Evolvs problems with the displays and the difficulty (for the average user) to build a nickel coil. With the premise of TP being a safer bet, and manufacturers coming out with TP coils, I would bet in a year that the most popular vv devices will have some form of TP. It's too bad that Evolv has all these problems. It's now opened the door for other companies to get a better product out. Great for us the consumer, not so much for Evolv.

I respectfully disagree. $69 for a genuine DNA30 device is still a great deal now. Not everyone wants to be on the bleeding edge of technology. Step down is only necessary for people using pre-built coils or carts. The cheapest TP device is $150 (also from VS). Where are you seeing a DNA40 mod for $100???

Evolv definitely needs to figure out these screen glitches fast. New TP devices are starting to come out and consumers won't tolerate these glitches for much longer. Personally, the only other option I would consider is the Yihi SX350j but I think it's overpriced. And I'd rather have a US made product.

Just rolled the dice on the Smok Gimlet. If it's decent I'll be happy. Replaceable coils are only 16 bucks a 5 pack.

Hcigar makes one now. I've seen group buys as low as 86 bucks.

Yeah I dunno, tried twice but I can not buy a DNA with jumbled screens and janky batmeters.
Hope HCig sells a ton of em.

Gave a buddy a couple boards so he could try his hand at building a couple mods.... he hasn't seen a jumbled screen nor a janky batmeter either... he has an electronics background...and limited finances...

So with all the recent success stories with contact coils I decided to try them again since I got one of those Coil Master coil winders (which work great by the way). I made 2 coils...one for ErlK and one on a dripper. Both were 11-12 wraps of 28g tempered , 3mm diameter. Initially ohmed out between .13-.15. But after refining then both went down to between .07-.09.

Is this extreme resistance drop normal with contact coils? They are working fine...actually more than fine, they are working great at about a temp of 440. In general I seem to notice that the tempered nickel seems to refine to a lower resistance than the annealed nickel even with spaced coils but this seems extreme?

Thoughts?
