I have no experience with tempered nickel, but does it stay tempered after firing?

Regardless, with that in mind, that refinement drop does seem on the high side. I can't say whether it has to do with contact coils, personally I've had no problem using contact coils, spaced coils, or even partially contact, partially spaced coils since day one. I usually do not see that much refinement drop on any of them, but if the thing works great then use it!

Resist the urge to see issues that don't really exist.

So with all the recent success stories with contact coils I decided to try them again since I got one of those Coil Master coil winders (which work great by the way). I made 2 coils...one for ErlK and one on a dripper. Both were 11-12 wraps of 28g tempered , 3mm diameter. Initially ohmed out between .13-.15. But after refining then both went down to between .07-.09.

Is this extreme resistance drop normal with contact coils? They are working fine...actually more than fine, they are working great at about a temp of 440. In general I seem to notice that the tempered nickel seems to refine to a lower resistance than the annealed nickel even with spaced coils but this seems extreme?

Thoughts?

HI

.13 / .15 seems quite normal with a good connection (mine came out at .14 using the same tempered wire). The lower reading of .07 /.09 after "refining" (I assume pinching the coil some more) comes probably from some wraps touching. If it vapes fine, just leave it. You can't really check unless you dry fire it and that would anneal the nickel (even at controlled 600F where it just gets dark red but is enough to soften the wire bit). Like I said, I wouldn't mess with it if it works fine. :)

Regards
Tony

Within the week I posted about a Kuro Coiler wrapped coil that began at ~0.37 then refined to ~0.14, landing on 0.11, where it remains to this day. Yes, I was shocked at the huge drop in resistance. (Search on my handle and "Magma")

On Friday, I noticed I had a "practice coil" sitting on my table. Put it in an Erl Prince where it measure 0.14 on my ohm reader and exactly the same on the rDNA. It now hovers between 0.12-0.13. These two scenarios lead me to the 'obvious conclusion": something was wrong with the coil with the huge resistance drop...though I cannot say what that was.

(a) The coil sitting on my table was most likely a 30 g tempered wire but could have been annealed 28 g.
(b) The coil on my table was very precisely wound which is why I saved it in the first place. For its "beauty". :D
(c) More practice and careful observation is needed to come to a final conclusion...

Nevertheless, contact coils using a coiler seems to work better than hand-wrapped contact coils. MTF!

Yes...interesting because I too had previously tried contact coils in the past and I don't remember the huge resistance drop. And the only difference that I can think of if 1) using the new coiling jig and 2) tempered vs annealed...neither which should make a difference?

Ah...such are the joys of nickel. But since they're working for now I'll try not to fret too much about it and I'll try to add a few wraps to my next contact coils or use 30g...or both.

And yes...those coilers make some perfect contact coils! :)

From thre DNA 25 data sheet
"For manufacturers outside the United States, the DNA 25 is available as a special order with
Celsius units instead of Fahrenheit. Minimum quantities apply. Contact Evolv for details."

But their's says both on the Web site (Stealthvapes)

Stealthvape's web site add is incorrect....will be corrected (I hope)....

I contacted a friend that has a dna 25, he should give me an answer soon.

Got the answer

It has both Celsius Mode and F mode.

Regards
Tony

Edit: actually no. Got another message. Duhhhh. This is kinda frustrating when D. E. sais it has both modes but the board in front of him doesn't... :/

DNA25's have no Celsius and Fahrenheit mode.... just Fahrenheit ......

This was verified before posting.....by Evolv....

I'm not sure I understand what they going for with the 25. Is it cheaper than the 40?

It appears to cost them less, given the retail/consumer cost is less. I'm certain they have their own well determined reason for it other than only scooping up the sub-26W crowd.

I'm betting it has something to do with a synergy in relation to another project, but I don't even care why, lol. Not that I wouldn't like to know, it just doesn't really affect me (that I know of).

I would like to see a device with configurable ramp up profiles etc... maybe bluetooth interaction... but I figure they are a little busy right now... I'll bug them in a month or so.

Heck..... why not go ahead and bug them now....with their new "Contact" form there is a drop down selection for "Suggestions".... Help Desk - Submit a ticket

Typically when they release something new they are working on another thing or two already. Maybe your thoughts/ideas could be incorporated into what they are already working on... who knows... I have no clue other than they are working on some things....they keep that close to their chest...understandably....:)

All you guys/gals that use tapatalk or something similar..... Is tapatalk the best or is there something else as good or better?... just wondering....
